중심거리측정법은 서로 붙어있는 두 입자 중심점간의 거리를 측정하여 입자의 지름을 구하는 방법이다. 표면장력에 의해 배열이 형성된 시편 입자들의 초점군을 투과식 광학현미경에 평행 레이저광을 입사시켜 얻어내고 CCD 카메라로 영상을 받아 전산 분석하였다. Global lab image라는 영상처리 프로그램으로 초점들의 중심점을 찾고 붙어있는 입자들의 중심점간 거리를 화소(CCD 카메라의 pixel)단위로 계산하였으며, 화소의 좌표는 레이저 간섭계로 변위를 읽는 이송대를 이용하여 교정하였다. 기존의 측정방법을 개선하여 빠른 시간에 간편하게 측정하면서도 표준입자의 배율고정에 충분한 불확도를 얻을 수 있었다. 본 실험에는 NIST 인증물질인 3$\mu\textrm{m}$와 10$\mu\textrm{m}$ 폴리스티렌구(NIST SRM 1962, 1960)를 측정하였으며, 1%이하의 불확도(신뢰도 99% 수준)로써 NIST 결과와비교하였다.

In this paper, the thick-walled laminated, orthotropic as well as bimaterial, composite hollow spheres under impact pressure are analyzed in detail by using the semi-discrete finite element method with the Houbolt time-integration scheme which results in unconditionally stable transient numerical results. Numerical results are obtained by using the self-constructed spherically symmetric (one-dimensional) and axially symmetric (two-dimensional) finite element programs, and compared with the previous solutions by other researchers, being shown some of which are incorrect. The finite element package Nastran is also adopted for numerical comparison.

강체구형입자에 대한 Carnahan-Starling식과 인력 포텐셜을 갖는 격자 모델을 이용하여 새로운 2-매개변수 상태식을 유도하였다. 이 식을 이용하여 압축인자를 계산하고 Nelson-Obert 압축인자도표와 비교하여 보았다. 그 결과 이 식은 Redlich-Kwong식과 평균적으로 비슷한 정도로 실험적인 압축인자도표와 일치한다는 것을 알 수 있다. 그런데 새 상태식에서 나타나는 매개변수와 항들은 Redlich-Kwong equation의 경우보다 분명한 물리적 의미를 갖고 있다.

In the protein database search, 3D structural shape comparison for protein screening plays a important role. Protein databases have big size and have been grown rapidly. Exhaustive search methods cannot provide a satisfactory performance. As protein is composed of a set of spheres, the similarity calculation of two set of spheres is very expensive. Thus, a reasonable filtering method could be an answer for the speedup of protein screening. In this paper, we suggest a speedup method for protein screening with atom number and bounding sphere. We also show some experimental results for the validity of our method.

We provide another proof that the signed count of the real J-holomorphic spheres (or J- holomorphic discs) passing through a generic real configuration of k points is independent of the choice of the real configuration and the choice of J, if the dimension of the Lagrangian submanifold L (fixed point set of involution) is two or three, and also if we assume L is orient able and relatively spin. We also assume that M is strongly semi-positive. This theorem was first proved by Welschinger in a more general setting, and we provide more natural approach using the signed degree of an evaluation map.

Radiography, ultrasonography with hydrogram, and contrast studies using radiopaque markers were applied to evaluate alimentary lymphoma in two cats. The hydrogram facilitated the differentiation of pseudo-thickening from true wall thickening, and enabled an evaluation of wall layering and lymph nodes. In case 1, mechanical obstruction of the duodenum was confirmed with barium-impregnated polyethylene spheres (BIPS), a radiopaque marker; however, results obtained in case 2 were not as definitive. We expect that hydrograms and BIPS can be used as valuable alternative methods to evaluate the gastrointestinal (GI) tract although further studies in cases involving GI tumors are needed.

This paper describes a study of the collision of hard steel spheres against aluminium thin circular plates at speeds up to 140 m/s. The tests were monitored by a high speed camera and a chronoscope, which allowed the determination of the ballistic limit and the plate deformation pattern. Quasi-static material parameters were obtained from tests on a universal testing machine and dynamic mechanical characterization of two aluminium alloys were conducted in a split Hopkinson pressure bar. Using a damage model, the perforation of the plates was simulated by finite element analysis. Axisymmetric, shell and solid elements were employed with various parameters of the numerical analysis being thoroughly discussed, in special, the dynamic model parameters. A good agreement between experiments and the numerical analysis was obtained.

Film boiling is the heat transfer mechanism that can occurs when large temperature differences exist between a cold liquid and hot material. In the nuclear reactor safety analysis, film boiling has become an important issue in recent years. During severe accident, hot molten corium fall into relatively cool water, and fragment into spheres or sphere-like particles. If the steam explosion is triggered, the thermal energy of corium is converted into the mechanical energy that can threaten the integrity of reactor vessel or reactor cavity. One of the important concerns in the heat transfer analysis during pre-mixing stage is the film boiling heat transfer between the corium and water/steam two-phase flow. Until now, considerable works on film boiling heat been performed. However, there is no available correlation adequate for severe accident analysis. In this study, boiling heat transfer correlations have been developed, and their applicable ranges heat been enlarged and their prediction accuracy has been enhanced.
