This paper analyzes the thermal behaviors of genuine discs used in automobiles and discs coming out of tuning products through FEM analysis. Modeling with genuine disk modeling and tuning disks Model-1, Model-2, Model-3 and analyzing the disk rotation speed was set to 1000rpm. When the brake is operated, the thermal behavior of the disk surface, such as the operating temperature caused by the disk and pad contact, the friction surface temperature after the disk stop, and the thermal deformation, were analyzed. When the brake was activated (0-4.5 seconds), the tuning disk showed 34℃ higher than the original disk, and after the disk stopped (40.5 seconds), the tuning disk was analyzed 18℃ lowe, deformation due to the disk heat was deformed by 0.3mm for the tuning disk. Although there is an effect to reduce the fading phenomenon due to the thermal behavior of the pure disk and the tuning disk, it can be observed that there is no significant change in the thermal behavior due to the hole processing and the disk surface processing of the tuning disk.

A disk rotor dynamic analysis program called by DR. DAP is developed for disk drive spindle systems to analyze dynamic characteristics in operation and to estimate the effects of excitation sources. It is applicable to design for stabilization and to select parts of disk drive spindle systems. The disk drive spindle system in this program is modeled as a flexible shaft with multiple flexible disks, which is supported by bearings and driven by electric motor, and its complicated coupled vibration characteristics are analyzed by using a substructure synthesis technique with the assumed-modes method. All the coupled modes of interest can be well predicted by the example of a three disk hard disk drive with the three tuning parameters. It is also shown that, with the introduction of the excitation sources associated with the defects of ball bearing systems, the magnetic unbalance of spindle motor, the program can well predict the stability of the system, i.e., the possibility of resonance.

A main vibration source in HDD is arisen from high rotating disk/spindle, and vibration suppression of the disk-spindle system becomes a critical issue and a major concern for high performance of the drive. In this paper, we study the feasibility of suppressing unwanted vibration of disk-spindle system of the HDD by external shock and excitation utilizing piezoelectric shunt damping methodology. By considering dynamic characteristics of the disk-spindle system through modal analysis, a target vibration mode is determined and then the piezoelectric material is carefully integrated to the modified drive. In order to maximize improvement of vibration characteristics of the proposed system, shunt circuit is optimally designed via tuning processes. Finally, the vibration characteristics of the high rotating disk-spindle system of the proposed drive is experimentally evaluated in frequency domain.

It is becoming more significant to develop a rotary voice coil motor(VCM) type's actuator for small form factor (SFF) optical disk drive(ODD), as portables are getting more and more popularized nowadays. The actuator which is applicable to small-sized ODD with a compact flash(CF) II card size was developed and fabricated. The experimental results showed that the finite element(FE) model is different from the fabricated model. And so flexible mode frequencies did not satisfy specifications of small-sized ODD, and tuning. Tuning procedures were required to improve dynamic characteristics of the fabricated actuator through finite difference method(FDM). At first, design variables were extracted through parameter study and the tuned FE model was improved by design of experiment(DOE). Consequently, It was confirmed that the improved model was applicable to SFF ODD.
Broadcast scheme has been widely researched for efficient data delivery in the mobile environment because the downlink capacity of a mobile client is much greater than the uplink capacity, and the power of a mobile client is limited. In the proposed scheme, the index lets the client know when data items would be broadcasted and enables the client to minimize the tuning time and power consumption. Single channel index schemes are fit to flat broadcast that performs well when all the broadcasted data items are accessed with the same probability whereas the multi-disk broadcast scheme is proper when the data access distribution is skewed. The existing index schemes, however, cannot work on the Multi-disk broadcast scheme because they cannot point the replicating data items in a broadcast cycle. This paper proposes a Multi-disk Exponential Index (MDEI) which is a single channel index scheme fit to Multi-disk broadcast scheme. Because MDEI scheme organizes a separate index for each disk, it functions with multi-disk broadcast, resulting in a greater reduction of average access latency than that of other flat-broadcast index schemes when the data access distribution is skewed. The performance evaluation showed that MDEI has a good performance when data access distribution is skewed. MDEI has short average access latency and not much average tuning time when the data access distribution is skewed.

The blade vibration problem of bladed disk is the most critical subject to consider since it directly affects the stable performance of the engine as well as life of the engine. Especially, due to complicated vibration pattern of the bladed disk, more effort was required for vibration analysis and test. The research of measuring the vibration of the bladed disk, using NSMS(Non-intrusive stress measurement) instead of Aeromechanics testing method requiring slip ring or telemetry system with strain gauge, was successful. These testing can report the actual stresses seen on the blades; detect synchronous resonances that are the source of high cycle fatigue (HCF) in blades; measure individual blade mis-tuning and coupled resonances in bladed disks. In order to minimize the error being created due to heat expansion, the tip timing sensor is installed parallel to the blade trailing edge, yielding optimal result. Also, when working on finite element analysis, the whole bladed disk has gone through three-dimensional analysis, evaluating the family mode. The result of the analysis matched well with the test result.

Brake pads are a component of disc brake system of automobile and consist of steel backing plates and friction material facing the disk brake rotor. Due to the repeated sliding forces and torque in vehicle braking, friction performance of brake pads are ensured. Futhermore, the brake pad is one of major tuning components in aftermarket, mechanical characteristics of the brake pad are necessary to evaluate for establishing the certification standards of tuning components. This study had performed the five specimen tests for friction coefficients and wear loss rates according to the SAE test specification. Using the instrumented indentation method, yield strength and tensile strength were measured. Friction coefficients, 0.386 - 0.489, and wear loss rates, 1.0% - 3.7% are obtained. The range of yield strength and tensile strength are 21.4 MPa - 105.3 MPa and 39.5 MPa - 176.4 MPa respectively.

Big data analytics offers endless opportunities for operational enhancement by extracting valuable insights from complex voluminous data. Hadoop is a comprehensive technological suite which offers solutions for the large scale storage and computing needs of Big data. The performance of Hadoop is closely tied with its configuration settings which depends on the cluster capacity and the application profile. Since Hadoop has over 190 configuration parameters, tuning them to gain optimal application performance is a daunting challenge. Our approach is to extract a subset of impactful parameters from which the performance enhancing sub-optimal configuration is then narrowed down. This paper presents a statistical model to analyze the significance of the effect of Hadoop parameters on a variety of performance metrics. Our model decomposes the total observed performance variation and ascribes them to the main parameters, their interaction effects and noise factors. The method clearly segregates impactful parameters from the rest. The configuration setting determined by our methodology has reduced the Job completion time by 22%, resource utilization in terms of memory and CPU by 15% and 12% respectively, the number of killed Maps by 50% and Disk spillage by 23%. The proposed technique can be leveraged to ease the configuration tuning task of any Hadoop cluster despite the differences in the underlying infrastructure and the application running on it.
