In general, static firing test is conducted before flight in order to obtain data such as thrust. pressure, temperature and strain, which show the characteristics of rocket motors. But the measured thrust of the obtained data is especially distorted by the effects of dynamic characteristics of thrust stand so that it is difficult for us to determine the exact value of peak thrust and rising time etc., which represent the performance of rocket motor. This paper, therefore. verified the causes of distortion of measured thrust, and proposed the theoretical method to estimate the true thrust from the distorted thrust. And also the proposed method was applied to virtual thrust stand using computer simulation, and showed good result. As a result of that, the proposed method was proven to be valid and applicable to estimate distorted thrust.

PolyJet technology is an additive manufacturing (AM) technology commonly used for modeling, prototyping, and production applications. It is one of the techniques used for 3D printing. The PolyJet technique is a process that joins materials to fabricate a product from 3D CAD data in a layer-by-layer manner. The orientation of a layer can affect the mechanical properties of the product manufactured by the PolyJet technique because of its anisotropy. In this paper, tensile and shearing tests of specimens were developed with the PolyJet technique in order to study the mechanical properties according to the orientation of a layer. The mechanical properties of the specimens were determined on the basis of true stress-strain curves from tensile and shearing tests. In addition, the tensile and shearing tests were simulated under the same conditions as those of experiment, and the experiment and simulated results were compared. Through this study, the fracture criteria could be established.
Fusarium verticillioides (teleomorph Gibberella moniliformis) is associated with maize worldwide causing ear rot and stalk rot, and produces fumonisins, a group of mycotoxins detrimental to humans and animals. While research tools are available, our understanding of the molecular mechanisms associated with fungal virulence and fumonisin biosynthesis in F. verticillioides is still limited. One of the restraints that hampers F. verticillioides gene characterization is the fact that homologous recombination (HR) frequency is very low (<2%). Screening for a true gene knock-out mutant is a laborious process due to a high number of ectopic integrations. In this study, we generated a F. verticillioides mutant (SF41) deleted for FvKU70, a gene directly responsible for non-homologous end-joining mechanism, with the aim of improving HR frequency. Here, we demonstrate that FvKU70 deletion does not impact key Fverticillioides phenotypes, e.g., development, secondary metabolism, and virulence, while dramatically improving HR frequency. Significantly, we also confirmed that a high percentage (>85%) of the HR mutant strains harbor a desired mutation with no additional copy of the mutant allele inserted in the genome. We conclude that SF41 is suitable for use as a type strain when performing high-throughput gene function studies in F. verticillioides.

An integrated fatigue strength assessment system was computerized. The system developed consists of 9 modules: user interface, cycle counting, load history construction, data searching, fatigue properties estimation, fatigue data analysis, true stress and strain analysis, expert system for crack initiation life prediction, fatigue crack initiation and propagation life prediction. Fatigue strength database also was included in this system. The fatigue expert system helps a beginner to predict a fatigue crack initiation life in fatigue strength assessment. The expert system module in this system is developed on the personal computer by using C language and UNiK, an expert system developing tool. To evaluate the system, the results of test under variable loading of SAE and failure data from a field were analyzed. The evaluation show that the system provided fatigue life prediction within 3-scatter band and gave reasonable predictions. To get more accurate predictions of fatigue life without fatigue properties, we recommend utilizing the system along with the fatigue strength database.
Titanium aluminides have attracted special interest as light-weight/high-temperature materials for structural applications. The major problem limiting practical use of these compounds is their poor ductility and formability. The powder metallurgy processing route has been an attractive alternative for such materials. A mixture of Ti and Al elemental powders was fabricated to a mechanical alloying process. The processed powder was hot pressed in a vacuum, and a fully densified compact with ultra-fine grain structure consisting of Ti3Al intermetallic compound was obtained. During the compressive deformation of the compact at 1173 K, typical dynamic recrystallization (DR), which introduces a certain extent of grain refinement, was observed. The compact had high density and consisted of an ultra-fine equiaxial grain structure. Average grain diameter was 1.5 ㎛. Typical TEM micrographs depicting the internal structure of the specimen deformed to 0.09 true strain are provided, in which it can be seen that many small recrystallized grains having no apparent dislocation structure are generated at grain boundaries where well-developed dislocations with high density are observed in the neighboring grains. The compact showed a large m-value such as 0.44 at 1173 K. Moreover, the grain structure remained equiaxed during deformation at this temperature. Therefore, the compressive deformation of the compact was presumed to progress by superplastic flow, primarily controlled by DR.

Fatigue life and notch sensitivity of the ultrafine grained pure Ti produced by ECAP was investigated. The ECAPed sample with the true strain of 460$\%$ showed near equiaxed grains with an average size of about 0.3 $\mu$m. After ECAP, the ultimate tensile strength was increased by 60$\%$, while the tensile ductility was decreased by 31$\%$. The ECAPed ultrafine grained pure Ti samples showed high notch sensitivity and significant improvement of high cycle fatigue limit by a factor of 1.67. The ECAPed samples also show high notch sensitivity (K$_{f}$/K$_{t}$ = 0.96). It can be concluded that ECAP is the effective process for achieving high fatigue strength in Ti by increasing its tensile strength through grain refinement
The effect of particle breakage and intermediate principal stress ratio on the behaviour of crushable granular assemblies under true triaxial stress conditions is studied using the discrete element method. Numerical results show that the increase of intermediate principal stress ratio $b(b=({\sigma}_2-{\sigma}_3)/({\sigma}_1-{\sigma}_3))$ results in the increase of dilatancy at low confining pressures but the decrease of dilatancy at high confining pressures, which stems from the distinct increasing compaction caused by breakage with b. The influence of b on the evolution of the peak apparent friction angle is also weakened by particle breakage. For low relative breakage, the relationship between the peak apparent friction angle and b is close to the Lade-Duncan failure model, whereas it conforms to the Matsuoka-Nakai failure model for high relative breakage. In addition, the increasing tendency of relative breakage, calculated based on a fractal particle size distribution with the fractal dimension being 2.5, declines with the increasing confining pressure and axial strain, which implies the existence of an ultimate graduation. Finally, the relationship between particle breakage and plastic work is found to conform to a unique hyperbolic correlation regardless of the test conditions.

A fifth equation is required to determine the five independent elastic constants of a transversely isotropic rock from compression test of a single specimen. As an approximation proposed by Saint-Venant has been used for long time, it may cause an erroneous result in some cases, especially for specimen with low angle of anisotropy. Three equations were suggested replacing this traditional equation and proved to be applicable by the model analysis in the previous studies. As Saint-Venant's approximation is turned out the same as the first one of them, it has the characteristics that the apparent Young's modulus is monotonously increasing according to the anisotropic angle. The methodology to analyze the elastic constants from four independent strain measurements by uniaxial compressive test of a single standard specimen is concisely described, and the necessity and compatibility of new suggested equations are discussed. Saint-Venant's approximation can determine the elastic constants close to true values and other equations may be unnecessary in specimens with medium to large angle. Nevertheless, they may become applicable because they can produce the almost same amount. For the specimens of small angle of anisotropy, Saint-Venant's approximation may result in out of general ranges or thermodynamic constraints, but other suggested equations can produce the almost true value. Thus they can be applied before other alternative equation is known. The guide map constructed by model study may decide the most compatible one of the three equations.
For the same configuration of two-dimensional finite element models, 6-node element exhibits stiffer bending stiffness than 8-node element. This is true in the relation between 16-node element and 20-node element for three-dimensional model. This stiffening phenomenon comes from the elimination of several mid nodes from full-node elements. Therefore, this may be called 'relative stiffness stiffening phenomenon'. It seems that there are a couple of ways to correct the stiffening effect, however, we could find only one effective method-the method of modification of Gauss sampling points-which passes the patch test and does not alter other kinds of stiffness, such as extensional stiffness. The quantity of modification is a function of Poisson's ratios of the constituent materials. We could obtain two modification equations, one for plane stress case and the other for plane strain case. This method can be extended to 3-dimensional solid elements. Except the exact plane strain cases, most 3-dimensional plates could be modeled successfully with 16-node element modified by the equation for the plane stress case. The effectiveness of the modification method is checked by applying it to several examples with excellent improvements. In numerical examples, beams with various boundary conditions are subjected to static and time-dependent loads. Free and forced motion analyses of beams and plates are also tested. The beam and plate may be composed of isotropic multilayers as well as a single layer.

In this study, a new simple method for the estimation of hyperelastic material properties by indentation tests is proposed. Among hyperelastic material models, the Yeoh model with three material properties ($C_{10}$, $C_{20}$, $C_{30}$) is adopted to describe the strain energy density in terms of strain invariants. Finite element simulations of the spherical indentation of hyperelastic materials of the Yeoh model with different material properties are performed to establish a database of indentation force-displacement curves. The indentation force-displacement curves are fitted by cubic polynomials, which are approximated as a product of third-order polynomials of ($C_{10}$, $C_{20}$, $C_{30}$). A regression analysis is conducted to determine the coefficients of the equations for the indentation force-displacement curve approximations. A regression equation is used to estimate the hyperelastic material properties. The present method is verified by comparing the estimated material properties with true values.
