Effects of Polyamidoamine Dendrimers on the Catalytic Layers of a Membrane Electrode Assembly in Fuel Cells

  • The transport of reactant gas, electrons and protons at the three phase interfaces in the catalytic layers of membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) in proton exchange, membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) must be optimized to provide efficient transport to and from the electrochemical reactions in the solid polymer electrolyte. The aim of reducing proton transport loss in the catalytic layer by increasing the volume of the conducting medium can be achieved by filling the voids in the layer with small-sized electrolytes, such as dendrimers. Generation 1.5 and 3.5 polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimer electrolytes are well-controlled, nanometer-sized materials with many peripheral ionic exchange, -COOH groups and were used for this purpose in this study. The electrochemically active surface area of the deposited catalyst material was also investigated using cyclic voltammetry, and by analyzing the Pt-H oxidation peak. The performances of the fuel cells with added PAMAM dendrimers were found to be comparable to that of a fuel cell using MEA, although the Pt utilization was reduced by the adsorption of the dendrimers to the catalytic layer.

Structure and Vorticity of the Current Observed Across the Western Channel of the Korea Strait in September of 1987-1989

  • With sectional data obtained in September of 1987, 1988 and 1989 by quadrireciprocal ADCP measurement and CTD cast, the current structure, volume transport and vorticity in the Western Channel of the Korea Strait were studied. The characteristics of Tsushima Current water persisted throughout the summer especially in the homogeneous water of temperature $14-16^{\circ}C$ located at the depth of 50-100m below seasonal termocline. Thickness and velocity of the homogeneous layer are about 10-170m and 20-60cm/s. and the relative vorticity for this layer is shown to be nearly constant and it is smaller than the planetary vorticity. Potential vorticity of $2.70-7.10{\times}10^{-6}m^{-1}s^{-1}$ is found to be dependent mainly on planetary rather than on the relative vorticities. The Tsushima Current water represented by the homogeneous layer R14-16^{\circ}C$ may keep the potential vorticity at the area of strong current in the Strait. The ADCP current structure is similar to geostrophic current and the core of the current with the speed of 30-50cm/s is situated in the middle layer over the deep trough. With large tidal fluctuation the volume transport has mean value of 1.17sv which was about 40% larger than that of geostrophic calculation.

Hierarchical Location Mobility Management using MobilityManagement Points in IP networks

  • IP mobility can be handled in different layers of the protocol. Mobile IP has been proposed to handle the mobility of Internet hosts in the network layer. Recently, a new method based on the SIGMA mobility architecture has been proposed to support mobility management with reduced packet loss and latency. The location management structure is not suitable for frequent mobile handover due to the high mobility of the user with this transport layer solution. In this paper, we propose a location management optimization method in a mobile communication network by applying hierarchical location management using MMPs(Mobility Management Points) for transport layer mobility management. Therefore, we propose an efficient hierarchical mobility management structure even between heterogeneous wireless networks using MMPs for the probability that a mobile terminal can change multiple location areas between two messages and calls. The proposed method shows reduction in location update cost and data retrieval cost using MMPs, and as opposed to mobility appearing in time intervals with the minimum cost required to reach 90% of the stabilized cost, the mobility location update search, location It was found that the message processing cost per area was reduced.

Optimization of radiation shields made of Fe and Pb for the spent nuclear fuel transport casks

  • Recommendations are given to improve the efficiency of radiation protection of transport casks for SNF transportation. The attenuation of ${\gamma}$-quanta of long-lived isotopes 134Cs, 137mBa(137Cs), 154Eu and 60Co by optimizing the thicknesses and arrangement of layers of Fe and Pb radiation shields of transport casks is studied. The fixed radiation shielding mass (fixed mass thickness) is chosen as the main optimization criterion. The effect of the placement order of Fe and Pb layers in a combined two-layer radiation shield with an equivalent thickness of 30 cm is studied in detail. It is shown that with the same mass thicknesses of the Fe and Pb layers, the placement of Fe in the first layer, and Pb - in the second one provides more than twofold attenuation of ${\gamma}$-quanta compared to the reverse placement: Pb - in the first layer, Fe - in the second. The increase in the efficiency of attenuation of ${\gamma}$-quanta for TC with combined shielding of Fe and Pb is shown to be achieved by designing the first layer of radiation shielding around the canister with SNF from Fe of the maximum possible thickness.

  • Transparent indium tin oxide (ITO) anode surface was modified using $O_3$ Plasma and organic ultrathin buffer layers were deposited on the ITO surface using 13.56 MHz RF plasma polymerization technique. The EL efficiency, operating voltage and lifetime of the organic light-emitting device (OLED) were investigated in order to study the effect of the plasma surface treatment and role of plasma polymerized organic ultrathin buffer layer. Poly methylmethacrylate (PMMA) layers were plasma polymerized on the ITO anode as buffer layer between anode and hole transport layer (HTL). The plasma polymerization of the organic ultrathin layer were carried out at a homemade capacitive-coupled RF plasma equipment. N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'(3- methylphenyl)-1,1'-diphenyl-4,4'-diamine (TPD) as HTL, Tris(8-hydroxyquinolinato) Aluminum $(Alq_3)$ as both emitting layer (EML)/electron transport layer (ETL), and aluminum layer as cathode were deposited using thermal evaporation technique. Effects of the plasma surface treatment of ITO and plasma polymerized buffer layers on the OLED performance were discussed.

Analytical polarization curve of DMFC anode

  • A model for DMFC anode performance is developed. The model takes into account potential--independent methanol adsorption on the catalyst surface, finite rate of proton transport through the anode catalyst layer (ACL), and a potential loss due to methanol transport in the anode backing layer. An approximate analytical half--cell polarization curve is derived and equations for the anode limiting current density are obtained. The polarization curve is fitted to the curves measured by Nordlund and Lindbergh and parameters resulted from the fitting are discussed.

  • We have developed low voltage driving red phosphorescent organic light-emitting devices using a new electron transport layer. $Ir(piq)_3$ and CBP were used as a phosphorescent dopant and an emission host, respectively. The device exhibits a luminance of $1000\;cd/m^2$ at a voltage of 2.8 V. This high luminance at low voltage results from a high electron conduction behavior of the new electron transport layer.

무선 인터넷 서비스를 위한 HTTP 기반의 응용 계층 보안 프로토콜 ((An HTTP-Based Application Layer Security Protocol for Wireless Internet Services))

  • 현재 무선 인터넷에서 안전한 서비스를 제공하기 위하여 Secure HyperText Transfer Protocol(S-HTTP), Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions(S/MIME), Secure Sockets Layer(SSL)/Transport Layer Security(TLS)와 Wireless TLS(WTLS) 등의 여러 가지 보안 프로토콜이 사용되고 있다. 그러나 S-HTTP와 S/MIME은 특정 응용에 한정적으로 사용 가능하며 SSL/TLS와 WTLS는 채널 보안으로 인하여 자원 낭비가 심할 뿐만 아니라 전자 서명 기능 또한 제공하지 못한다. 본 논문에서는 S-HTTP와 SSL/TLS의 장점을 수용하고 HTTP 기반에서 TLS 보안 메커니즘을 이용한 새로운 형태의 응용 계층 보안 프로토콜인 Application Layer Security(ALS)를 제안한다. ALS는 HTTP 기반에서 동작하므로 다양한 하부 전송망에 독립적이고, 보안을 필요로 하는 응용에 대하여 보안 인터페이스를 제공하는 방법을 통하여 특정 응용에 종속적이지 않는 특성을 가진다. 또한, TLS의 검증된 보안 메커니즘을 적용하여 안전성을 확보하였고, 인증, 기밀성, 무결성, 전자 서명 서비스 및 부분 암호화를 지원함으로써 응용에서 요구하는 다양한 서비스를 제공할 수 있다. 마지막으로 본 논문에서는 ALS를 이용한 Wireless Application Protocol의 단대단 보안 구현 내용을 기술한다.

액정을 함유하는 유기 광도점체의 전하 수송착체에 의한 Charge-Carrier수송 특성과 형광거동 (Charge-Carrier Transport Properties and Fluorescence Behaviors Depending on Charge Transport Complex of Organic Photoconductor Containing Liquid Crystal)

  • 유기광도전체에 있어서의 액정은 종래의 분자 배향성을 가지지 않는 비정성 고체계와는 달리 분자 배향성을 가지기 때문에 분자 사이의 질서도가 높아지게 되고, charge-carrier의 hopping을 방해하는 hopping site의 공간적인 틈이 작아져 고 이동도의 특성을 가질수 있다. 본 연구에서는 유기광도전체의 전하 수송층에 액정5CT를 혼합하여, charge-carrier수송특성에 있어서의 액정5CT의 영향을 관찰하였다. 액정5CT를 함유한 유기광도전체는 액정의 혼합비가 증가함에 따가 초기전위는 증가하였으며, 암감쇄는 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 감도는 5CT를 TNF와 OXD 각자에 대하여 40 wt%로 혼합한 시료의 경우에 가장 우수하게 나타났다. 형광거동을 관찰한 결과, 이는 전하수송재료와 액정5CT의 전하 수송착체에 의한 것으로, 액정5CT를 TNF와 OXD 각각에 대하여 40 wt%로 혼합한 시료의 경우가 다른 시료에 비해 전하 수송착체가 가장 잘 형성되어, 성공을 잘 수송하기 때문으로 나타났다.

mSCTP를 이용한 종단간 이동성 지원 방안 (An End-to-End Mobility Support Mechanism based on mSCTP)

  • 최근 트랜스포트 계층에서 이동성을 지원하기 위한 방안으로 mSCTP가 제안되었다. mSCTP는 SCTP의 멀티호밍 특성을 기반으로 하며, 노드의 이동성을 지원하기 위해 SCTP 커넥션의 종단점에 매핑되는 IP 주소를 동적으로 추가ㆍ삭제하는 기능을 이용한다. 본 논문에서는 mSCTP의 성능 향상을 위해 2계층 정보를 이용하여 새로운 IP 주소를 추가하거나 이전 IP 주소를 삭제하는 시점을 결정하는 방안과 이동 노드에서 데이타 전송 경로 변경을 결정하는 방안을 제안하였다. 또한, 새로운 데이타 경로를 획득하는 시간이 길어지는 경우 핸드오버 지연을 줄이기 위한 방안을 제안하였다 시뮬레이션을 통하여 제안하는 방안이 네트워크 계층의 이동성 지원과 대등한 성능을 보임을 확인하였고, 이동 노드의 속도가 빠를 때는 네트워크 계층에서의 이동성 지원 방안보다 더 나은 성능을 제공함을 볼 수 있었다.
