횡구속된 콘크리트에서 압축이음강도 (Strength of Compression Lap Splice in Confined Concrete)

  • 초고강도 콘크리트의 개발에 따라 철근 압축이음에 대한 연구 필요성이 높아지고 있다. 인장이음과 마찬가지로 압축이음에서도 이음길이와 콘크리트 강도가 가장 큰 영향인자가 되며, 다음으로 압축이음에 영향을 주는 요인으로는 횡방향 보강근과 철근 지름이다. 횡방향 보강근은 이음부에서 발생된 인장응력에 저항하며, 인장이음에서는 철근 순간격 또는 피복두께와 동일한 역할을 수행하는 것으로 평가된다. 휨부재의 인장측에 주로 적용되는 인장이음은 슬래브처럼 횡보강근이 없는 경우도 있다. 그러나 압축이음이 적용되는 부재는 높은 축력이 작용되는 수직부재로, 압축 주근의 좌굴방지, 코어 콘크리트의 구속, 그리고 전단강도의 발현을 위해 횡보강근이 배근된다. 이를 활용함으로써 보다 경제적인 설계가 가능해진다. 본 연구에서는 실제 구조물에서 필연적으로 발생되는 횡방향 보강근에 대한 압축이음의 거동과 강도 특성을 실험을 통해 규명하고자 한다.

지지면 변화에 따른 교각운동이 복횡근 두께와 균형능력에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (The Effects of Transverse Abdominis Ratio and Balance Ability during Bridge Exercises on Different Support Surface)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of transverse abdominis ratio and balance ability during bridge exercises on different support surface. Methods: The subjects were 20 students at G University. Ultrasound equipment was used to measure the transverse abdominisratio and the computerized balance measurement equipment was used to measure the balance ability before and after bridge exercises on different support surface. Results: Transverse abdominis ratio change between the groups was a significant difference only in the unstable support surface training group (p<.05). Normal standing eye close balance ability change between the groups was significantly different only in the unstable support surface training group (p<.05). The changes in the transverse abdominis ratio after 7 days of exercise and 14 days after exercise were significantly different between the groups (p<.05). Normal standing eye close balance ability showed a significant difference at 7 days after exercise and 14 days after exercise (p<.05). Conclusions: It is more effective to balance ability and ratio of the transverse abdominis when bridge exercises on an unstable support surface than to perform bridge exercises on a stable support surface. Therefore, we propose an effective program for patients with instability of the lumbar in clinical practice. bridge exercises on different support surface.

횡파를 이용한 SLAM의 분해능 개선 (Resolution Enhancement of Scanning Laser Acoustic Microscope Using Transverse Wave)

  • 기존의 Scanning Laser Acoustic Microscope (SLAM)에 횡파를 사용함으로써 분해능을 개선시키는 방법을 연구하였다. 액체-고체 경계에서는 모드 변환이 발생하여 액체에서 입사되는 종파 에너지의 일부분은 고체 시험편 내에서 횡파 에너지로 변환된다. SLAM의 분해능은 수신측의 레이저 빔 폭과 입사되는 초음파의 파장에 의하여 결정되고, 고체에서 횡파의 파장은 같은 주파수의 종파의 파장보다 짧기 때문에 횡파를 사용한다면 높은 분해능을 얻을 수 있다. 종파와 횡파를 사용하였을 때에 얻어지는 SLAM 영상을 시뮬레이션을 통하여 비교하여 횡파를 이용하면 분해능이 향상됨을 입증하였다. SLAM을 횡파 모드에서 동작시키기 위하여 입사각을 조절할 수 있는 ??지를 제작하였고, 알루미늄 시험편에 대하여 실험한 결과로부터 종파 모드 SLAM에 의한 영상보다는 횡파 모드 SLAM의 영상의 콘트라스트가 양호함을 확인하였다.

Concurrency of Guillain-Barre syndrome and acute transverse myelitis: a case report and review of literature

  • Guillain-$Barr{\acute{e}}$ syndrome and acute transverse myelitis manifest as demyelinating diseases of the peripheral and central nervous system. Concurrency of these two disorders is rarely documented in literature. A 4-year-old girl presenting with cough, fever, and an impaired walking ability was admitted to hospital. She had no previous complaints in her medical history. A physical examination revealed lack of muscle strength of the lower extremities and deep tendon reflexes. MRI could not be carried out due to technical problems; therefore, both Guillain-$Barr{\acute{e}}$ syndrome and acute transverse myelitis were considered for the diagnosis. Intravenous immunoglobulin treatment was started as first line therapy. Because this treatment did not relieve the patient's symptoms, spinal MRI was carried out on the fourth day of admission and demyelinating areas were identified. Based on the new findings, the patient was diagnosed with acute transverse myelitis, and high dose intravenous methylprednisolone therapy was started. Electromyography findings were consistent with acute polyneuropathy affecting both motor and sensory fibers. Therefore, the patient was diagnosed with concurrency of Guillain-$Barr{\acute{e}}$ syndrome and acute transverse myelitis. Interestingly, while concurrency of these 2 disorders is rare, this association has been demonstrated in various recent publications. Progress in diagnostic tests (magnetic resonance imaging and electrophysiological examination studies) has enabled clinicians to establish the right diagnosis. The possibility of concurrent Guillain-$Barr{\acute{e}}$ syndrome and acute transverse myelitis should be considered if recovery takes longer than anticipated.

횡단방향(橫斷方向) 응력파(應力波) 방법(方法)에 의(依)한 라디에타소나무의 초기부후(初期腐朽) 평가(評價) (Assessment of Incipient Decay of Radiata Pine Wood Using Stress-wave Technique in the Transverse Direction)

  • The feasibility of using stress-wave technique in the transverse direction for the assessment of early stages of decay was investigated using compression test specimens having different annual ring orientations subjected to decay by Tyromyces palustris for various time intervals. Decay detection, quantitative assessment of decay, and the prediction of residual strength of decayed wood with less than five percent weight loss can be feasible using stress-wave parameters (wave velocity, wave impedance, and stress-wave elasticity) and their percent reduction due to decay, measured by stress-wave technique in the transverse direction. The use of stress-wave technique in the transverse direction for the application of this technique to structural members in service is desirable, when considering the easiness of attachment of accelerometers of stress-wave measuring device on the surface of members and also accurate detection of localized decayed areas. In stress-wave technique in the transverse direction, stress-wave parameters measured were different according to the angles between wave propagation path and annual ring, due to the anisotropy of wood structure. Therefore, it is recommended to use percent reduction in stress-wave parameters instead of stress-wave parameters. This evaluation method using percent reduction in stress-wave parameters is ideal when it is impossible to observe annual ring orientation on the transverse surface of wood.

프리스트레스트 콘크리트 포장의 횡방향 긴장 설계방안 (Design Methodology of Transverse Post-Tensioning for Prestressed Concrete Pavements)

  • 본 연구는 프리스트레스트 콘크리트 포장(PSCP)의 횡방향 긴장 설계방안을 구축하기 위하여 수행되었다. 우선 PSCP에 횡방향 긴장을 가했을 경우에 긴장간격에 따른 슬래브의 응력분포를 분석하였다. 또한 환경하중과 차륜하중이 PSCP슬래브에 작용할 때 슬래브에 발생하는 인장응력의 분포도 분석하였다. 이러한 환경 및 차륜하중 등의 설계하중과 긴장응력을 결정하는 기준인 슬래브의 허용인장응력을 합리적으로 선정하는 방법에 대하여 논의하였으며 이러한 기준의 선정이 횡방향 긴장 설계에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 연구결과, 긴장간격이 커질수록 긴장응력의 손실을 가져오는 범위가 넓어지며 특히 Shoulder부분에서의 응력손실이 급격하게 증가하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 횡방향 긴장 설계는 설계하중에 대한 슬래브의 응력을 산출한 후 슬래브가 허용인장응력 이내의 응력을 받도록 평균긴장응력을 산출하여 긴장간격 및 긴장량을 결정하면 되지만, 이때 Shoulder, Wheel Pass, 중앙부 등 슬래브의 여러 다른 위치에서의 응력 또한 반드시 검토하여 적절한 긴장간격을 선정하여야 한다.

  • Recurrent transverse myelitis is a rare manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus. Recurrent transverse myelitis presents the biggest diagnostic problem, since it is common manifestation of multiple sclerosis. But it can also be the only feature or first manifestation in systemic lupus erythematosus. Neurological manifestations and magnetic resonance imaging can be indistinguishable, and there are no specific diagnostic tools. Here we describe a 59-year-old female having a systemic lupus erythematosus with recurrent transverse myeltitis. No uniform therapeutic protocol exists for systemic lupus erythematous with transverse myelitis, and the prognosis is usually poor. We suggest that aggressive treatment (usually with pulses of methylprednisolone and cyclophosphamide) might improve the prognosis of systemic lupus erythematosus with transverse myeltis.

철근콘크리트 원형기둥의 전단철근 유효단면적 평가 (Evaluation of Effective Section Area of Shear Steel in Reinforced Concrete Circular Columns)

  • 원형 철근콘크리트 기둥의 전단보강철근에 의한 저항강도의 평가를 위하여 전단에 의한 사인장 균열 면을 관통하는 원형 전단보강철근의 횡하중 작용방향의 평균 인장력을 산정하였다 이를 위하여 원형 전단보강철근이 이루는 원의 중심선간 직경, 수직 배근간격 및 기둥축 방향에 대한 사인장 균열면을 고려하였으며, 이들 변수들을 이용하여 원형 전단보강철근의 유효단면적을 계산하는 공식을 제안하였다. 연구결과, 원형 전단보강철근의 유효단면적 계산을 위하여 근 10년 간 사용되어 온 상수 계수가 모든 경우에 일률적으로 사용될 수 없음을 보여주고 있다 즉, 기존에 사용되는 원형전단철근 유효단면적은 기둥의 전단저항강도의 계산에 있어서, 전단철근의 배근간격이 비교적 넓은 비내지진 지역에서는 안전 측의 예측을 하게 되어 구조물의 안전상 큰 문제가 없지만, 배근간격이 촘촘하거나 원통형강관을 사용하게 되는 내진 지역에서는 기둥의 전단저항강도를 실제보다 20% 정도 과하게 예측하여 구조물의 안전에 좋지 않은 결과를 낳을 수도 있다.

Transverse cracking based numerical analysis and its effects on cross-ply laminates strength under thermo-mechanical degradation

  • Components manufactured from composite materials are frequently subjected to superimposed mechanical and thermal loadings during their operating service. Both types of loadings may cause fracture and failure of composite structures. When composite cross-ply laminates of type [$0_m/90_n]_s$ are subjected to uni-axial tensile loading, different types of damage are set-up and developed such as matrix cracking: transverse and longitudinal cracks, delamination between disoriented layers and broken fibers. The development of these modes of damage can be detrimental for the stiffness of the laminates. From the experimental point of view, transverse cracking is known as the first mode of damage. In this regard, the objective of the present paper is to investigate the effect of transverse cracking in cross-ply laminate under thermo-mechanical degradation. A Finite Element (FE) simulation of damage evolution in composite crossply laminates of type [$0_m/90_n]_s$ subjected to uni-axial tensile loading is carried out. The effect of transverse cracking on the cross-ply laminate strength under thermo-mechanical degradation is investigated numerically. The results obtained by prediction of the numerical model developed in this investigation demonstrate the influence of the transverse cracking on the bearing capacity and resistance to damage as well as its effects on the variation of the mechanical properties such as Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio and coefficient of thermal expansion. The results obtained are in good agreement with those predicted by the Shear-lag analytical model as well as with the obtained experimental results available in the literature.

Evaluation of electromechanical properties in REBCO CC tapes under transverse compression using anvil test method

  • One of the major applications of REBCO coated conductor (CC) tapes is in superconducting magnets or coils that are designed for high magnet fields. For such applications, the CC tapes were exposed to a high level of stresses which includes uniaxial tensile or transverse compressive stresses resulting from a large magnetic field. Thus, CC tapes should endure such mechanical load or deformation that can influence their electromechanical performance during manufacturing, cool-down, and operation. It has been reported that the main cause of critical current (Ic) degradation in CC tapes utilized in coil windings for superconducting magnets was the delamination due to transversely applied stresses. In most high-magnetic-field applications, the operating limits of the CC tapes will likely be imposed by the electromechanical properties together with its Ic dependence on temperature and magnetic field. In this study, we examined the influence of the transverse compressive stress on the Ic degradation behaviors in various commercially available CC tapes which is important for magnet design Four differently processed REBCO CC tapes were adopted to examine their Ic degradation behaviors under transverse compression using an anvil test method and a newly developed instantaneous Ic measurement system. As a result, all REBCO CC tapes adopted showed robustness against transverse compressive stresses for REBCO coils, notably at transverse compressive stresses until 250 MPa. When the applied stress further increased, different Ic degradation behaviors were observed depending on the sample. Among them, the one that was fabricated by the IBAD/MOCVD process showed the highest compressive stress tolerance.
