  • In this paper, we study effect of the factors, participating in the combustion as the initial conditions, such as the flow characteristics of the mixture and the initial temperature, pressure and equivalence ratio in the chamber on the ignitability of the mixture, the combustion duration and the maximum combustion-pressure. The experiment was performed in a constant-volume combustion chamber, with turbulent flow inside, equivalent to the actual engine at TDC. The present experiment utilizes three devices which differ from each other in the distribution and the magnitude of discharge energy.

Long-Term Evolution of Decaying MHD Turbulence in the Multiphase ISM

  • Supersonic turbulence is believed to decay rapidly within a flow crossing time irrespective of the degree of magnetization. However, this consensus of decaying magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence relies on local isothermal simulations, which are unable to investigate the role of global magnetic fields and structures. Utilizing three-dimensional MHD simulations including interstellar cooling and heating, we investigate decaying MHD turbulence within cold neutral medium sheets embedded in warm neutral medium. Early evolution is consistent with previous studies characterized rapid decay of turbulence with the decaying time shorter than a flow crossing time and power-law temporal decay of turbulent kinetic energy with slope of -1. If initial magnetic fields are strong and perpendicular to the sheet, however long term evolutions of kinetic energy shows that a significant amount of turbulent energy still remains even after ten flow crossing times, and decaying rate is reduced as field strengths increase. We analyse power spectra of remaining turbulence to show that incompressible, in-plane motions dominate.

터널내 환기용 덕트 주위의 유체유동 해석 (Analysis of Fluid Flow around Ventilation Ducts inside a Vehicle Tunnel)

  • Analyzed in this paper is fluid flow in the region near the exhaust and blower ports of the ventilation ducts inside a vehicle tunnel. Theoretical analysis shows that prediction of the energy loss in this region is important for designing the ventilation system. A finite-difference numerical model for the two-dimensional turbulent flow field was used to obtain the flow solution as well as the energy loss. It was shown that the blower-nozzle angle ($\beta$) had an important role in establishing both the pressure gradient and the energy loss, while the effect of the distance between two ports on them was not so significant.

Hydrodynamic performance of a vertical slotted breakwater

  • The wave interaction problem with a vertical slotted breakwater, consisting of impermeable upper, lower parts and a permeable middle part, has been studied theoretically. An analytical model was presented for the estimation of reflection and transmission of monochromatic waves by a slotted breakwater. The far-field solution of the wave scattering involving nonlinear porous boundary condition was obtained using eigenfunction expansion method. The empirical formula for drag coefficient in the near-field, representing energy dissipation across the slotted barrier, was determined by curve fitting of the numerical solutions of 2-D channel flow using CFD code StarCCM+. The theoretical model was validated with laboratory experiments for various configurations of a slotted barrier. It showed that the developed analytical model can correctly predict the energy dissipation caused by turbulent eddies due to sudden contraction and expansion of a slotted barrier. The present paper provides a synergetic approach of the analytical and numerical modelling with minimum CPU time, for better estimation of the hydrodynamic performance of slotted breakwater.

NREL 5 MW 풍력발전기의 기본 제어기에 대한 특성 고찰 (Investigation on Characteristics of the Baseline Controller for NREL 5 MW Wind Turbine)

  • The paper is focusing on investigating the control characteristics of the baseline controller of 5 MW wind turbine provided by NREL(National Renewable Energy Laboratory). The baseline controller consist of two control logics, a maximum power tracking control below the rated wind speed and a constant power control above the rated wind speed. In the low wind speed, the mean generator power for changing the turbulent intensity and the optimal constant is studied through numerical simulations using FAST program. On the other hand, the constant power control logic and the constant control logic are compared in the high wind speed. It is confirmed that optimal constant is closely related to the turbulent intensity in low wind speed region and the constant torque control has better performance than the constant power control with respect to mechanical load in high wind speed region.

Ship-Wake 이론을 이용한 잠수함 항적탐색 가능성 (The Detectability of Submarine's Turbulent Wake on the sea surface using Ship-Wake Theory)

  • 자유전단류(Shear free flow) 가정을 이용한 수상함 항적모델을 잠수함에 적용 결과 잠수함 난류항적 지름은 $x^n,\;({\frac{1}{5}}{\leq}n\;<{\frac{1}{2}})$ 에 비례하였으며, 난류항적의 최소 확산을 가정할 때(${\sigma}=50.25$, 즉 ${\infty}\;x^{1/5}$인 경우), 길이65m, 폭 6.5m 속력 6kts 인 잠수함의 난류항적 반지름은 잠수함 함미로부터 1.2Km 후방에서 약 20m, 10Km 후방에서는 약 30m에 달하였고, 해수면에서 관측 가능한 잠수함 난류항적은 잔잔한 해상상태에서 잠수함 후방 약 15Km에 이르는 것으로 나타났으나 쇄파가 발생하는 악천후에서는 해수면에서 난류항적을 관측하기는 매우 제한되었다. 이는 적어도 서해와 같이 얕은 잠수함 작전환경에서는 잠수함 난류항적이 해수면에서 나타나는 것을 의미하며 SAR와 같은 탐지체계를 이용 시 탐색 가능함을 의미한다.

유연재 코팅 평판의 난류 변동압력 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Characteristics of Turbulent Wall Pressure Fluctuation Over Compliant Coatings)

  • 수중운동체가 주행할 때 수중운동체의 표면에는 난류 경계층이 형성되고, 난류 경계층 내 벽면 변동압력은 탄성체인 수중운동체의 표면을 가진시켜 유동 유기 소음을 발생시킨다. 이러한 유체 소음을 감소시키기 위한 하나의 방법으로 수중운동체 표면에 유연재를 부착하여 수중운동체의 유동 유기 방사 소음을 감소시키는 방법이 제안되기도 한다. 본 논문에서는 유연재 부착에 따른 수중에서의 유체소음의 변화 특성을 살펴보기 위하여 유연재가 코팅되지 않은 강판 시편과, 고무 재질의 Neoprene 및 폴리우레탄 재질의 유연재가 부착된 강판시편을 저소음 공동수조에 설치한 후 여러 가지 유속 조건에서 유체소음의 주요 소음원인 난류 경계층 내 벽면 변동압력을 측정하고 그 결과를 비교 분석하였다. 그 결과 유연재를 코팅한 경우에는 유연재로 인하여 난류 경계층의 두께가 두꺼워지는 등 경계층 유동이 변화하지만, 유연재에서의 난류 에너지의 소산으로 인하여 고주파수 대역에서 약 10dB의 벽면 변동압력의 감소 효과를 확인할 수 있었다.

이산 Wavelet 변환을 이용한 3차원 등방성 난류속도장의응집구조 추출 (Coherent Structure Extraction from 3-Dimensional Isotropic Turbulence Velocity Field Using Discrete Wavelet Transform)

  • In this study we decompose the 3-dimensional velocity field of isotropic turbulent flow into the coherent and the incoherent structure using the discrete wavelet. It is shown that the coherent structure, 3% wavelet modes, has 98% energy and 88% enstrophy and its statistical characteristics are almost same as the original turbulence structure. And it is confirmed that the role of the coherent structure is that it produces the turbulent kinetic energy at the inertia range then transfers energy to the dissipation range. The incoherent structure, with residual wavelet modes, is uncorrelated and has the Gaussian probability density function but it dissipates the kinetic energy in dissipation range. On the procedure, we propose a new but easy way to get the threshold by applying the energy partition percentage concept about coherent structure. The vorticity field extracted from the wavelet-decomposed velocity field has the same structure as the result of the precedent studies which decomposed vorticity field directly using wavelet. Therefore it has been shown that velocity and vorticity field are on the interactive condition.

배열회수보일러(HRSG)의 입구유동 경계조건에 따른 유동특성 변화에 관한 연구 (A Numerical Analysis of Flow Characteristics in a Heat Recovery Steam Generator with the Change of Inlet Flow Conditions)

  • 본 연구는 배열회수보일러(HRSG)에서의 유동특성을 유동수치해석을 통하여 분석하였다. HRSG 입구영역은 가스터빈 후류의 출구에 해당하고 가스터빈 후류는 강한 선회 및 난류 유동이다. 따라서 HRSG 입구 유동은 가스 터빈 출구 유동 특성이 고려되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 HRSG 입구 유동 경계조건을 가스터빈 출구 유동 해석을 통하여 도출된 결과를 이용하였다. 가스터빈 출구 유동해석 결과를 보면 축방향 속도가 가장 크게 나타나는 곳이 원형 덕트의 벽면 측이고 난류운동에너지와 소산율이 크게 나타나는 곳이 속도 구배가 급격한 곳으로 축방향 속도가 최대가 되는 곳과 차이가 있다. 본 연구에서는 HRSG 입구영역에서의 난류 성분을 가스터빈 출구 유동을 계산 한 결과를 이용한 경우와 난류강도를 속도의 10%를 이용하고 원형 덕트의 직경을 특성 길이로 사용한 두 가지 경우에 대하여 유동해석을 통하여 유동 특성을 비교하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 HRSG 입구 유동 경계조건은 반드시 난류성분이 올바르게 적용되어야 HRSG 유동 특성 해석의 정확성을 기할 수 있음을 알았다.

난류 예혼합 화염 선단부의 통계적 특성에 관한 수치적 연구 (Leading Edge Statistics of a Turbulent Premixed Flame)

  • Leading edge statistics are obtained by direct numerical simulation(DNS) of freely propagating incompressible and stagnating compressible turbulent premixed flames. Conditional averages of velocities in terms of reaction progress variable, c, and local flame surface density, ${\sum}^{\prime}_f$, are defined and compared through the flame brush. It holds asymptotically that $<u>_f=<S_d>_f$ and $<u>_u-<u>_b=D_t/L_w$ with the characteristic length scale of $\bar{c}$ variation, $L_w$. It also holds that $<u>_b=<u>_f$ for a freely propagating flame under no mean strain rate. The turbulent burning velocity, $S_T$, is determined by the conditional statistics at the leading edge under large activation energy.
