Identifying and Exploiting Trustable Users with Robust Features in Online Rating Systems

  • When purchasing an online product, a customer tends to be influenced strongly by its reputation, the aggregation of other customers' ratings on it. The reputation, however, is not always trustable since it can be manipulated easily by attackers who intentionally give unfair ratings to their target products. In this paper, we first address identifying trustable users who tend to give fair ratings to products in online rating systems and then propose a method of computing true reputation of a product by aggregating only those trustable users' ratings. In order to identify the trustable users, we list some candidate features that seem related significantly to the trustworthiness of users and verify the robustness of each of the features through extensive experiments. By finding and exploiting these robust features, we are able to identify trustable users and to compute true reputation effectively and efficiently based on fair ratings of those trustable users.

The Promotive Direction the International Cooperation in Telecommunications (전기통신의 국제협력의 증진방향)

  • Nowadays, The function of telecommunication contributes to maintaining the peace of the world, and the international cooperation in the communication field can not be emphasized too much. The pioneers in telecommunication field dvoted their lives to the infinite love for humanity. However, the modern communication system in our country was initiated, in the later part of the Lee-Dynasty, not for the international cooperation but for the invasive avarices of the neighbouring nations such as Japan and China. The true international cooperation should be based on the love of humanity and the peace of the world such as the pioneers'. This paper proposes to resarch the historic process of initiation and development of the international organs relating to telecommunication as well as the international telecommunication network. Finally, I will make the following suggestions for the promotive direction of the true international cooperation. 1. Intensification of the radio administrative power. 2. Promotion of the international cooperation on the man-power and economy in telecommunication field. 3. Establishment and adjustment of research institutes of telecommunication. 4. Promotion of space communications. 5. Establishment of the world telecommunication network for world-wide peace.

Two optimal threshold criteria for ROC analysis

  • Among many optimal threshold criteria from ROC curve, the closest-to-(0,1) and amended closest-to-(0,1) criteria are considered. An ROC curve that passes close to the (0,1) point indicates that two models are well classified. In this case, the ROC curve is located far from the (1,0) point. Hence we propose two criteria: the farthest-to-(1,0) and amended farthest-to-(1,0) criteria. These criteria are found to have a relationship with the KolmogorovSmirnov statistic as well as some optimal threshold criteria. Moreover, we derive that a definition for the proposed criteria with more than two dimensions and with relations to multi-dimensional optimal threshold criteria.

  • This is case report of true class III malocclusion with macroglossia is corrected by glossectomy in 13 years female patient. After orthodontic treatment, the patient is bound to glossectomy because the corrected condition is relapsed to the previous condition due to relatively enlarged tongue compared with the original dental arch. By the interpretation of the cephalogram and model analysis, it is approved that the growth pattern and direction are normal range and mandible is located anterioly to the cranium. The results are follows: 1. We could treat the true Cl III malocclusion. 2. We could prevent the relapse of the treated condition by the surgical intervention, such as partial glossectomy. 3. Sensory, speech, swallowing and so other functions after the operation have been with in normal limit without any serious complications or seguellae.

  • Super In Plane Switching (S-IPS) technology is applied for large TFT-LCD panels used in TV applications. It has a lot of advantages in comparison to the alternative, VA technology. S-IPS shows excellent viewing angle properties and fast response time between intermediate gray levels. If the performance parameters which describe the actual visual performance are considered, S-IPS is much more advantageous.$^{1)}$ However, it shows relatively low contrast ratio in diagonal direction compared to viewing angle characteristic in upper/down direction in S-IPS. In order to compensate the relatively low diagonal contrast ratio, a newly designed optical film was applied and the truly wide view angle of a S-IPS TW(True Wide)-IPS) was achieved. Semiparametric mixture of experts with unspecified gate network

  • The traditional mixture of experts (ME) modeled the gate network using a certain parametric function. However, if the assumed parametric function does not properly reflect the true nature, the prediction strength of ME would become weak. For example, the parametric ME often uses logistic or multinomial logistic models for the network model. However, this could be very misleading if the true nature of the data is quite different from those models. Although, in this case, we may develop more flexible parametric models by extending the model at hand, we will never be free from such misspecification problems. In order to alleviate such weakness of the parametric ME, we propose to use the semi-parametric mixture of experts (SME) in which the gate network is estimated in a non-parametrical way. Based on this, we compared the performance of the SME with those of ME and neural networks via several simulation experiments and real data examples.

  • This paper designs an integrated navigation system that uses the signals from both GPS satellites and pseudolites. While GPS satellite clocks are synchronized, pseudolite clocks are not exactly synchronized even though pseudolite can use 1PPS signal from the GPS receiver. This can cause large range error and can be solved by transmitting the correction information. Assuming that the positions of pseudolites are known, it is possible to determine the true range between two pseudolites.   • FCM(Fuzzy Cognitive Map) is proposed for representing causal reasoning. Its structure allows systematic causal reasoning through a forward inference. Authors have already proposed a diagnostic system based on FCM to utilized to identify the true origin of fault by on-line pattern diagnosis. In FCM based fault diagnosis, Temporal Associative Memories (TAM) recall of FCM is utilized to identify the true origin of fault by on-line pattern match where predicted pattern sequences obtained from TAM recall of fault FCM models are compared with actually observed ones. In engineering processes, the propagation delays are induced by the dynamics of processes and may vary with variables involved. However, disregarding such propagation delays in FCM-based fault diagnosis may lead to erroneous diagnostic results. To solve the problem, a concept of FTCM(Fuzzy Time Cognitive Map) is introduced into FCM-based fault diagnosis in this work. Expecially, translation method of FTCM makes it possible to diagnose the fault for some discrete time. Simulation studies through two-tank system is carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed diagnostic scheme.

  • Effects of circumferentially local wall thinning on the fracture behavior of pipes were investigated by monotonic four-point bending. Local wall thinning was machined on the pipes in order to simulate erosion/corrosion metal loss. The configurations of the eroded area included an eroded ratio of d/t= 0.2, 0.5, 0.6, and 0.8, and an eroded length of ${\ell}\;=10mm,$ 25mm, and 120mm. Fracture type could be classified into ovalization, local buckling, and crack initiation depending on the eroded length and eroded ratio. Three-dimensional elasto-plastic analyses were also carried out using the finite element method, which is able to accurately simulate fracture behaviors excepting failure due to cracking. It was possible to predict the crack initiation point by estimating true fracture ductility under multi-axial stress conditions at the center of the thinned area.

  • A new four-node degenerated shell element with drilling degrees of freedom (DOF) is proposed. Allman-type displacement approximation is incorporated into the formulation of degenerated shell elements. The approximation improves in-plane performance and eliminates singularities of system matrices resulted from DOF deficiency. Transverse shear locking is circumvented by introducing assumed covariant shear strains. Two kinds of penalty energy are considered in the formulation for the purpose of suppressing spurious modes and representing true drilling rotations. The proposed element can be applied to almost all kinds of shell problems including composite laminated shell structures and folded shell structures. Numerical examples show that the element is of good accuracy and of reasonably fast convergence rate.
