  • Tumuli located in Chodang-dong in Kangreung City are sitesexcavated by the Museum of Kangreung University in 1993.Ofthese sites, a gilt bronze crown and gilt bronze sword with ring pommel with a tri-leaf ornament were excavated from the B-16tumulus. Underneath the gilt bronze crown was the gilt bronzes word with ring pommel with tri-leaf ornament, and these artifacts were treated with Polyurethane foams on the spot followed by special measures for conservation. This manuscript describes measures for conservation andanalysis with regard to the gilt bronze crown, gilt bronze sword with ring pommel with tri-leaf ornament and gilt bronze beltornaments. Bronze on the gilt bronze crown was completely corroded, therefore it was consolidated together with soil in the back of the artifact with Paraloid B72 after cleaning. Polyurethanefoams bottom was finished by applying the mixture of Epoxy resinAW106 and HV935K with soil. On the sword with ring pommel, the wooden part of the hilt was coated with Paraloid B72 (in Xylene) and the blade was consolidated with Paraloid NAD-10 30% after desalting with Sodium sesquicarbonate method. The gilt bronzebelt ornaments were treated with 3% Benzotriazole, coated with Paraloid B72 and then joined by using Cyanlacrylate. Specimens for the gilt bronze crown and gilt bronze belt ornaments were produced and gilding layers were examined under a metallographic microscope. The gilt bronze crown and the gilt bronze belt ornament maintained relatively good gilding quality with uniform gilding layers. Analysis of wood for the sheath of the sword with ring pommel revealed it to be Juglans mandshurica. Further more, analysis of constituents for a blue colored grassbead from dissolution of Polyurethane foams found it to be from the $Na_2O$-CaO-$AI_2O_3$-$SiO_2$ family.

  • It was observed that the friction coefficient decreased with increasing Si concentration in the l ilms. Furthermore, the friction behavior became more s때ble even when very small amount of S Si of less than 0.5 at. % was incorporatA:회 By analyzing the composition of the debris f formed, we could show that the low and stabilized friction coefficient is in마nately relatA:었 w with the formation of the Si rich oxide debris. These result supports the mechanism that the h hydrated silica debris is the reason for low friction coefficient in humid environment. Second e evidence of the role of Si rich oxide debris could be found in the triOO-chemical reactions d during initial stage of triho-test. When the Si concen$\sigma$ation was less than 5 at.%, initial t transient period of high friction coefficient was commonly observed. Mter the transient period, m the friction coefficient becomes lower with increasing contact cycles. The initial $\sigma$ansient p peri여 becomes shorter and the starting and maximum friction coefficients in $\sigma$ansient 야,riod d decreased with increasing Si concentration. Composition of the debris on the wear scar s surface was analyzed by Auger spe따'Oscopy at v뼈ous stages in the initial transient period. W We observed that when the friction coefficient increased in earlier stage of the $\sigma$'ansient p period, iron and oxygen was observed in the debris. However, decrease in the 당iction c coefficient in the later stage of the transient period was associated with the formation of s silicon rich oxide debris. This result also supports the friction mechanism of Si-DLC films t that the formation of Si rich oxide debris results in low friction coefficient in ambient a atmosphere. atmosphere.

  • TRISO(tri-isotropic)-coated fuel particle technology is utilized owing to its higher stability at a high temperature and Its efficient retention capability for fission products In the HTGR(high temperature gas-reeled reactor). The typical spherical TRISO fuel panicle with a diameter of about 1mm is composed of a nuclear fuel kernel and outer coating layers. The outer coating layers consist of a buffer PyC(pyrolytic carbon) layer, Inner PyC(1-PyC) layer, SiC layer, and outer PyC(O-PyC) layer Most of the Inspection Items for the TRTSO-coated fuel particle depend on destructive methods. The coating thickness of the TRISO fuel particle can be nondestructively measured by the X-ray radiography without generating radioactive wastel. In this study, the coaling thickness for the simulated TRISO-coated fuel particle with $ZrO_2$ kernel Instead of $%UO_2$ kernel was measured by using micro-focus X-ray radiography with micro-focus X-ray generator and flat panel detector The radiographic image was also enhanced by image processing technique to acquire clear boundary lines between coating layers. The coaling thickness wat effectively measured by applying the micro-focus X-ray radiography The inspection process for the TRISO-coated fuel particles will be improved by the developed micro-focus X-ray radiography and digital image processing technology.

  • Four kinds of silicon nitride composites with tri-laminate structure were prepared by stacking tapes with aligned ${\beta}-Si_3N_4$ whisker seeds. The composites were fabricated using a modified tape casting method for enhanced alignment of the whisker seeds. The relative densities of all four samples reached 99% at room temperature. The three-point flexural strengths of the samples according to the stacking sequences were measured at both room temperature and 1723 K. The high temperature strength of sample WWW was $457{\pm}14$ MPa. The fracture of sample WWW occurred mainly along the grain boundary. The room temperature strengths of samples OOO, OWO, WOW, and WWW were $430{\pm}32$ MPa, $470{\pm}19$ MPa, $700{\pm}14$MPa, and $940{\pm}14$ MPa, respectively.

  • The packaging of the integrated circuits requires knowledge of ceramics and metals to accommodate the fabrication of modules that are used to construct subsystems and entire systems from extremely small components. Composite ceramics (Al$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$) were tested for substrates. A stress analysis was conducted for a linear work-hardening metal cylinder embedded in an infinite ceramic matrix. The bond between the metal and ceramic was established at high temperature and stresses developed during cooling to room temperature. The calculations showed that the stresses depend on the mismatch in thermal expansion, the elastic properties, and the yield strength and work hardening rate of the metal. Experimental measurements of the surface stresses have also been made on a Cu/Al$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$ceramic system, using an indentation technique. A comparison revealed that the calculated stresses were appreciably larger than the measured surface stresses, indicating an important difference between the bulk and surface residual stresses. However, it was also shown that porosity in the metal could plastically expand and permit substantial dilatational relaxation of the residual stresses. Conversely it was noted that pore clusters were capable of initiating ductile rupture, by means of a plastic instability, in the presence of appreciable tri-axiality. The role of ceramics for packaging of microelectronics will continue to be extremely challenging.

  • The interaction of -$Al(CH_3)_2$ with -OH on a fully OH-terminated Si (001) surface was studied using density functional theory. Two sites for $Al(CH_3)_3$ to react with the -OH on the surface were identified. The $-Al(CH_3)_2$ product energetically favored the dimer-row site rather than the inter-row site because the Al atom of $-Al(CH_3)_2$ at the dimer-row site was attracted by the lone pair electrons of the O atom in the neighboring -OH. The energy barrier for the transfer of the $-Al(CH_3)_2$ between the two sites was 0.11 eV, and therefore, the $-Al(CH_3)_2$ at the inter-row site can easily transfer to the dimer-row site at room temperature.

  • Tri-isotropic (TRISO) coatings on zirconia surrogate beads are deposited using a fluidized-bed vapor deposition (FB-CVD) method. The silicon carbide layer is particularly important among the coated layers because it acts as a miniature pressure vessel and a diffusion barrier to gaseous and metallic fission products in the TRISO-coated particles. In this study, we obtain a nearly stoichiometric composition in the SiC layer coated at $1400^{\circ}C$, $1500^{\circ}C$, and $1400^{\circ}C$ with 20 vol.% methyltrichlorosilane (MTS), However, the composition of the SiC layer coated at $1300-1350^{\circ}C$ shows a difference from the stoichiometric ratio (1:1). The density decreases remarkably with decreasing SiC deposition temperature because of the nanosized pores. The high density of the SiC layer (${\geq}3.19g/cm^2$) easily obtained at $1500^{\circ}C$ and $1400^{\circ}C$ with 20 vol.% MTS did not change at an annealing temperature of $1900^{\circ}C$, simulating the reactor operating temperature. The evaluation of the mechanical properties is limited because of the inaccurate values of hardness and Young's modulus measured by the nano-indentation method.

  • In this study solid-phase sintered silicon caribide samples composed of SiC powder having boron and car-bon black as additives were prepared by pressureless sintering at $1950^{\circ}C$. The bending strength the frac-ture toughness and the specific werar rate of the samples were examined and the micro structures of the broken and the worn surface were observed by SEM to understand the relationship between the tri-bological charcteristics and the micro structure. Additionally the relationship between the micro struc-tures and the tribological characteristics of the samples for the frictional opponents SiC and $Al_{2}O_{3}$ pins were investigated Conclusions are as follows ; 1. The specific were rate of the samples for the SiC pin was larger than that for the $Al_{2}O_{3}$ pin. HOwever the specific wear rate for the $Al_{2}O_{3}$ pin was increased about 6,45 times as that for the SiC pin under the load increasing. 2. The specific wear rate of the SiC pin was larger than that of the $Al_{2}O_{3}$ pin. owever the specific wear rate of the $Al_{2}O_{3}$ pin was increased about 4 times as that of the SiC pin under the load increasing 3. The micro stucture of the worn surface showed a flat face without cracks in the case that the frictional opponents has the low friction coefficient but in the case of without cracks in the case that the frictional opponents has the low friction coefficient but in the case of the high friction coefficient the micro structure of the worn surface showed an uneven face having spread-ed cracks. 4. The tribological characteristics of thesolid-phase sintered SiC samples was similar to that of li-quid-phase sintered ones when the pin having the high friction coefficient was used.

  • The purpose of the study is to develop and validate landslide susceptibility map of Bhotang village development committee, Nepal using FR (Frequency Ration) and SI (Statistical Index) methods. For the purpose, firstly, a landslide inventory map was constructed based on mainly high resolution satellite images available in Google Earth Pro, and rest fieldwork as verification. Secondly, ten conditioning factors of landslide occurrence, namely: altitude, slope, aspect, mean topographic wetness index, landcover, normalized difference vegetation index, dominant soil, distance to river, distance to lineaments and rainfall, were derived and used for the development of landslide susceptibility map in GIS (Geographic Information System) environment. The landslide inventory of total 116 landslides was divided randomly such that 70% were used for training and remaining 30% for validating result by receiver operating characteristics curve analysis. The area under the curve were found to be greater than 0.7 indicating an acceptable susceptibility maps obtained using FR and SI methods in GIS for hilly region of Nepal.
