Effects of Nurses' Self-leadership and Team Trust on Organizational Commitment (병원간호사의 셀프리더십과 팀 신뢰성이 조직몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between self-leadership, team trust, organizational commitment and identify the influencing factors on organizational commitment. Methods: The subjects in the study were 296 conveniently selected general nurses at 2 general hospitals in Chungbuk Province. The measurements included the self-leadership, organizational trust inventory (OTI), and organizational commitment. Results: The mean score for self-leadership was 3.40, the mean score for OTI was 3.61, and the mean score for organizational commitment was 3.07. There were significant correlations among self-leadership, team trust and organizational commitment. Self-leadership had significant correlation with team trust (r=.25, p<.001). Also, self-leadership (r=.34, p<.001) and team trust (r=.31, p<.001) showed significant correlation with organizational commitment. In stepwise multiple regression analysis, age, self-leadership and team trust were included in the factors affecting organizational commitment of clinical nurses. These variables explained 20% of organizational commitment. Conclusion: The results confirmed that nurses' self-leadership and team trust affects significant influences on organizational commitment. Accordingly, in order to enhance nurses' organizational commitment, it is necessary to build effective strategies to enhance self-leadership and team trust for nurses. Such strategies will be able to improve the goal achievement of nursing unit.

Discovery Elbow System arthroplasty polyethylene bearing exchange: outcomes and experience

  • Background: The Discovery Elbow System (DES) utilizes a polyethylene bearing within the ulnar component. An exchange bearing requires preoperative freezing and implantation within 2 minutes of freezer removal to allow insertion. We report our outcomes and experience using this technique. Methods: This was an analysis of a two-surgeon consecutive series of DES bearing exchange. Inclusion criteria included patients in which exchange was attempted with a minimum 1-year follow-up. Clinical and radiographic review was performed 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 and 10 years postoperative. Outcome measures included range of movement, Oxford Elbow Score (OES), Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS), complications and requirement for revision surgery. Results: Eleven DESs in 10 patients were included. Indications were bearing wear encountered during humeral component revision (n=5); bearing failure (n=4); and infection treated with debridement, antibiotics and implant retention (DAIR; n=2). Bearing exchange was conducted on the first attempt in 10 cases. One case required a second attempt. One patient developed infection postoperatively managed with two-stage revision. Mean follow-up of the bearing exchange DES was 3 years. No further surgery was required, with no infection recurrence in DAIR cases. Mean elbow flexion-extension and pronosupination arcs were 107°(±22°) and 140° (±26°). Mean OES was 36/48 (±12) and MEPS was 83/100 (±19). Conclusions: Our results support the use of DES bearing exchange in cases of bearing wear with well-fixed stems or acute infection. This series provides surgeons managing DES arthroplasty with management principles, successful and reproducible surgical techniques and expected clinical outcomes in performing DES polyethylene bearing exchange. A Study on Success Factors of Buyer - Supplier Relationship in Elementary School Lunch : From the buyer's viewpoint (초등학교 급식에서 구매자 - 공급자 관계의 성공요인에 관한 연구 - 구매자의 관점에서 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify success factors for desirable relationship between buyer and supplier in elementary school. Therefore, the survey questionnaire consisted of general background, past success, success difference, buyer-supplier relationship characteristics(trust, supporting status, communication behavior, conflict resolution techniques, supplier selection process). The subjects were 66 dieticians of elementary school in Inchon. The statistical analysis of data was completed using SPSS program. The results were summarized as follows : Average total cost/day per one person ₩1,156. The number of suppliers per one school were 6. 92.3% of the subjects were in favor of private contract, regarding contract methods of purchasing food materials. For the past success, degree of satisfaction about past their supplier showed 3.49 score. The present success difference was shown higher than the past success. There was significant correlation between the past success and the present success difference. Trust about suppliers showed 3.40score. Supplying companies hardly support for buying school. Among information quality(timely, accurate, adequate, complete, credible), timely and complete showed lower score than the other kind of elements. Among the buyer-supplier relationship characteristic elements, only trust correlated with satisfaction about suppliers significantly. Among the conflict resolution techniques, joint problem solving and persuasive attempts were often made use of by subjects. The supplier selection criteria were shown quality(7.47), supplier's capabilities(6.46), management plan(6.00), price(5.73), scale(5.48), assets(5.27), considers delivery(4.76) and technology(2.39). As results, trust was needed for the desirable relationship between buyers and suppliers. This study has some limitations. The data in this study were collected from only buyer. It is more desired to acquire data from suppliers also.

A Research on the Factors affecting the Score of Airport Service Quality(ASQ) Considering the Interaction Between Airport Authority and Subcontractor (공항운영당국과 협력업체와의 상호관계에 있어 공항서비스평가(ASQ) 성과에 미치는 영향요인에 관한 연구)

  • Incheon international airport has been successful, that is, the winner of Airport Service Quality (ASQ) evaluation performed by ACI(Airport Council International) for nine consecutive years. It goes without saying that such an outstanding performance was made not only by airport authority itself but by the collaboration among subcontractors at Incheon international airport. Since Incheon airport is showing more than 80% of outsourcing rate, it is important to mention and study the roles and functions of subcontractors who has made a major contribution to ASQ performance. According to empirical research in this paper, it was found out service attitude, communication skill and interdependence between airport authority and subcontractors were important factors affecting the ASQ score. It is also analyzed that those independent factors have an impact on ASQ performance through the intermediate factor of trust. As a result, service attitude and interdependence between airport authority and subcontractors have statistically a significant effect to the relational satisfaction and ASQ performance. It could be concluded that trust is significant factor determining the causal relationship among service attitude, communication skill, relational satisfaction and ASQ score.

Effect of professor trust and learning flow among allied health students (보건계열 대학생의 교수신뢰가 학습몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between professor trust and learning flow in allied health students and to provide the basic data for the improvement of curriculum and teaching method. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 263 allied health students. The questionnaire consisted of 27 questions of professor trust by Likert 5 scale and 29 questions of learning flow by Likert 6 scale. Cronbach's alpha in this study was 0.97 in professor trust, 0.96 in learning flow. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation and stepwise multiple regressions. Results: The score was 3.72 in professor trust and 3.46 in learning flow. There were positive correlations between learning flow and professor trust including intimacy, professional, teaching skills and leadership. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that learning flow was related with professor trust. Conclusions: The learning flow depends on professor trust. Based on the research, improvement directions that put strong emphasis on low section of professor trust and learning flow must be placed.

  • Web services instances can be classified into two categories, namely trusted and untrusted from users. A web service with high throughput (TP) and low response time (RT) instance values is a trusted web service. Web services are not trustworthy due to the mismatch in the guaranteed instance values and the actual values achieved by users. To perform web services selection from users' attained TP and RT values, we need to verify the correct prediction of trusted and untrusted instances from invoked web services. This accurate prediction of web services instances is used to perform the selection of web services. We propose to construct fuzzy rules to label web services instances correctly. This paper presents web services selection using a well-known machine learning algorithm, namely REPTree, for the correct prediction of trusted and untrusted instances. Performance comparison of REPTree with five machine learning models is conducted on web services datasets. We have performed experiments on web services datasets using a ten k-fold cross-validation method. To evaluate the performance of the REPTree classifier, we used accuracy metrics (Sensitivity and Specificity). Experimental results showed that web service (WS1) gained top selection score with the (47.0588%) trusted instances, and web service (WS2) was selected the least with (25.00%) trusted instances. Evaluation results of the proposed web services selection approach were found as (asymptotic sig. = 0.019), demonstrating the relationship between final selection and recommended trust score of web services.

Effects of Clinical Learning Environment and Professor Trust on Academic Engagement in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 임상실습교육환경과 교수신뢰가 학업참여에 미치는 영향)

  • This descriptive study was conducted to investigate the relationship between clinical learning environment, professor trust, and academic engagement in nursing students. The findings of the study provide the basis for nursing education improvement related to academic engagement in nursing students. Data were collected from 120 nursing students at a university. Measurement parameters consisted of clinical learning environment (CLE, Clinical Learning Environment) 19 items, professor trust (PTS, Professor Trust Scale) 27 items, and academic engagement (UWES-S, Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-Students) 13 items. The general characteristics of respondents were as follows: average age 21.91 years, females 87.4%, third grade 50.5%, fourth grade 49.5%, and an academic score just before the semester of high 16.2%, middle high 35.1%, middle low 36.9%, or low 11.5%. Academic engagement showed a statistically significant correlation between clinical learning environment and professor trust. Regression analysis showed that clinical learning environment (CLE), professor trust (PTS), and academic score just before the semester affected academic engagement. Results of this study suggest that clinical learning environment should be improved, and professor's efforts to give students credibility should be followed for academic engagement of nursing students.

Customers Trust on Islamic Banks in Indonesia

  • This paper aims to provide an overview of customer trust toward Islamic banks, and to study the effect of trust on the selection of Islamic banks services. A total 375 questionnaires were distributed to the three groups of bank customers, i.e. Islamic banks customers, conventional banks customers, and customers of both banks (125 respondents in each group). Trust is measured based on three constructs, namely Ability, Integrity, and Benevolence. To test the hypothesis this study employs Analysis of Variance and Tukey Test. The results show that bank customers have degree of trust towards Islamic banks relatively high enough, although among the respondents had never become customers of Islamic banks. Benevolence as the dimension with the lowest average score revealed the Islamic banks are more believed as a competent and honest bank in carrying out the business than the bank that will work for the benefit of customers. Other findings suggest that degree of trust have significant affects on the decision for using the Islamic banks services. The positive values that embedded in the concepts and systems of the Islamic is the key to improving the competitiveness of Islamic banks.

This Effect of Eco-friendly Agricultural Product Selection Criteria on the Degree of Consumer Trust and Recommendation Intention (친환경 농산물의 선택결정요인이 소비자신뢰와 추천의도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examined the factors that affect the relationship between eco-friendly agricultural products selection criteria, consumer trust, and recommendation intention. A total of 220 questionnaires were distributed to consumers, of which 210 were deemed suitable for analysis after the removal of 10 unusable responses. In order to perform statistical analyses required in the study, SPSS 18.0 Statistical Program was employed for frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlations, and regression analysis. The results of exploratory factor analysis showed that four factors regarding eco-friendly agricultural products were extracted from all measurements with a KMO of 0.735 and a total cumulative variance of 79.373%, With regard to consumer trust, one factor was extracted with a total cumulative variance of 75.431% and a KMO score of 0.695. One factor for recommendation intention was extracted that accounted for a total cumulative variance of 68.428% and a KMO score of 0.694. All factors were significant to .000 and the correlation between variables was significant. Thus, based on the results, the main research hypotheses that identify the relationships between selection criteria, consumer trust and recommendation retention were adopted.

Evaluation of Physicians' Perception of Patient Safety Incidents Including Disclosure Utilizing Hypothetical Clinical Vignettes

  • Purpose:We investigated physicians' responses to a series of clinical vignettes consisting of patient safety incidents, with and without disclosure of patient safety incidents (DPSI). Methods: An anonymous survey was conducted to investigate physicians' responses to the DPSI via online communities of physicians, and additional participants were recruited using a snowballing sampling method. We evaluated physicians' responses to the DPSI using eight hypothetical scenarios (HS) from the following perspectives: thoughts regarding medical errors, revisiting the physician, recommendation, lawsuit, criminal prosecution, trust score, and compensation amounts. We used the chi-square test to evaluate the overall differences in response rates among the scenarios. Statistical analyses were performed using the Student's t-test to compare the trust scores and compensation amounts. Results: A total of 910 physicians participated in this survey. An overall comparison of trust scores among HS showed that HS 1 (unclear medical errors, minor harm, and DPSI) had the highest trust score. In contrast, in the opposite scenario, HS 8 (clear medical errors, major harm, and DPSI not conducted) received the lowest scores. Cases with minor harm to patients (HS 1, 2, 5, and 6) showed lower compensation amounts than the others (HS 3, 4, 7, and 8). Physicians were more likely to think of situations with DPSI as not having medical errors (53.1% vs. 55.2%). In addition, the scenarios with DPSI were evaluated favorably in terms of intention to revisit, recommend, suit, and engage in criminal proceedings. Physicians showed higher trust scores (6.2 vs 5.4) and gave lower compensation amounts ($27.7 million vs $28.1 million), although there was no significant difference in terms of compensation amounts to the physician conducting DPSI. Conclusion: Our study showed overall positive perceptions regarding DPSI among Korean physicians.
