The tubes in heat exchanger are typically made from copper alloy, stainless steel, carbon steel, titanium alloy material. type-439 ferritic stainless steel is ferromagnetic material, and furnish higher heat transfer rates than austenitic stainless steels and higher resistance to corrosion-induced flaws. Ferritic stainless steel can typically be found in low-pressure(LP) feedwater heaters and moisture separator reheaters(MSRs). LP feedwater heaters generally utilize thin wall type-439 stainless steel tubing, whereas MSRs typically employ a heavier wall tubing with integral fins. Service-induced damage can occur on the OD(outside diameter) surface of type-439 ferritic stainless steel tubing which is employed for MSRs tubing, and the most typical damage mechanism is vibration-induced tube-to-TSP(tube support plate) wear and fatigue cracking. The wear has been reported that occurs mainly on the OD surface. Accordingly, in this study, we have evaluated the flaw sizing capability of magnetic saturation eddy current technique using magnetic saturation probe and flawed specimen.

This study was conducted to evaluate the charcoal tube sampling method for carbon disulfide in the air. Breakthrough was investigated according to flow rate, sampling time and air volume. Also the storage stability by storage method and time was investigated. The results are summarized as follows. 1. The samples stored at room temperature($28.2^{\circ}C$), refrigerator($3.8^{\circ}C$) and freezer($-15.6^{\circ}C$) were analyzed every week to five weeks. At one week storage at room temperature, 3.5% of $CS_2$ in the front section of the charcoal tube migrated into the back section and 57.7% at five weeks. The amount of $CS_2$ in the back section of the charcoal increased continuously by storage time. Migration of $CS_2$ was slow at refrigerator, and stopped occur at freezer. Recovery rate $CS_2$ was 52-82% at room temperature and 92-101% at refrigerator, based on the amount at freezer as a reference value. Thus loss was observed at room temperature. 2. When 6-48 L of fresh air were passed through tubes with spiked amounts of 0.379 and 0.759mg sample, the amounts of $CS_2$ in the back section of charcoal were 5.7-132.4 and 0-92% of the amount in the front section, respectively. The total recovery rates of$CS_2$ from 0.379 and 0.759mg spiked sample were 35.7-101.0% and 9l.3-100.1%, respectively. $CS_2$ loss was observed in 0.379mg spiked sample, but not in 0.759mg spiked sample. In the spiked samples, the amount of $CS_2$ in the back section of charcoal was not affected by flow rate when the air volume was controlled. The amount of $CS_2$ in the back section of charcoal increased over sampling time. And the faster the flow rate, the more the migration amount when the sampling time was the same. 3. A known concentration, 10 ppm of $CS_2$, was produced in a 200 L Tedlar bag. When the air volume was 24, 36, 48 L, breakthrough was 5.8, 16.9, 47.4%, respectively. The sampling flow rate of 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 Lpm did not change the breakthrough rate. Breakthrough increased over sampling time. And the faster the flow rate, the more the breakthrough, when the sampling time was the same.
Background: Pleural drainage following video-assisted thoracic surgery has traditionally been achieved with largebore, semi-rigid chest tubes. Recent trends in thoracic surgery have been toward less invasive approaches for a variety of diseases. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of drainage by means of small, soft, and flexible 14Fr Blake drains. Material and Method: Between December 2007 and March 2008, 14Fr silastic Blake drains were used for drainage of the pleural cavity in 37 patients who underwent a variety of video-assisted thoracic surgical procedures at our institution. Result: The average postoperative length of hospital stay was 3.26 days (range, 2~12 days), Blake drains were left in the pleural space for an average of 3.15 days (range, 1~7 days), and the average amount of drainage was 43.8 ml/day. The maximal amount of blood removed daily by a Brake drain was as much as 290 mL. There were no drain-related complications. Blake drains seemed to cause less pain while in place, and particularly at the time of removal. Conclusion: The use of a Blake drain following minor thoracic surgery appeared to be safe and effective in drainage of fluid or air in the pleural space, and were associated with minimal discomfort.
To evaluate the emulsion stability indices of W/O emulsion system, we developed the simple and sensitive "VOLUMETRIC METHOD". This technique involved the first step of homogenizing the milk fat-water system with Ultra-turrax T25, then the volume of the added water phase was measured immediately. After quiescent incubation in test tubes at room temperature for a desired storage time, the bottom volume of the separated water layer was measured. And then "emulsion stability index(ESI)" was calculated by the following equation : $ESI=(1-V_s/V_a){\times}100$, where $V_a$ means the volume of the added water in the W/O emulsion and $V_s$ represents the volume of the separated water in the W/O emulsion for a desired storage time. The emulsion stability indices of W/O emulsion system at sorbitan trioleate, span 60, and tween 20 were $95.4{\pm}1.8$, $56.1{\pm}2.8$, and $41.6{\pm}2.2$ respectively. Furthermore, the differences between "VOLUMETRIC METHOD" and "Titus et al method" were less than 5.0 of ESI Value.
The changes in the partition coefficient of model proteins (lysozyme, myoglobin, conalbumin, bovine serum albumin) in an aqueous two·phase system formed by polyethylene glycol and dextran were examined in order to improve the capacity of counter current distribution (CCD) for the protein fractionation and concentration . The protein distribution pattern in CCD with 30 tubes varied with the pH (4.5, 5.5, 6.5, 9.0, 12.0) and KCl concentration (0mM, 50mM, 250mM, 500mM) of the system. From the mixture of model proteins, pure myoglobin was appeared at the upperphase of 14th tube having 50mM of KCl at pH 5.5 and the upper-phase of 13th tube having 250mM of KCl at pH 6.5. Similarly pure BSA was obtained at the 14th tube having KCl 250mM with pH 4.5, pure lysozyme at the 19th tube having 500mM of KCl at pH 4.5 and the upper-phase of 16th tube 50mM of KCl at pH 5.5.

Stress and fatigue of the distributor, an equipment of the high-pressure evaporator for the HRSG, were evaluated according to ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII Division 2. First, from the results of the piping system analysis model, reaction forces of the tubes connected to the distributor were derived and used as the nozzle load applied to the detailed analysis model of the distributor afterward. Next, the detailed model to analyze the distributor was constructed, the distributor being statically analyzed for the design condition with the steam pressure and the nozzle load. As a result, the maximum stress occurred at the bore of the horizontal nozzle, and the primary membrane stress at the shell and nozzle was found to be less than the allowable. Next, for the transient operating conditions given for the distributor, thermal analysis was performed and the structural analysis was carried out with the steam pressure, nozzle load, and thermal load. Under the transient conditions, the maximum stress occurred at the vertical downcomer nozzle, and of which fatigue life was evaluated. As a result, the cumulative usage factor was less than the allowable and hence the distributor was found to be safe from fatigue failure.

Currently, vertical closed ground heat exchangers are the most widely utilized geothermal heat pump systems and the major influencing parameters on the performance of ground heat exchangers are the ground thermal conductivity(k) and borehole thermal resistance($R_b$). In this study, the borehole thermal resistance was calculated from the in-situ thermal response test data and the individual effects of design parameters (flow rate, number of pipe, grout composition) on the borehole thermal resistance were analyzed. The grout thermal resistance was also compared with the correlations in the literatures. The borehole thermal resistance of the investigated ground heat exchanger results in 0.1303 W/m.K and the grout thermal resistance (66.6% of borehole thermal resistance) is the most influencing parameter on borehole heat transfer compared to the other design parameters (pipe thermal resistance, 31.5% and convective thermal resistance, 1.9%). In addition, increasing the thermal conductivity of grout by adding silica sand to Bentonite is more effective than the other design improvements, such as an increase in circulating flowrate or number of tubes on enhancing borehole heat transfer.
This study was conducted to predict the density changes according to concentration and temperature changes under freezing point. This information is needed for the design of freezing equipment and for the efficient utilization of refrigerating system. Orange juice, Apple juice, Grape juice and Sucrose solution were used for the measurement of density in this study at the temperature range from $-5^{\circ}C$ to $-40^{\circ}C$ and at the concentration range from 10 to 40%. The unfrozen water fraction of samples was determined by Heldman's method. The density values were determined by measuring the weight of a frozen solution at each temperature with a known volume. Solutions were placed in the thick-walled aluminum tubes. When the solution was frozen the excess ice was removed with a razor until the surface of the ice was flush with the top of the aluminum tube. The tube and ice were weighted immediately. Knowing the volume, tare weight, and final weight, the density could be determined. With this procedure, the data of density and unfrozen water fraction for fruit juices and sucrose solution were collected. The density prediction models of fruit juices and sucrose solution under freezing point were established by the optimization computer program with measured experimental data.
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of dietary lysine deficiency on protein turnover of porcine muscles. There were 18 LYD three-breed-crossing postweanling barrows from six litters cannulated with gastric tubes through the esophagus at approximate 10 kg of body weight and allocated into three treatment groups. When their body weights reached over 12 kg, one group was sacrificed for determining the initial protein masses of m. masseter, m. longissimus dorsi, m. adductor and m. biceps femoris from the right body side. The others received a diet containing 100% or 61.4% (calculated values) of the lysine requirement (NRC, 1998) multiplied by 1.103 for a period of 17 days. Daily feed provision was computed for each pig according to body weight at the same day. All pigs were infused a flooding dose of $^2$H$_5$-phenylalanine to determine the fractional protein synthesis rates (FSR) of the aforementioned muscles in the end. Their four muscles from the right body side were also dissected for measuring the fractional rates of protein accretion (FAR). As for protein degradation, fractional rates (FDR) were calculated by differences between synthesis and accretion. Results showed that the lysine deficiency resulted in, significantly (p<0.05), lighter body weights, smaller muscles and a slower growth rate. The protein mass, accreted by the muscles, of the deficient group was only 54% averaged of the pigs fed adequately (p<0.05). The FAR of these muscles in the deficient group was significantly lower (p<0.05) and only achieved 61.1% averaged of the control; there was no significant difference (p>0.05), nevertheless, in the amino-acid composition of muscles between two groups. The lysine deficiency reduced significantly (p<0.05) the FSR of m. longissimus dorsi but did not influence its FDR. The m. biceps femoris also presented an inhibited FSR while its FDR reduced only exhibited a very high tendency (p = 0.055) compared to the adequately-fed pigs. As for the m. masseter and m. adductor, both of the FSR and FDR were depressed significantly (p<0.05) by the lysine deficiency, and changes in the FSR were severer than those in the FDR, so that their FAR were significantly slower (p<0.05) in comparison with the control group. The lysine deficiency also inhibited the RNA translation activity of the muscles while the effects on RNA capacity were not significant (p>0.05). In conclusion, the FAR of muscle protein was changed by the current lysine deficiency through the alterations in the FSR and/or FDR.

The emergence of microcarrier technology has brought a renewed interest in anchorage-dependent cell culture for high-yield processes. Well-known in vaccine production, microcarrier culture also has potential for application in other fields. In this work, two types of microcarriers were evaluated for small-scale monoclonal antibody (mAb) production by CHO-K1 cells. Cultures (5 ml) of microporous Cytodex 3 and macroporous CultiSpher-S carriers were performed in vented conical tubes and subsequently scaled-up (20 ml) to shake-flasks, testing combinations of different culture conditions (cell concentration, microcarrier concentration, rocking methodology, rocking speed, and initial culture volume). Culture performance was evaluated by considering the mAb production and cell growth at the phases of initial adhesion and proliferation. The best culture performances were obtained with Cytodex 3, regarding cell proliferation (average $1.85{\pm}0.11{\times}10^6$ cells/ml against $0.60{\pm}0.08{\times}10^6$ cells/ml for CultiSpher-S), mAb production ($2.04{\pm}0.41{\mu}g/ml$ against $0.99{\pm}0.35{\mu}g/ml$ for CultiSpher-S), and culture longevity (30 days against 10-15 days for CultiSpher-S), probably due to the collagen-coated dextran matrix that potentiates adhesion and prevents detachment. The culture conditions of greater influence were rocking mechanism (Cytodex 3, pulse followed by continuous) and initial cell concentration (CultiSpher-S, $4{\times}10^5$ cells/ml). Microcarriers proved to be a viable and favorable alternative to standard adherent and suspended cultures for mAb production by CHO-K1 cells, with simple operation, easy scale-up, and significantly higher levels of mAb production. However, variations of microcarrier culture performance in different vessels reiterate the need for optimization at each step of the scale-up process.
