This study presents a novel method for reducing the switching losses of an asymmetric half-bridge converter for a three-phase, 12/8 switched reluctance motor operated in low speed. In particular, this study aims to reduce the switching-off losses of chopping switches in the converter when operated in the current regulated mode (chopping mode). The proposed method uses the mixed parallel operation of IGBT (chopping switch) and MOSFET (auxiliary switch). MOSFET is precisely controlled to momentarily conduct prior to the turn-off interval of the IGBT. Consequently, the voltage across the switches is clamped to approximately zero, substantially decreasing the turn-off switching losses. The analytical expressions of power losses are extensively elaborated. Compared with the conventional asymmetric half-bridge converter, the modified converter can effectively minimize the switching losses. Therefore, the efficiency of the converter is eventually improved. Computer simulation and experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
This paper presents a novel single-stage unity power factor converter which features the reduced switching losses by zero-voltage switching and zero-current switching (ZVZCS). Hence the turn-on and turn-off losses of switches are sufficiently reduced. And the reduced conduction losses are achieved by the elimination of one leg of front-end rectifier. And low on-resistance MOSFETs (Synchronous Rectifier) are used in the rectifier at the secondary side of high frequency transformer instead of diodes. Theoretical analysis simulated results of a AC to DC 150W(5V, 30A) converter are presented.

To achieve high efficiency in high power and high frequency applications, reduction of switching losses and noise is very important. In this paper, an improved zero voltage switching forward dc/dc converter is proposed. The proposed converter is constructed by using energy recovery snubbers in parallel with the main switches and output diodes of the conventional forward dc/dc converter. Due to the use of the energy recovery snubbers in the primary and secondary side, the proposed converter achieves zero-voltage-switching turn-off without switching losses for switching devices and output rectification diodes. The complete operating principles and experimental results will be presented.

A basic structure of 2500V-4500V reverse-conducting GCT (RC-GCT) is given in this paper. The punch-through type (PT) is adopted for narrow N-base with high resistivity so that the fast turn-off and low on-state voltage can be achieved. The photo mask design was made upon the both turn-off performance and solution of separation between GCT and integrated freewheeling diode (FWD) part. The turn-on and turn-off characteristics for reserve-conducting gate commutated thyristors (RC-GCTs) were investigated by ISE simulation. Additionally, the local carrier lifetime control by proton irradiation was adopted so as not only to obtain the reduction of turn-off losses of GCT but also to reach a soft reverse recovering characteristics of FWD
To address the problem of circulating current loss in the traditional zero-current switching (ZCS) full-bridge (FB) DC/DC converter, a ZCS FB DC/DC converter topology and modulation strategy is proposed in this paper. The strategy can achieve ZCS turn on and zero-voltage and zero-current switching (ZVZCS) turn off for the primary switches and realize ZVZCS turn on and zero-voltage switching (ZVS) turn off for the auxiliary switches. Moreover, its resonant circuit power is small. Compared with the traditional phase shift full-bridge converter, the new converter decreases circulating current loss and does not increase the current stress of the primary switches and the voltage stress of the rectifier diodes. The diodes turn off naturally when the current decreases to zero. Thus, neither reverse recovery current nor loss on diodes occurs. In this paper, we analyzed the operating principle, steady-state characteristics and soft-switching conditions and range of the converter in detail. A 740 V/1 kW, 100 kHz experimental prototype was established, verifying the effectiveness of the converter through experimental results.
A ZCT(Zero Current Transition) PWM(Pulse-Width-Modulation) boost converter using parallel MOSFET switch is proposed in this paper. The IGBT(main switch) of the proposed converter is always turned on with zero current switching and turned off with zero current/zero voltage switching. The MOSFET(auxiliary switch) is also operates with soft switching condition. In addtion to, the proposed converter eliminates the reverse recovery current of the freewheeling diode by adding the resonant inductor, Lr, in series with the main switch. Therefore, the turn on/turn off switching losses of switches are minimized and the conduction losses by using IGBT switch are reduced. In addition to, using parallel MOSFET switch overcomes the switching frequency limitation occurred by current tail. As mentioned above, the characteristics are verified through experimental results.

In this paper, we tried different two approach to improve the performance of the IGBT. The first approach is that adding N+ region beside P-base in the conventional IGBT. It can make the conventional IGBT to get faster turn-off time and lower conduction loss. The second approach is that adding P+ region on right side under gate to improve latching current of conventional IGBT. The device simulation results show improved on-state, latch-up and switching characteristics in each structure. The first one was presented lower voltage drop(3.08V) and faster turn-off time(3.4us) than that of conventional one(3.66V/3.65us). Also, second structure has higher latching current(369A/?? ) that of conventional structure. Finally, we present a novel IGBT combined the first approach with second one for improved trade-off characteristic between conduction and turn-off losses. The proposed device has better performance than conventional IGBT.
This paper proposes a novel Auxiliary Resonant Commutated Pole Inverter (ARCPI) topology. The conventional ARCPIs make the hard switching at turn-off likewise the conventional PWM inverters. Therefore, turn-off switching losses may be so serious and can be so much considerable in high power level. The proposed ARCPI can solve this problem with high frequency transformers, switches, and capacitors. All the switches in the expanded auxiliary circuit achieves the soft switching and operates only during the commutating intervals. The characteristics and the analysis for each operation mode are described in detail and the validity is verified by the simulations and the experimental results.

This paper describes a control method of turn-on/off angles to improve the efficiency of the switched reluctance generator(SRG) with a power closed-loop control system, and the inner-loop of the system is current hysteresis control. The SRG control system is constituted by the PI power controller and the two-level current hysteresis controller. By measuring and analyzing the system losses of different reference powers, speeds and turn-on/off angles, selection strategy of optimal turn-on/off angles is discussed. The proposed method is simple, reliable, and easy to achieve.

In this paper, the resonant inverter of SEPP-LCC type is proposed and described the operating principle. As adding t two capacitors in the switching devices in parallel. the proposed inverter can reduce switching losses. noise and voltage s stress at Turn-on and Turn-off. The analysis of the proposed circuit are described by using the normalized parameters. The data of design are got by the characteristic values and an example of the design's method is proposed. In addition. t the justification of theoretical analysis is verified by comparing to the experimental waveforms.
