Connectivity and trust in social networks have been exploited to propose applications on top of these networks, including routing, Sybil defenses, and anonymous communication systems. In these networks, and for such applications, connectivity ensures good performance of applications while trust is assumed to always hold, so as collaboration and good behavior are always guaranteed. In this paper, we study the impact of differential behavior of users on performance in typical social network-enabled routing applications. We classify users into either collaborative or rational (probabilistically collaborative) and study the impact of this classification and the associated behavior of users on the performance of such applications, including random walk-based routing, shortest path based routing, breadth-first-search based routing, and Dijkstra routing. By experimenting with real-world social network traces, we make several interesting observations. First, we show that some of the existing social graphs have high routing costs, demonstrating poor structure that prevents their use in such applications. Second, we study the factors that make probabilistically collaborative nodes important for the performance of the routing protocol within the entire network and demonstrate that the importance of these nodes stems from their topological features rather than their percentage of all the nodes within the network.
This paper examines the diverse conceptualizations of trust and explores the multi-level factors affecting trust in organizations. Trust in organizations can be defined as a willingness to be vulnerable to the actions of others and to take risks based on the positive expectations toward the others' intentions and behaviors. The process of building and the content of trust in organizations can vary depending on the social and cultural backgrounds in which. the organizations lie. The reengineering process toward a flatter and flexible organizational structure requires the presence of trusting relationships within organizations. Networks within organizations can function as a basis and channel of trust formation. Finally, the importance of trust in efficient leadership process was discussed.

Interpersonal trust is the mutual "faithfulness" on which all social relationship ultimately depend and applicable to the relations among people rather than to their psychological states taken individually. Recent development in the organizational sciences reflect the importance of interpersonal trust relationships for sustaining individual and organizational effectiveness, researchers have recongnized trust's influence on coordination and control at both institutional and interpersonal levels of organization. This study was intended to devise means to encourage participation for organizations taking part in "resident participation parks.", "Resident participation" has become increasingly recognized as an effective means of park management in Korea. To this end, this study analyzed the current status of social networks for civic organizations participating in park management with respect to their degree of participation, credibility and trust, and exchange of information. Among resident participation parks, "Seoul Forest Park" has been widely recognized as a model example; accordingly this study designated Seoul Forest Park as its primary research focus. Thirty core members of resident participation organizations were selected as test subjects. Members of the resident participation organizations under review came from various backgrounds, including government administrative organizations, citizens' groups, residents' groups, and private businesses. Surveys were used to provide data on credibility and trust between organizations, levels of participation, and exchange of information, as well as statistics on demographic affiliation. Results were examined through UCINET, a program designed to analyze social networks. Survey results indicated that 1) The "Seoul Forest Park Conservancy" and the "Seoul Forest Park Management Office" constituted a hub within their social networks that maintained significantly more relationships than other organizations with regard to levels of credibility and trust, participation, and exchange of information; 2) Social networks for organizations wishing to work together, or desiring active participation in the future tended to center on citizens' organizations in the environmental and arts fields; and 3) Women's associations and meetings of neighborhood("tong") leaders had very little significance as a center in the social networks of local residents groups, and indeed very few connections amongst themselves. The results of this research can be applied in the devising of proposals for encouraging participation in resident participation parks in consideration of the social networks between organizations engaging in park management activities for a diverse array of urban parks and other areas.
As Web-based online communities are rapidly growing, the agents in social groups need to know their measurable belief of trust for safe andsuccessful interactions. In this paper, we propose a computational model of trust resulting from available feedbacks in online communities. The notion of trust can be defined as an aggregation of consensus given a set of past interactions. The averagetrust of an agent further represents the center of gravity of the distribution of its trustworthiness and untrustworthiness. And then, we precisely describe the relationship between reputation, trust, and averagetrust through a concrete example of their computations. We apply our trust model to online internet settings in order to show how trust mechanisms are involved in a rational decision-making of the agents.
Objectives: This study identified how personal characteristics, healthy behavior and social capital might influence on physical activity of adults. Methods: This study used data from the health survey of a city of Korea. We surveyed 1,000 adults sampled by stratified sampling methods from 67,889 households. Outcome variable was the stage of physical activity which was broken into 5 categories. Sociodemographic factors, healthy behavior, self-rated health status and social capital were used as control variables. Sociodemographic factors included age, sex, educational status, economic status measured by deprivation score, residential period within survey city. Social capital was measured by Integrated Questionnaire for the Measurement of Social Capital (SC-IQ). This study used chi-square test and ordered logistic regression models to examine the associations between independent variables and physical activity. Variables were added to the regression model in three groups using a hierarchical approach. Results: Physical activity was significantly more likely to become active if they have higher educational status, healthier behavior. Among the six dimensions of SC-IQ, only "groups and networks" that is structural dimensions of social capital and "trust and solidarity" that is cognitive dimensions of social capital were significantly related to physical activity of adults. We found that a person having higher density of membership and having larger size of networks showed the high possibility of active physical activity. A person having high solidarity was significantly associated with physical activity, but general trust was inversely related to physical activity. Output dimensions of social capital did not show significant relationship to physical activity. Conclusion: We found that social capital is useful concept to explain health behaviors like physical activity. However we must consider social, cultural and political context of the study to evaluate the effect of social capital to health status and health determinants and to capture the exact meaning of relationship between them. We suggest further researches to refine the concept of social capital and to explain the relationship of social capital to diverse health determinants.

The industrial community in a metropolis has played an essential role to keep business in a large city. This paper aims to analyze the realities of trade network among enterprises at Buksungro Tools Commercial Cooperative in Daegu. The urban style industrial community is found at Buksungro in Daegu. There are more than one hundred small-sized enterprises. Major trades among enterprises are occurred within and/or by the area. The long-term trade networks within the Buksungro Tools Commercial Cooperative have played the key role to maintain the industrial community. The trade relationship has depended on business networks based on social capital rather than commercial mechanism. The trade networks have been established through credit transactions as well as handling troublesome orders. The trade networks help to transfer technology and to learn the tacit knowledge among firms. The long-term trade networks are more influenced by the social accessibility than spatial accessibility.
Many people have a social network service (SNS) by utilizing a variety of community activities, information sharing, and the creation of social networking. In terms of marketing academics view social networks between businesses and consumers in the new communication strategy, a new way to make them in terms of marketing a new business opportunity. That is, they are actively engaged in the various marketing activities targeting customers using SNS. According to H. A. Simon's needle theory, it is efficient to make a decision within the bounded rationality due to the difficulty of collecting data in decision-making as well as the inability to collect all information because of limited time and money. If the information or the informant can be trusted, the customers would be able to make a quick decision and get higher satisfaction from it. Therefore, this study examines and thereby empirically demonstrates what role customers' trust plays in a company's marketing using SNS by exploring how trust condition works in the mediated model and, theoretically, intends to introduce an empirical methodology on more strictly mediated moderating effects and, in practice, revisit the role of trust on direct and indirect effect the SNS's Information quality has on the performance variables such as customer satisfaction and loyalty. This study thereby aims to provide a strategic tool for the companies that plan to use the SNS in developing marketing strategies.

Under the international business circumstance, global supply chain management is considered a vital strategic challenge to small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) suffering from deficient resources and capabilities to exploit overseas markets comparing with large corporations. That is because they can expand their business domains into overseas markets by establishing strategic alliances with global supply chain partners. Although a wide range of previous researches have emphasized the cooperative networks in the chain, most are ignoring the importance of developing relational characteristics such as trust and reciprocity with the partners. Besides, verifying the relational factors influencing firms' export performances, some studies proposed different and inconsistent factors. According to the social capital theory, which is the social quality and networks facilitating close cooperation of inter-individual and inter-organization, provides the integrated view to identify the relational characteristics in the aspects of network, trust and reciprocal norm. Meanwhile, a number of researchers shows that global entrepreneurship is the internal and intangible resource necessary to promote SMEs' internationalization. Upon closer examination, however, they cannot explain clearly its influencing mechanism in the inter-firm cooperative relationships. This study is to verify the effect of social capital accumulated within global supply chain on SMEs' qualitative and quantitative export performance. In addition, we shed new light on global entrepreneurship expected to be concerned with the formation of social capital and the enhancement of export performances. For this purpose, the questionnaires, developed through literature review, were collected from 192 Korean SMEs affiliated in Korean Medium Industries Association and Global Chief Executive Officer's Club focusing on their memberships' international business. As a result of multi-regression analysis, the social capital - network, trust and reciprocal norm shared with global supply chain partner - as well as global entrepreneurship - innovativeness, proactiveness and risk-taking - have positive effect on SMEs' export performances. Also global entrepreneurship affects positively social capital which has mediating effect partially in the relationship between global entrepreneurship and performances. These results means that there is a structural process - global entrepreneurship(input), social capital(output), and export performances(outcome). In other words, a firm should consistently invest in and develop the social capital with global supply chain partners in order to achieve common goals, establish strategic collaborations and obtain long-term export performances. Furthermore, it is required to foster the global entrepreneurship in an organization so as to build up the social capital. More detailed practical issues and discussion are made in the conclusion.

This study sought to verify and examine the factors that influence social capital on social economy awareness. To summarize the results of the study, the results are as follows. As a result of analyzing the impact of social capital on social economy awareness, norms (t=3.228, p<.01) and participation (t=3.057, p<.01) had a significant impact on social economy awareness. In other words, the better the norms are observed and the higher the participation, the more influence it has on social economy awareness. Based on these results, the following implications were drawn. First, 'norms' refer to rules or standards that community members must adhere to within society, and these norms play a role in regulating the behavior of individuals and promoting social cooperation. Through this, it is believed that a strong normative system can have a significant impact on the way people participate or cooperate in social economy activities. Second, 'participation' is an indicator of how actively an individual or group participates in social activities. People with high levels of participation through social capital will have a high level of understanding of social economy awareness and will be able to act effectively. These results show that in previous studies, the better the norms were observed and the more trust and networks were strengthened, the higher the awareness of social economy. In contrast, in this study, norms and trust were found to have an effect, but the network did not, showing a difference from the results of previous studies, so repeated research is expected to be necessary in the future. Considering the results above, strengthening and developing the elements of social capital such as norms and participation can have a positive impact on overall socioeconomic awareness and development.
