In this paper, fretting wear tests were conducted in air at room temperature (RT) and in water at high temperature and high pressure (HTHP) environment to analyze the wear characteristic. As for the supporting condition between the tube and spring/dimple, the gap of 0.2 mm in air at RT and the normal force of 10 N and the slip of $50\;{\mu}\;m$ in water at HTHP were applied. Four different shapes of spring/dimple specimen (type A, B, C, D) were used. Detail eaxamination of wear scar was also performed using SEM micrographs. As a result, in the case of the spring of truncated wedge, severer wear occurs than the others. Protrusion part was found and larger in air at RT. It is thought that the difference in the wear volume and the protrusion is caused by the different wear mechanism corresponding to the different environment.
Friction stir processing (FSP) was applied to fabricate AZ31/CNT (Carbon Nano Tube) surface composite for improvement of surface hardness of AZ31 Mg-based alloy. The effects of traverse speed of rotating tool and volume fraction of CNT (i.e., groove depth of 3 mm and 4 mm) on the soundness and hardness of the composite layer were investigated. Multi-walled CNTs were fully filled in a machined groove and stirring tool was rotated at the speed of 1400 rpm. Only under the tool traverse speed of 25 mm/min for the specimen with a groove depth of 3 mm, surface composite layer with no defect was successfully produced. Increased hardness of about 35% was observed in the composite layer.

In recent decades, it has been realized that increasing the lateral stiffness of structure subjected to lateral loads is not the only parameter enhancing safety or reducing damage. Factors such as ductility and damping govern the structural response due to lateral loads. Despite the significant contribution of damping in resisting lateral loads, especially at resonance, there is no accurate mathematical representation for it. The main objective of this study is to develop a damping identification procedure for linear systems based on a mixed numerical-experimental approach, assuming viscous damping. The proposed procedure has been applied to a laboratory experiment associated with a numerical model, where a hollow rectangular steel cantilever column, having three lumped masses, has been fixed on a shaking table subjected to different exciting waves. The modal damping ratio has been identified; in addition, the effect of adding filling material to the hollow specimen has been studied in relation to damping enhancement. The results have revealed that the numerically computed response based on the identified damping is in a good fitting with the measured response. Moreover, the filling material has a significant effect in increasing the modal damping.

Brucellosis is caused by gram-negative, aerobic, non-motile, facultative, intracellular coccobacilli belonging to the genus Brucella. A 50-year-old man working as an employee was admitted to neurosurgery clinic with severe low back, radicular right leg pain and hypoesthesia in right L4-5 dermatomes for 2 months. Brucella tube agglutination (Wright) test was positive in serum sample of the patient with a titer of 1/640. Brucella melitensis was isolated from blood culture. X-ray and MRI of the lomber spine showed massive collapse of L4 vertebral body. Neural tissue was decompressed and then posterior L3-5 short segment transpedicular screw fixation and stabilization was performed. Brucella melitensis was isolated from microbiologic culture of pathologic specimen. Antibiotic therapy was given as doxycycline 200 mg/day and rifampicin 600 mg/day for 6 months. Brucellosis is a systemic zoonotic infection and still an important public health problem in many geographical parts of the world. Vertebral body collapse caused by brucellosis occurs very rarely but represents a neurosurgical emergency because of its potential for causing rapidly progressive spinal cord compression and permanent paralysis. Neurosurgeons, emergency department personnel as well as infectious disease specialists should always keep a high index of suspicion and include brucellosis in the differential diagnosis of vertebral body collapse.
Two scale worms of the family Polynoidae, Arctonoe vittata (Grube, 1855) and Hyperhalosydna striata (Kingberg, 1856) were found for the first time from Korea by SCUBA diving survey. The two species are free-living organisms or associated commensally with a wide variety of other invertebrates. Specimens of A. vittata were collected from the East Sea and were closely associated with asteroids, holothuroids, gastropods and nudibranchs species. Specimens of H. striata were collected from Jeju-do Island, and of these, one specimen was collected in a tube of eunicid species. The two species can be easily distinguished from their congeners by distinct morphological characteristics as follows: (1) A. vittata has pigmented band near segment eight and two kinds of neurochaetae; (2) H. striata has reddish-brown longitudinal striped elytra. The morphological key characteristics of both species agreed well with their original descriptions and redescriptions. In this study, the descriptions, detailed illustrations and ecological photographs of two species based on Korean materials were provided.
Short-term high temperature degradation test was conducted on Hastelloy X, a candidate tube material for high temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGR), to evaluate the variation of microstructure and mechanical property in air at $1050^{\circ}C$ during 2000 h. The dominant oxide layer was Cr-oxide and a very shallow Cr-depleted region was observed below the oxide layer. At the beginning of degradation, the island shape $M_6C$ precipitate (M=Mo-rich, Fe, Ni, Cr) was observed in matrix region. After 2000 h degradation, precipitate shape was changed to the chain shape and increased amount of precipitate. These results influenced mechanical property of the specimen which exposed in high temperature. Yield strength was decreased from 115MPa to 89 MPa after 24 h and 2000 h exposure, respectively.

Umbilical cord blood has been recently considered an attractive potential alternative as a source of stem cell transplantation to curing diseases such as leukemia, cancers, immune disorders. Normally the stored system of the umbilical cord blood specimen is equipped with a computer-controlled robotic arm that enables the samples to locate the identification places in liquid nitrogen tank at regulated temperature as about $-196^{\circ}C$. As the half of robotic arm is in the air and the rest part is submerged in liquid nitrogen, the temperature of robotic arm varies from ambient to liquid nitrogen temperature. In this study the temperature variation of upper part of arm above tank lid was thermally analysed by using the commercial code of Ansys. The result of analysis was that the upper part of robotic arm was seriously frozen due to heat transfer from liquid nitrogen as low as -$120^{\circ}C$. In order to solve the frost problem of robotic arm, small PTFE tube block as resistance material was introduced into the lower part of tank lid instead of the whole stainless steel(SUS) robotic arm. The results showed that the temperature of robotic arm above the lid was higher enough, and this method would be one of the very effective measure to solve the problem.
Multi-level (macro-level, meso-level, and micro-level) mechanism of prefinitely strained concrete materials os studied The multi-level analysis explains the additional quasibrittle concrete material ductility that comes from lateral confinement and their multi-level interaction mechanisms. The so-called "upgraded tube-squash test" is used to achieve 50% axial strain and over 70 degree of deviatoric strain of quasibrittle concrete materials under extremely high pressure without producing visible cracks. In the micro-level analysis, the variations of hydration rte, micropores, and hydrate phased are analyzed. In the meso-level analysis, mesocracks (the initial invisible cracks) at the interfaces between aggregates and cement paste matrices are studied. The high confining effect in the specimen on the meso-level cracks is also studied. In the macro-level analysis, the physical behavior of prefinitely strained concrete materials is studied. The co-relationships of the results from the three distinct levels of analyses based in various prestraining (0%, 15%, 35%, and 50%) are studied. For the extremely deformed or strained concrete problems, multi-level analysis will be used to explain the unclear and unstudied mechanism of concrete materials, The multi-level analysis can provide us with valuable insights that can explain the additional ductility and confining effect in concrete. concrete.
In this study, circular sectional concrete-filled tube(CFT) column-to-foundation connections were numerically investigated in order to improve their structural details. A inner reinforced specimen with high-tension bolts and inner deformed bars was adopted from a previous experimental study to make the numerical model. The validity of the numerical method was verified through comparing the experimental results with the analysis's ones. In order to optimize design variables about the inner reinforced model, a number of numerical analyses were conducted for various variables. Finally, this study suggested the optimum variables about the reinforced circular sectional CFT column-to-foundation connections.
This experiment was conducted to separate X-and Y-bearing spermatozoa of boar semen. The ratio of X-and Y-bearing spermatozoa to total spermatozoa included in ejaculated semen obtained from 4 boars raising at the College of Agriculture, Seoul National University and treated by the sedimentory or electrophoretic technique was estimated. For the electrophoresis, the semen specimen was placed into the co, pp.r loop electrodes in 30cc of glass tube at room temperature for 30 minutes and in order to sedimentary separation, the semen was sedimented in 5$^{\circ}C$ water for 50 minutes. The sperm fluorescent stainning technique was performed by the method of Bhattacharya etal (1976). The results obtained were as follows; 1. Average rate of B-body bearing spermatozoa in normal boar semen was 45.15${\pm}$4.20%, and no significant difference was observed between 1st (44.88${\pm}$6.41%) and 2nd (42.75${\pm}$4.17%) fraction of fractionally collected semen. 2. Spermatozoa were separated into several different fractions by sedimentation. B-body a, pp.arances from the top and bottom fraction were 53.70% and 33.43%, respectively. There were highly significant difference between the top and bottom fractions. 3. The swine spermatozoa were separated into X-and Y-bearing spermatozos by electrophoresis without interferring the sperm motility. The rates of B-body bearing spermatozoa attracted on the anode and cathode were 60.4% and 21.8%, respectively. Highly significant difference betwee two fractions was also observed.
