Two cultivars which are glutinous (Hawcheongchalbyeo) and non-glutinous (Hawcheongbyeo) near isogenic line of rice, were used for this study. The objective of this experiment was to gain the basic information for increasing grain yield of waxy rice by means of source and sink size control. In both Hwacheongbyeo and Hawcheongchalbyeo, the trend of decrease in total and average spikelet weight was ranked as follows; removal of penultimate leaf< removal of flag leaf< removal of flag leaf and 3ya leaf from the top < removal of flag leaf and penultimate leaf < removal of flag leaf, penultimate leaf, and 3rd leaf from the top. The reduction yale of total and average spikelet weight per panicle of Hwacheongbyeo was higher than those of Hwacheongchalbyeo according to the removal of flag leaf, penultimate leaf, and 3rd leaf from the top. In both cultivars, high-density grain ratio and grain filling ratio of the primary branches were higher Hun those of the secondary branches by leaf clipping treatment. The spikelet number and total spikelet weight per pinicle in both Hwacheongbyeo and Hwacheongchalbyeo were decreased by removal of spikelets on branches compared with control, whereas average spikelet weight and grain filling ratio were increased. The increase rate of average spikelet weight of Hwacheongchalbyeo was much higher than that of Hwacheongbyeo by sink size control. High-density grain ratio by removal of spikelets on branches was higher in Hwacheongchalbyeo, but filled grain ratio was higher in Hwacheongbyeo.

This study was carried out to get the basic data for safflower cultivation according to sowing date by growth analysis for 2 years form 2003 to 2004 at Institute of natural product in Uiseong, G.B.A.R.E.S.. Safflower(Cheongsoo cultivar) was seeded at March 1st, April 1st, May 1st, and July 1st in field. The necessary date for germination was 24 days, when safflower was seeded at March 1st, but it was 8 days which sowed at April 1st and when the seed was sowed at high temperature period, the necessary date for germination was getting short. The necessary date for flowering was the same trend as germination; it took 104 days at March 1st, 79 days at April 1st, 65 days at May 1st, and 58 days at July 1st sowing treatment. The safflower growth was the most vigor when it was sowed at March 1st. T/R(Top/Root) ratio was gently increased during growing season, but when the seed was sowed at July 1 st, it was low compare to sowing at March 1st and April 1st. RGR(Relative growth rate) was the highest during shoot growth stage, but it was rapidly decreased after flowering. CGR(Crop growth rate) was increased at branching stage, and the increasing velocity was slightly decreased just before flowering, and it was increased again at flowering and at this stage, CGR was the highest, and then it did not increased. NAR(Net assimilation rate) was the highest at shoot growth stage during growing season, and was the highest which was sowed at March 1st.
The purpose of this study was to assess the fatigue in lumbar and abdominal muscles in patients with chronic low back pain compared with normal subjects using spectral analysis with mean power frequency and median power frequency. The experimental group consisted of twenty subjects who had experienced chronic low back pain for over one year after the onset day. A control group consisted of twenty normal subjects with no history of low back pain. All subjects stood in an apparatus to perform sustained contraction in the lumbar and abdominal muscles for 30 seconds with 60% maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC). The resulting electromyographic (EMG) recorded time serial data were transformed into frequency serial data by Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT). The results were as follows: 1) lumbar muscles measured, the frequency change ratio of both median power frequency and mean power frequency was significantly greater for experimental group compared with control group group (p<0.05). In measured two abdominal muscles (inferior rectus abdominis, obliquus externus abdominis) except superior rectus abdominis, the frequency change ratio of both median power frequency and mean power frequency was significantly greater for experimental group compared with control group (p<0.05). 2) In all three (longissimus thoracis, iliocostalis lumborum, multifidus) lumbar muscles measured, the initial frequency value of both median power frequency and mean power frequency was significantly lower for the experimental group compared with the control group (p<0.05). In the two (inferior rectus abdominis, obliquus externus abdominis) abdominal muscles measured (superior rectus abdominis not included), the initial frequency value of both median power frequency and mean power frequency was significantly lower for the experimental group compared with the control group (p<0.05). These results suggest that in patients with chronic low back pain there is a trend for more fatigue to occur in both lumbar and abdominal muscles than in the normal control group. This would seem to suggest that in treatment programs for patients with chronic low back pain, improvement of endurance in all trunk muscles should be considered.
As a novel approach for disease control and prevention, nutritional modulation of the intestinal health has been proved. However, It is still unknown whether branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) is needed to maintain intestinal immune-related function. The objective of this study was to determine whether BCAA supplementation in protein restricted diet affects growth performance, intestinal barrier function and modulates post-weaning gut disorders. One hundred and eight weaned piglets ($7.96{\pm}0.26kg$) were randomly fed one of the three diets including a control diet (21% crude protein [CP], CON), a protein restricted diet (17% CP, PR) and a BCAA diet (BCAA supplementation in the PR diet) for 14 d. The growth performance, plasma amino acid concentrations, small intestinal morphology and intestinal immunoglobulins were tested. First, average daily gain (ADG) (p<0.05) and average daily feed intake (ADFI) (p<0.05) of weaned pigs in PR group were lower, while gain:feed ratio was lower than the CON group (p<0.05). Compared with PR group, BCAA group improved ADG (p<0.05), ADFI (p<0.05) and feed:gain ratio (p<0.05) of piglets. The growth performance data between CON and BCAA groups was not different (p>0.05). The PR and BCAA treatments had a higher (p<0.05) plasma concentration of methionine and threonine than the CON treatment. The level of some essential and functional amino acids (such as arginine, phenylalanine, histidine, glutamine etc.) in plasma of the PR group was lower (p<0.05) than that of the CON group. Compared with CON group, BCAA supplementation significantly increased BCAA concentrations (p<0.01) and decreased urea concentration (p<0.01) in pig plasma indicating that the efficiency of dietary nitrogen utilization was increased. Compared with CON group, the small intestine of piglets fed PR diet showed villous atrophy, increasing of intra-epithelial lymphocytes (IELs) number (p<0.05) and declining of the immunoglobulin concentration, including jejunal immunoglobulin A (IgA) (p = 0.04), secreted IgA (sIgA) (p = 0.03) and immunoglobulin M (p = 0.08), and ileal IgA (p = 0.01) and immunoglobulin G (p = 0.08). The BCAA supplementation increased villous height in the duodenum (p<0.01), reversed the trend of an increasing IELs number. Notably, BCAA supplementation increased levels of jejunal and ileal immunoglobulin mentioned above. In conclusion, BCAA supplementation to protein restricted diet improved intestinal immune defense function by protecting villous morphology and by increasing levels of intestinal immunoglobulins in weaned piglets. Our finding has the important implication that BCAA may be used to reduce the negative effects of a protein restricted diet on growth performance and intestinal immunity in weaned piglets.
Today's orthodontic treatment goals lie in functional esthetics, and the importance of the latter is increasing gradually in trend. Considering such, study on growth and development of soft as well as hard tissues becomes inevitable. Early studies emphasize mainly on skeletal analysis using cephalometric data. However, more recent studies report that maxillofacial soft tissue, which plays a critical role in determining facial esthetics, is influenced by underlying hard tissue, and yet close relationship between them was not noticed. Cephalometric x-rays were taken of 137 Korean boys and 106 girls with no systemic disease, fair developmental status and normal occlusion for two consecutive years; afterwards, soft tissue analysis, which was divided into four parts, facial form lip position & posture, nose, and thickness, was done to correlate them with general growth.
Various biometerials have been researched and have been developed for treatment of some disease through transplantation to body. They have been evaluated by in vitro cytotoxicity test using some skin-derived cell lines for prediction of their biocompatibility in vivo. However, the results of experiments using mesenchymal or epithelial cells could not be considered in vivo immune reaction. In this study, we evaluated the biomaterial-elution (elute from high density polyethylene film) using some cell lines (L929, Jurkat, U937) in vitro, and then that results were compared with in vivo results from guinea pig sensitization test. In sensitization test, saline and elution of syringe could not induce erythema, but only DNCB (hypersensitive chemical) induce erythema at guinea pig sensitization test. In cell experiment, the cytotoxicity results of inflammatory cells (Jurkat; T lymphocyte, U937; monocyte) was no difference with L929 (fibroblast) in the overall trend. However, inflammatory cell lines were only secreted inflammatory cytokine (TNF-${\alpha}$, INF-${\gamma}$) in some materials (biomateriallution, FAC, DNCB). And the biomaterial-elution did not have toxicity to the cells, but it induced the inflammatory cytokines in inflammatory cell lines only. So, we were predicted inflammatory reaction through the cytokine resultes of inflammatory cell lines, and it was more correlated with in vivo results than cytotoxicity test. Therefore, we suggested that the inflammatory cytokine assay using inflammatory cell lines are more effective method in vitro for evaluation of biocompatibility of biomaterials or chemicals.
It is known that as many as 1 in 91 children are diagnosed with an autistic spectrum disorder, and the incidence rate of the autistic spectrum disorder is much higher than that of cancer in Korea. It is necessary to develop a novel technology to sense their emotional status and give proper psychological diagnosis and therapy, since the children with autistic spectrum disorder usually do not express their own emotional status. This article presents the state-of-the-arts on the affective computing technologies that include recognition of emotional status through bio-sensing and virtual affective agent modeling, and then proposes a novel system architecture for diagnosis and therapy of autistic spectrum disorder. The diagnosis and therapy system of autistic spectrum disorder is composed of bio-sensing module, virtual environment module with affective agents, and haptic interface module. The architecture proposed in this paper will enhance the objectivity to diagnose autism spectrum disorders, and enable continuous treatment in daily life.

In this study, we sought to evaluate the growth characteristics and seed productivities of domestic tall fescue that were cultivated with differing combinations of drill widths and nitrogen-application rates in early spring; the examination was conducted at the National Institute of Animal Science, RDA, from 2013 to 2014. The main plots were three widths of 15 cm, 30 cm, and 45 cm, and the subplots were subject to nitrogen-application rates in early spring of 45 kg/ha, 90 kg/ha, 135 kg/ha, and 180 kg/ha. The growth and development characteristics did not vary by treatment in terms of drill width and early-spring nitrogen application. Tall fescue Purumi showed a stable seed productivity of two tons or greater when the drill width was set at 15 cm and 90 kg/ha of nitrogen was applied in early spring. The narrower the drill width, the greater the numbers of both the ears and seeds, while the length of the ear was longer when the drill width was wider. Regarding the influence of the drill width and early-spring nitrogen application on the productivity of seed-producing straw, the dry matter productivity was higher when the drill width was narrower; however, no particular trend was observed with respect to different amounts of fertilizer. The average production amount of the first round of straw after seed gathering was 6,920 kg/ha. The second round produced an average 8,134 kg/ha of dry matter.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of different stockpiled periods on the nutritive value and productivity of mixed orchardgrass tall-fescue pasture (MOTP). This experiment was conducted at Jeju (island), South Korea, from Sep. 2012 to Nov. 2012. The DM yield of the MOTP had the highest in treatment in late August (2,983 kg/ha). The DM yields of swards were increased significantly by shortening the stockpiled period. The CP of the MOTP was 16.5% to 18.16%, and there did not appear to be a consistent trend in accordance with the duration of the stockpiled periods. The NDF and TDN content of the MOTP increased with the delay of the stockpiled periods, but there is a significant difference between the short- and long-stockpile periods; however, the ADF content of the MOTP decreased with shortened stockpile periods, but again, there is a significant difference between the two periods. In addition, P, Ca, Mg, Na, and Zn of MOTP increased by delaying the stockpile period, but Mn and Cu of MOTP decreased. As shown in the results of this research, the yield of MOTP was not increased by the atrophy of the growth of MOTP due to high temperatures in case where the MOTP was stockpiled from the beginning of August. The stockpile period of MOTP should therefore be started at the end of August to yield a stockpile of MOTP in the autumn.
The heterogeneity and complexity of malaria involves political and natural environments, socioeconomic development, cross-border movement, and vector biology; factors that cannot be changed in a short time. This study aimed to assess the impact of economic growth and cross-border movement, toward elimination of malaria in Yunnan Province during its pre-elimination phase. Malaria data during 2011-2016 were extracted from 18 counties of Yunnan and from 7 villages, 11 displaced person camps of the Kachin Special Region II of Myanmar. Data of per-capita gross domestic product (GDP) were obtained from Yunnan Bureau of Statistics. Data were analyzed and mapped to determine spatiotemporal heterogeneity at county and village levels. There were a total 2,117 malaria cases with 85.2% imported cases; most imported cases came from Myanmar (78.5%). Along the demarcation line, malaria incidence rates in villages/camps in Myanmar were significantly higher than those of the neighboring villages in China. The spatial and temporal trends suggested that increasing per-capita GDP may have an indirect effect on the reduction of malaria cases when observed at macro level; however, malaria persists owing to complex, multi-faceted factors including poverty at individual level and cross-border movement of the workforce. In moving toward malaria elimination, despite economic growth, cooperative efforts with neighboring countries are critical to interrupt local transmission and prevent reintroduction of malaria via imported cases. Cross-border workers should be educated in preventive measures through effective behavior change communication, and investment is needed in active surveillance systems and novel diagnostic and treatment services during the elimination phase.
