  • This study, regarding curved channel, was performed to compare and analyze hydraulic characteristics and the speed of water and water level for left bank and right bank through hydraulic model experiments and numerical analysis. Real channels that had characteristics of curved channel were selected as objectives. In order to easily operate one and two dimensional numerical analysis and comparison for total 2.4Km model channel, measuring point was set up as 200m. HEC-RAS model was applied as one dimensional numerical analysis program and SMS model was used as two dimensional numerical analysis program. In respect of speed of water, the average speed of water for right bank recorded 8.33m/s in a model experiment and 3.08m/s, 8.57m/s were average speed of water for right bank in one dimensional and two dimensional numerical analysis. The average speed of water of two dimensional numerical analysis was quite similar to that of model experiments. Also, as for water level, maximum observational errors between one and two dimensional numerical analysis for right and left bank of model experiments were 0.66m, 0.84m and 0.28m, 0.48m for each. It was found that two dimensional numerical analysis had a similar result to hydraulic model experiments. Accordingly, from the result of this study, two dimensional numerical analysis should be used rather than one dimensional numerical analysis, when numerical analysis for curved channel is conducted.

  • When the existing polder levee was constructed, the river's numerical analysis decided the bank raise by applying the planned flood stage or by using the result from the sectional 1st dimensional numerical analysis. But, it was presented that there is a limitation in the 1st dimensional value analysis when the structure like the polder levee obstructs the special shaped running water flow. Therefore, in order to verify the numerical value applicability when the polder levee is constructed, this report compared each other through the 1st and 2nd dimensional numerical analysis and the mathematical principle model laboratory. In case of the polder levee construction through the numerical analysis and the mathematical principle model laboratory, it was decided that there was no big problem in the 1st dimensional numerical analysis applied design, considering the uncertainty of mathematical principle analysis though the first dimensional numerical analysis was calculated a little bigger than the second. But, after construction, it was found that the water level deviation of the 1st, 2nd occurred biggest at the place where the flow was divided into two. Also, as a result of comparing the 1st, 2nd dimensional numerical analysis with the mathematical principle model laboratory, it was confirmed that the 1st numerical analysis applied design decreased the modal safety largely, as the left side water level was calculated smaller more than 0.5m in case of the 1st dimensional numerical analysis.

  • In this research, we made a one and two-dimensional analysis of numerical data collected from the bend curvature of a bended river section. According to the result from the numerical analysis, the inflow & output angle caused a water level deviation which increased with an increase of the flood discharge. From the water level deviation of our two-dimensional numerical model, we obtained the maximum slope of 6,67% when the inflow and output angle was 105 degrees and the flood discharge was 500 CMS. As for the right side, the differences with the one-dimensional numerical model were reduced when the angle was more than $90^{\circ}$. As for the left side the differences were reduced when the angle was more than $105^{\circ}$. For a river with more than 90 degrees bend curvature, a hydraulic experiment would be more appropriate than a numerical analysis.

  • Chloride ion diffusion at the corner of rectangular-shaped concrete structures is presented. At the corner of rectangular-shaped concrete, chloride ion diffusion is in two-dimensional process. Chloride ions accumulate from two orthogonal directions, so that corrosion-free life of concrete structures is significantly reduced. A numerical procedure based on finite element method is used to solve the two-dimensional diffusion process. Orthotropic property of diffusion coefficient of concrete is considered and chloride ion profile obtained from numerical analysis is used to produce transformed diffusion coefficient. Comparisons of experimental data are also carried out to show the reliability of proposed numerical analysis. As a result of two-dimensional chloride diffusion, corrosion-free life of concrete structure for railway is estimated using probability of corrosion initiation. In addition, monographs that produces transformed diffusion coefficient and corrosion-free life of concrete structure are made for maintenance purpose.

  • Numerical Analysis for exchanging seawater experiment is carried out in Do-Jang fish port. The change of tidal velocity and water level is derived by the two-dimensional nonlinear shallow-water numerical model. To calculate exchange rate of seawater with the change of tidal velocity and water level, a two-dimensional numerical model is employed which governing equations are Fokker-Plank equations. The calculated exchange rates of each time are described in tables and figures.

  • For the analysis of transient two-phase flows in nuclear reactor components, a three-dimensional thermal hydraulics code, named CUPID, has been developed. The CUPID code adopts a two-fluid, three-field model for two-phase flows, and the governing equations were solved over unstructured grids, which are very useful for the analysis of flows in complicated geometries. To obtain numerical solutions, the semi-implicit numerical method for the REALP5 code was modified for an application to unstructured grids, and it has been further improved for enhanced accuracy and fast running. For the verification of the CUPID code, a set of conceptual problems and experiments were simulated. This paper presents the flow model, the numerical solution method, and the results of the preliminary assessment.

  • When exact analytical solutions to certain type of heat conduction problems are quite cumbersome or not obtainable, it is important to introduce approximate analytical methods which are simple and useful compared with numerical methods. In this study, therefore, the Heat Balance Integral Method is applied to analysis of steady-state conduction in a straight fin of trapezoidal profile, and the two-dimensional temperature distribution in the fin and the approximate fin efficiency are obtained. Results are compared with those by the one- dimensional analysis and two-dimensional numerical analysis for a wide range of Biot numbers. It is shown that the two-dimensional temperature distribution obtained by the integral method is in good agreement with that by the finite element method at Biot numbers for which the result by the one-dimensional analysis is unreliable.

  • A two-dimensional warranty policy, two types of warranty criteria, such as the age and mileage of an automobile, are employed simultaneously to determine the eligibility of a warranty claim. We deal with the analysis of a variety of combined two-dimensional free replacement warranty(FRW) and pro-rata replacement warranty(PRW). In this paper we also propose the analysis of policies with item failures modelled using the one-dimensional and two-dimensional approach, respectively. We obtain expressions for the expected warranty costs and illustrate through numerical examples.

  • Most of the previous works on numerical analysis of galloping of transmission lines are generally based on the quasisteady theory. However, some wind tunnel tests of the rectangular section or hangers of suspension bridges have shown that the galloping phenomenon has a strong unsteady characteristic and the test results are quite different from the quasi-steady calculation results. Therefore, it is necessary to check the applicability of the quasi-static theory in galloping analysis of the ice-covered transmission line. Although some limited unsteady simulation researches have been conducted on the variation of parameters such as aerodynamic damping, aerodynamic coefficients with wind speed or wind attack angle, there is a need to investigate the numerical simulation of unsteady galloping of two-dimensional iced transmission line with comparison to wind tunnel test results. In this paper, it is proposed to conduct a two dimensional (2-D) unsteady numerical analysis of ice-covered transmission line galloping. First, wind tunnel tests of a typical crescent-shapes iced conductor are conducted firstly to check the subsequent quasisteady and unsteady numerical analysis results. Then, a numerical simulation model consistent with the aeroelastic model in the wind tunnel test is established. The weak coupling methodology is used to consider the fluid-structure interaction in investigating a two-dimension numerical simulation of unsteady galloping of the iced conductor. First, the flow field is simulated to obtain the pressure and velocity distribution of the flow field. The fluid action on the iced conduct at the coupling interface is treated as an external load to the conductor. Then, the movement of the conduct is analyzed separately. The software ANSYS FLUENT is employed and redeveloped to numerically analyze the model responses based on fluid-structure interaction theory. The numerical simulation results of unsteady galloping of the iced conduct are compared with the measured responses of wind tunnel tests and the numerical results by the conventional quasi-steady theory, respectively.

  • The screen doors installed in the station of subway are subject to the train-wind pressure caused by the operation of trains. The train-wind pressure has to be correctly estimated for the design of safe structure of screen doors. As three-dimensional numerical flow analysis technology has been significantly developed, the analysis on the train-wind pressure with diverse variables such as train specifications, train speed, tunnel and station configurations, and blockage ratio can be effectively carried out with three-dimensional numerical method. In this study, computational analysis of train-induced wind in a subway tunnel employing the screen doors are carried out by using the three-dimensional numerical method with the model of the moving boundary for the run of trains. While the numerical analysis of train-wind pressure was applied on the one island-type station in the Seoul Subway Line 2, maximum pressure of 494 Pa was estimated on the screen door when two trains pass each other at the speed of 80km/h in the platform.
