The present paper describes numerical predictions for the film cooling effectiveness from a row of hole at various injection ratios and injection alngles.Numerical calculations were performed to investigate film cooling effectiveness and the characteristics of flow and temperature distributions in the region near the downstream of injection hole including the region of adverse pressure gradient. The elliptic 3-dimensional governing equations with variable thermal properties were solved by SIMPLE algorithm. The results showed that the presence of adverse pressure gradient in the region near the downstream of injection hole induces large temperature gradient. At injection angle of $35^{\circ}$ the average film cooling effectiveness was increased as increased of injection ratio up to 1.0. At injection angle of $90^{\circ}$ however, the average film cooling effectiveness was decreased from injection ratio larger than 0.4.
A parametric study on anti-vortex holes for turbine blade cooling was investigated numerically. Three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and shear stress transport turbulence model were used for analysis of anti-vortex film cooling. Validation of numerical results was carried out comparing with experimental data. The cooling performance of anti-vortex holes was assessed by two geometric variables, the ratio of diameters of holes and the lateral distances between the primary hole and anti-vortex hole at blowing ratios of 0.5 and 1.0. The results showed that the spatially-averaged film-cooling effectiveness increases as the ratio of the diameters increases and the distance between the primary hole and anti-vortex hole decreases.
The grain size and growth direction of a directionally solidified turbine blade were evaluated by the initial nucleation condition at the start block of directional solidification. The initial nucleation condition was controlled by inserting a Ni foil on the directional solidification plate of the directional solidification furnace. Fine grains with good orientation were obtained in the faster cooling condition at the start block. The nucleus number was compared with the cooling rate of the start block by electron back scattered diffraction (EBSD). DSC (differential scanning calorimeter) analysis was performed to compare the melting point and undercooling for nucleation of the coarse nuclei and fine nuclei of the start block. The faster cooling condition at the start block showed more undercooling for nucleation and smaller size of nuclei which resulted in a fine grain with good orientation in the directional turbine blade.
Periodic pulsations in the static pressure near turbine surfaces as blade rows move relative to each other is one of the important sources of turbine unsteadiness. The present experiment aims to investigate the effect of the static pressure pulsations on the interaction of film coolant flows from two rows of staggered holes with mainstream and its effect on film cooling heat transfer. Potential flow pulsations are generated by the rotating shutter mechanism installed downstream of the test section, The free-stream Strouhal number based on the boundary layer thickness is in the range of 0.033 - 0.33, and the amplitude of about 10-20%. Measured are time-averaged and phase-averaged velocity variations, pressure variations and temperature distributions of the flow field. Experimental conditions are identified by boundary layer measurements. Injectant behavior is characterized by the measurements of unsteady pressure in the plenum chamber and free-stream static pressure. The film cooling effectiveness is evaluated from the insulated wall temperature measurement. It has been found that bulk flow pulsation provides very large diffusion of the injectants and the effectiveness is significantly reduced by the flow pulsations.

The one of critical factor in gas turbine engine performance is high turbine inlet gas temperature. Therefore, the turbine rotor has so many problems which must be considered such as the turbine blade cooling, thermal stress of turbine disk due to severe temperature gradient, turbine rotor tip clearance, under the high operating temperature. The purpose of this study is to provider the temperature distribution and heat flux in turbine disk which is required to considered premensioned problem by the Finite Difference Method and the Finite Element Methods on the steady state condition. In this study, the optimum aspect ratio of turbine disk was analysed for various heat conductivity of turbine disk material by Finite Difference Method, and the effect of laminating method with high conductivity materials to disk thickness direction by Finite Element Methods in order to cool the disk. The laminating method with high conductivity material on the side of the disk is effective.
In order to protect the turbine blade from working fluid of high temperature, many cooling techniques such as internal convection cooling, film cooling, impinging jet cooling and thermal barrier coating have been developed. With all other things, film-cooling has been widely used as the important alternative. In the present work, numerical analysis has been performed to investigate and to compare the film-cooling performance of various film-cooling hole schemes such as cylindrical, crescent, louver, and dumbbell holes. To analyze the turbulent flow and the film-cooling mechanism, three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis has been performed with shear stress transport turbulence model. The validation of numerical results has been assessed in comparison with experimental data. The characteristics of fluid flow and the film-cooling performance for each shaped hole have been investigated and evaluated in terms of centerline, laterally averaged and spatially averaged film-cooling effectivenesses. Among the film cooling holes, the dumbbell shaped hole shows better film-cooling effectiveness than the other shaped holes. And the louver and cylindrical shaped hole show the worst film cooling performance, and concentrated flows on near the centerline only.
The operating temperature has been increased to improve the efficiency of gas turbine. The most advanced Gas turbine is operated at above $1,500^{\circ}C$. Improvement in material and cooling method permit hot gas path component to run at increased temperature. But, the repair of blades which are developed with advanced manufacture technique is difficult to use normal welding. Most of gas turbine blades are made of precipitation harden nickel base superalloy, which is very hard to weld. Therefore, the employment of welding filler on blade is solid solution nickel base superalloy(Hastelloy X, Inconel 617). In this study, Tensile test in high temperature was conducted on welded GTD111DS with GTD111 to evaluate effect of variation of pre, post treatment. The result of this study showed that the specimen was treated with optimum pre and post treatment(preweld HT($1200^{\circ}C$), Post treatment($1100^{\circ}C$ HIP, $1200^{\circ}C$ + $1100^{\circ}C$ + $800^{\circ}C$ HT) is mush superior.
The present study investigates heat/mass transfer for flow through perforated plates for application to combustor wall and turbine blade film cooling. The experiments are conducted for hole length to diameter ratios of 0.68 to 1.5, for hole pitch-to-diameter ratios of 1.5 and 3.0, for gap distance between two parallel perforated plates of 1 to 3 hole diameters, and for Reynolds numbers of 60 to 13, 700. Local heat/mass transfer coefficients near and inside the cooling holes are obtained using a naphthalene sublimation technique. Detailed knowledge of the local transfer coefficients is essential to analyze thermal stress in turbine components. The results indicate that the heat/mass transfer coefficients inside the hole surface vary significantly due to flow separation and reattachment. The transfer coefficient near the reattachment point is about four and half times that for a fully developed circular tube flow. The heat/mass transfer coefficient on the leeward surface has the same order as that on the windward surface because of a strong recirculation flow between neighboring jets from the array of holes. For flow through two perforated plate layers, the transfer coefficients on the target surface (windward surface of the second wall) affected by the gap spacing are approximately three to four times higher than that with a single layer.

An experimental study has been carried out for jet-impingement cooling on the semi-circular concave surface. Two different nozzles(round edged nozzle and rectangular edged nozzle) are utilized and heat transfer coefficients on the concave surface have been measured under a constant heat flux condition. The characteristics of heat transfer has been discussed in conjunction with measured jet flow. Velocity and turbulence intensity of free jets issuing from two different nozzles have been measured by Laser Doppler Anemometry and theromocouple measurements have been done for temperatures on the concave surface. The effects of the nozzle shape, the distance between the nozzle exit and the stagnation point of the surface and the nozzle exit velocity on heat transfer were studied.
