  • The Trans-Central Asian Railway consists of the Trans-Caspian Railroad, the Kazalinsk Route, the Turk-Sib, and the Trans-Kazakhstan Trunk Line. Currently, one-fifth of the residents in Central Asia are living around these railroads on which 70% of the economic activities in the region depends. The construction of the railroads in Central Asia was motivated by the Russian Empire's competition 'with its maritime rival, the United Kingdom, over the Eurasian heartland in a geostrategic sense. Using the railroads, the Russian Empire aspired to connect its central industrial regions in European Russia with the remote frontier areas in the Central Asian republics and to increase economic specialization of the region. After the breakdown of the USSR, however, the rail network, which had well been linked among the regions in the former Soviet nations, has been in a deteriorated linkage with their non-Soviet neighboring nations. Despite a lot of problems to be solved, the Trans-Central Asian rail network is expected to play a crucial role as a land bridge between East Asia and Europe as well as between Russia/the Baltic sea and the Indian Ocean/the Persian Gulf in the long-term.

  • Herein, we describe the case of a 67-year-old female patient who presented with cough and haemoptysis. Chest computed tomography revealed destruction of the left lower lobe and multiple fungus balls in a bronchiectatic cavity. A left lower lobectomy was performed via thoracotomy. Histopathological examination of the lung showed a concomitant aspergilloma and multiple tumourlets in the large bronchiectatic cavity. Pulmonary intracavitary aspergilloma and concomitant tumourlets are quite rare. Our report presents this interesting case that manifested with haemoptysis.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of a company's response strategies (response type, communication style, and response sincerity) on customer's brand attitude and purchase intentions. A fictional Facebook fan page containing 6 separate scenarios was developed based on actual customer reviews and company responses observed on Facebook restaurant fan pages. Participants were recruited from Amazon's Mechanical Turk (MTurk). A total of 202 responses were obtained; 185 responses were analyzed after deleting insufficient responses. The results of MANOVA found that an accommodative response leads customers to have a more favorable attitude towards a brand and have stronger purchasing intentions. In addition, customers who perceive the company's response to a negative review as sincere are more likely to have a positive brand attitude and purchasing intentions, as compared to those who perceive it as either insincere or neutral.

  • The two-shot SLS method has recently been successfully implemented in volume manufacturing of advanced LTPS-based LCDs. In this presentation, we discuss how the approach is also well suited for being implemented in high-throughput and high-yield manufacturing of large AMOLED displays on large glass substrates.

  • Nonoptimal placement of short-channel-length TFTs in large-grained polycrystalline Si films with a periodic microstructure, as for instance obtained via 2-shot SLS, can potentially lead to degradation in the overall uniformity of the resultant devices. In this paper, we explain and demonstrate that by simply introducing a well-defined misorientation between the devices and the periodic microstructure, it is possible to significantly reduce (and potentially entirely eliminate) the device nonuniformity problem that can arise from such a cause.

  • Sequential lateral solidification has recently become an option for manufacturing LTPS TFT LCDs owing to the availability of production equipment. Compared to the currently established ELA crystallization method, it is characterized by its low running costs and the high quality microstructures that can be obtained. In this presentation, we will review the production-related developments as well as elaborate on recent research activities that deal with a number of crystallization schemes that can be beneficial for future active-matrix display products.

  • We have previously shown that single-crystal Si regions on glass substrates can be obtained by crystallizing as-deposited a-Si films using a specific version of the SLS process, referred to as dot-SLS Such single-crystal islands can, for instance, be used for manufacturing of high-performance TFTs that are expected to become increasingly more relevant in the future. In this paper, we demonstrate that the dot-SLS process can be implemented using a continuous-scan SLS scheme that enables the attainment of high crystallization rates that are desired for industrial applications. We will furthermore report on recent experimental findings regarding the nature of the defects that can be created during the process.

  • Uniformity and performance characteristics of LTPS TFTs are important parameters for making advanced active-matrix displays. In this paper, we describe an SLS-based crystallization approach for producing orientation-controlled Si films with reduced concentrations of planar defects that stand to potentially deliver unprecedented levels of device uniformity and performance. Specifically, a 2-step process referred to as hybrid SLS has been developed that produces a variety of high-quality {100} surface-oriented Si films.

  • Toxicodendron vernicifluum, also called as Rhus verniciflua is a deciduous tree belonging to Anacardiaceae family. Two new caffeoyl threonate esters, rhuseols A (1) and B (2), together with 5-O-(E)-caffeoylquinic acid methyl ester (3) were isolated from the leaves of T. vernicifluum. The structures of isolated compounds were established by using 1D and 2D NMR in combination with HR-ESI-MS. Compounds 1 - 3 showed DPPH radical scavenging effects with IC50 values of 47.9, 107.8 and 15.4 μM, respectively. Taken together, these compounds might contribute to the antioxidant properties of the leaves of T. vernicifluum, which will be useful for various oxidative stress mediated diseases.

  • The primary aim of this study was to investigate the bond strength between reinforcement and concrete. Large sized nine beams, which were produced from concrete with approximately ${f_c}^{\prime}=30$ MPa, were tested. Each beam was designed to include two bars in tension, spliced at the center of the span. The splice length was selected so that bars would fail in bond, splitting the concrete cover in the splice region, before reaching the yield point. In all experiments, the variable used was the reinforcing bar diameter. In the experiments, beam specimens were loaded in positive bending with the splice in a constant moment region. In consequence, as the bar diameter increased, bond strength and ductility reduced but, however, the stiffnesses of the beams (resistance to deflection) increased. Morever, a empirical equation was obtained to calculate the bond strength of reinforcement and this equation was compared with Orangun et al. (1977) and Esfahani and Rangan (1998). There was a good agreement between the values computed from the predictive equation and those computed from equations of Orangun et al. (1977) and Esfahani and Rangan (1998).
