The geographical distribution and population density of rodents and chigger mites at six localities of Chollanam-do were investigated from October to December in 1993. Among total 142 field rodents collected by the modified Chemin wooden traps, 131 rodents were Aponemw usrari,us (92.3%) and 11 were Crocidurc losiurc (7.7%). Out of 142 field rodents, 92 were parasitized by chiggers, showing 69.0% of the infestation rate and 74.2 of the chiggor index. Infestation rate and chigger index of A. omfernrius and C. lusiurc were 73.3%, 80.4 and 18.2%, 0.5, respectively. From the trapped field rodents, 10,532 chiggers were collected and identified with 11 species of 4 genera. Leptotrombidium pcLLinun. the vector 3pecies of tsutsugamushi disease, was the dominant species, showing 8,038 chi99ers (76.31%). L. scutellnre was the second dominant species showing 1,359 chiggers (12.9%). The distribution of chigger mites was clearly localized by the species, showing the different dominant species according to localities. The predominant species was 1. scutellare (100%) in Changhung-gun, 1. scutellcre (41.5%) in Posong-gun, 1. pnllidum (88.8%) in Hwasun- gun, 1. pnLlidunl (59.2%) in Koksong-gun, 1. zetum (77.3%) in Hampyong-gun, and 1. pclpcle (63.4%) in Tamyang-gun. Regarding to the geographical distribution of chigger population density, the infestation rate and chigger index was most high in Hwasun-gun as 62.4% and 216.2 respectively, and next high in Koksong-gun as 22.4% and 77.7%, respectively.

This study was carried out to investigate the changing pattern of forest insect communities in 2013 after harvesting of forest in 2012, and provide a basic data for the method of efficient management for preservation of forest biodiversity. Five types of cutting method in pine tree forest were selected to compare the coleopteran insect communities at Hajang-myeon, Gangwon-do, Korea, in 2013. In this study, we investigated the effects of timber harvest with green-tree retention on coleopteran insects. They were sampled with Lindgren funnel traps for five experimental sites during July to October, 2013. A total of 1,112 individuals in 156 species of 40 families by Lindgren funnel traps. Also, the analysis of coleopteran insects community was performed. Although the difference of density is not prominent among the survey areas in the early stages, it was appeared a tendency to increase in density and abundance of insects in the experimented sites excluding the control areas. Among them, strip clear-cutting area showed a increase of density and abundance in this study.
Studies on the geographical distribution and the seasonal prevalence of chigger mites, with particular reference to L. paflidum, a vector species of tsutsugamushi disease were carried out during the period of July 1989-October 1990. From total 111 field rodents collected during the study period, 4,498 chiggers were obtained and 12 species of 4 genera were identified. L. paflidum, the vector species was the dorninant species, showing 65.6% of the total chiggers. L. scutellare, known as the important vector species of tsutsugamushi disease in Japan was not found in the study area, except Yesan-gun, Chungcheong-namdo where only one specimen was collected. The distribution of chigger mites was clearly localized by species, showing the different dominant species by locality. The population density of L. paflidum was high at two study areas, moderate at one area and very low at six other areas, compared to the other species. The study on seasonal prevalence of L. paflidum population density resulted that they started appearing in September (9.8%), showed the peak in October (45.4%) and November (30.6%), almost disappeared during the period of December-March (1.3-0%), reappeared in April (12.7%) showing a small peak, and again almost disappeared until September. L. palpafe was appeared only in winter and spring (December-April).
This paper is the result of adult female mosquito and larval collection in U.S. Army Installations in Korea from 1979 to 1983. New Jersey light traps were operated for adult collection from May to October. The primary concern of this surveillance is to determine when to recommend insecticide spraying for mosquito control in the Army areas. The 5th Preventive Medicine Unit have developed an "index" level of female mosquitoes in a light trap similar to other U.S. Army Agencies in other parts of the world. When 10 female mosquitoes are reached on two consecutive trap-night, or 5 known vector females are collected, fogging is recommended in the trap areas. 1. Mosquito collections were conducted in 12 U.S. Army areas by operating 39 New Jersey light traps. Mosquitoes collected from the areas were identified to be 17 species comprising 3 genera. Anopheles sinensis (40%), Culex tritaeniorhynchus (31%), Aedes vexans nipponii (19 %) and Culex pipiens pallens (10%) appeared to be the most common species in the areas. 2. The species, population density and monthly appearance of adult mosquitoes were found to be almost the same in the all provinces involved. And Japanese Encephalitis vector mosquitoes, Culex tritaeniorhynchus, showed their seasonal fluctuation from July to September with a peak in August each year. 3. Larval habitats confirmed in the Army areas were categorized into 16 types as shown in Table 3. The mosquito larvae collected in those habitats were identified to be 15 species representing 4 genera. Most breeding sites in the Army areas were those which are activated during the wet season. 4. More mosquitoes were collected from the Kyungki Province than from the other Provinces. The reason for more collection of mosquitoes from military installations in the Kyungki Province appears to be the geographic characteristics surrounded by rice fields, marshes and other stagnant water areas.

In this paper, flicker noise characteristic and channel hot carrier degradation of NMOSFETs with plasma nitrided oixde (PNO) and thermally nitrided oxide (TNO) are analyzed in depth. Compared with NMOSFET with TNO, flicker noise characteristic of NMOSFET with PNO is improved significantly because nitrogen density in PNO near the Si/$SiO_2$ interface is less than that in TNO. However, device degradation of NMOSFET with PNO by channel hot carrier stress is greater than that with TNO although PMOSFET with PNO showed greater immunity to NBTI degradation than that with TNO in previous study. Therefore, concurrent investigation of the reliability as well as low frequency noise characteristics of NMOSFET and PMOSFET is required for the development of high performance analog MOSFET technology.

Visual census and hydro-acoustic survey was carried out at Ulju small scale marine ranching area (MRA) to estimate demersal fish aggregations on September and November 2013. In this hydro-acoustic survey, the authors combined an image sonar with a scientific echo sounder to monitor an underwater situation and compare two acoustic data. Consequently, visual census survey was useful to estimate fish species composition for hydro-acoustic survey, because it is easy to identify aggregated fish species and overcome limits on a fishing depth and ability of an conventional fishing gear like a bottom gill-net or a fish trap at marine ranching area. Mean fish density was estimated as $0.757g/m^2$ on September and $0.219g/m^2$ on November and Fish abundance was finally calculated as 1.51ton (coefficient of variation, CV=13.1%) on September and 0.44ton (CV=47.7%) on November, respectively. Hydro-acoustic survey combined with the image sonar was useful to monitor fish aggregations and estimate fish stocks around artificial reefs at shallow coastal MRA. We were able to easily identify the underwater structures like an artificial reef and a fishing rope as well as fish aggregations from image sonar data. Therefore, the method was effective to separate unwanted echo signals in acoustic data of scientific echo sounder.

We evaluate the change in defects in the oxidized SiO2 grown on 4H-SiC (0001) by plasma assisted oxidation, by comparing with that of conventional thermal oxide. In order to investigate the changes in the electronic structure and electrical characteristics of the interfacial reaction between the thin SiO2 and SiC, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), DFT calculation and electrical measurements were carried out. We observed that the direct plasma oxide grown at the room temperature and rapid processing time (300 s) has enhanced electrical characteristics (frequency dispersion, hysteresis and interface trap density) than conventional thermal oxide and suppressed interfacial defect state. The decrease in defect state in conduction band edge and stress-induced leakage current (SILC) clearly indicate that plasma oxidation process improves SiO2 quality due to the reduced transition layer and energetically most stable interfacial state between SiO2/SiC controlled by the interstitial C.

InGaZnO (IGZO) thin-film transistors (TFTs) are very promising due to their potential use in high performance display backplane [1]. However, the stability of IGZO TFTs under the various stresses has been issued for the practical IGZO applications [2]. Up to now, many researchers have studied to understand the sub-gap density of states (DOS) as the root cause of instability [3]. Nomura et al. reported that these deep defects are located in the surface layer of the IGZO channel [4]. Also, Kim et al. reported that the interfacial traps can be affected by different RF-power during RF magnetron sputtering process [5]. It is well known that these trap states can influence on the performances and stabilities of IGZO TFTs. Nevertheless, it has not been reported how these defect states are created during conventional RF magnetron sputtering. In general, during conventional RF magnetron sputtering process, negative oxygen ions (NOI) can be generated by electron attachment in oxygen atom near target surface and accelerated up to few hundreds eV by self-bias of RF magnetron sputter; the high energy bombardment of NOIs generates bulk defects in oxide thin films [6-10] and can change the defect states of IGZO thin film. In this study, we have confirmed that the NOIs accelerated by the self-bias were one of the dominant causes of instability in IGZO TFTs when the channel layer was deposited by conventional RF magnetron sputtering system. Finally, we will introduce our novel technology named as Magnetic Field Shielded Sputtering (MFSS) process [9-10] to eliminate the NOI bombardment effects and present how much to be improved the instability of IGZO TFTs by this new deposition method.
The objectives of the present study were to (1) determine the susceptibility of Anopheles sinensis to Korean isolates of Plasmodium vivax, (2) establish a method to collect large quantities of P. vivax sporozoites for use as antigen in seroepidemiological studies, and (3) investigate the characteristics of Korean isolates of P. vivax sporozoites. Females of Anopheles sinensis were collected at non-epidemic area, Seokwha-ri, Cheongwon-gun and Chungcheongbuk-do using tent-trap methods coupled with dry ice. The females were artificially infected with gameiocytes of P. vivax using blood obtained from P vivax malaria patients. Individual mosquitoes were infected using either a parafilm-covered glass feeding apparatus or were allowed to feed on naturally infected volunteers. Mosquitoes were sacrificed between 16 and 18 days post-feeding and an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect sporozoites. Four (33.4%) of 12 mosquitoes, which were fed on naturally infected volunteers directly, were positive for sporozoites. In cases, the mosquitoes allowed to feed on whole blood which were extract from three different patients with heparin treated vacuutainers using a parafilm-covered glass apparatus. Two of 55 (3.6%) were positive which blood sample was maintained at room temperature for 8 hours, 1 of 68 (1.5%) was positive which blood was maintained at $4^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours and 1 of 47 (2.3%) was positive at 4$^{\circ}C$ for 48 hours. The mean number of sporozoites was estimated about 818 (n=8; range of 648-1,056) based on optical density values of ELISA.

The present study aims at the examination of the effects of 1 mol% NiO addition on the reaction, microstructure development, resultant electrical properties, and especially the bulk trap and interface state levels of $ZnO-Bi_2O_3-Sb_2O_3$ (Sb/Bi=0.5, 1.0, and 2.0) systems (ZBS). The samples were prepared by conventional ceramic process, and characterized by density, XRD, SEM, I-V, impedance and modulus spectroscopy (IS & MS) measurement. The sintering and electrical properties of Ni-doped ZBS (ZBSN) systems were controlled by Sb/Bi ratio. Pyrochlore ($Zn_2Bi_3Sb_3O_{14}$) was decomposed more than $100^{\circ}C$ lowered in ZBS (Sb/Bi=1.0) by Ni doping. The reproduction of pyrochlore was suppressed by the addition of Ni in ZBS. Between two polymorphs of $Zn_7Sb_2O_{12}$ spinel ($\alpha$ and $\beta$), microstructure of ZBSN (Sb/Bi=0.5) composed of a-spinel was more homogeneous than $Sb/Bi{\geq}1.0$ composed of $\beta$-spinel phase. In ZBSN, the varistor characteristics were not improved drastically (non-linear coefficient $\alpha\;=\;6{\sim}11$) and independent on microstructure according to Sb/Bi ratio. Doping of Ni to ZBS seemed to form ${V_0}^{\cdot}$ (0.33 eV) as dominant bulk defect. From IS & MS, especially the grain boundaries of Sb/Bi=0.5 systems were divided into two types, i.e. sensitive to oxygen and thus electrically active one and electrically inactive intergranular one with temperature.
