A compressor loop pipe is the most important part in a refrigerator from the view of structural vibration and noise. Vibration energy generated from a compressor's inner body is transmitted to the shell and outside through the loop pipe. For this reason it is very important to design a compressor loop pipe. But, for geometrical complexity and dynamic nonlinearity of the loop pipe, analysis and design of the loop pipe is very difficult. So the statistical and experimental methods have to be used for design of this system. The response surface method (RSM) becomes a popular meta-modeling technique f3r the complex system as this loop pipe. As starting point of loop pile's optimization, FEA model and simple experimental model are used instead of the real loop pipe model. After RS model was constructed, using sensitivity-based optimizer performed optimization for the loop pipe. And the moving least square method (MLSM) was applied to reduce the approximation error.

The structure has several types of noise and booming noise of a vehicle is usually caused by the vibration of the vehicle's body transmitted from the engine through the mounting system. Vector synthesis analysis is performed to predict the booming noise when the characteristic of the engine mounting system is changed., i.e., when magnitudes and phases of vibratory forces after the mounts are altered. To use this method effectively, the concept of Multi-dimensional-analysis and Experimental Design are introduced to identify the contributions of each vibration sources and transmission paths to interior noise. It was used 3inputs/1output system and found the magnitudes and phases of the forces for minimizing the noise. Finally, the synthesized interior booming noise level is predicted by the vector synthesis diagram. It is shown that the vector synthesis method can be used to obtain the optimum design characteristic of the mounting system to control the interior booming noise of a vehicle.

In this paper, in order to analyze dynamic characteristics of automobile steering system consisting of many components, natural frequencies and transfer functions of each component and total system are found on FFT by experiments. Then, the data are transmitted to commercial package program, CADA-PC. By analyzing the data, the mode shape of each natural frequency and damping values are obtained. Also, the function of rubber coupling in column and telescoping effects on system are considered. C.A.E commercial program are used to compare with the results of experiments. For finite element modeling, I-DEAS is used. Data processing and post processing are operated on NASTRAN and XL, respectively. The ball-bearing and the linkage of shaft with column are modeled by spring elements. Stiffness is modified from the results of experiments. The results of those show close agreement. In the mode shape of total system, wheel mode is dominant at lower frequency while the column mode is main mode at higher . The role of rubber coupling in vibration isolation is clear on mode shape. Telescoping function makes natural frequency of column changed.

This paper presents vibration control of an active hybrid engine mount featuring a magneto-rheological(MR) fluid and a piezostack actuator. The MR fluid is adopted to improve isolation performance at resonant frequencies, while the piezostack actuator is adopted for performance improvement at non-resonant frequencies, especially at high frequencies. Based on some particular practical requirements of engine mounts, the proposed mount is designed and manufactured. The characteristics of rubber element, piezostack actuator and MR fluid are verified for system analysis and controller synthesis. The dynamic model of the proposed mount with a supported mass (engine) is established. In this work, a sliding mode controller is synthesized for the mount system to reduce vibrations transmitted from the engine in a wide frequency range. Computer simulations are performed to evaluate control performances of the proposed active engine mount in time and frequency domains.

Position tracking control of a link of a slave manipulator which needed to track the corresponding link of a master manipulator was addressed in this paper. Since driving torque from motor is transmitted through a set of flexible cable to link, the motion control system is modeled by a two-mass model connected with elastic coupling which has finite stiffness. Relative vibration of two-mass resonant system is a serious problem to operate manipulator. This paper proposed sliding mode control to reduce resonant vibration and fine position tracking control. Also, a pseudo-sliding mode control which uses a saturation function instead of a signum function was discussed and showed that the pseudo-sliding mode control can improve disturbance regulation performance as well as guarantees fine command tracking without chattering which is an inherent drawback of basic sliding mode control. In addition, a disturbance observer based sliding mode control has been suggested to improve disturbance regulation performance. The feasibility of the proposed control design was verified along with some simulation results.

The vibration characteristics of a hammer press are important parameters for machine design and production control. In this study, a counterblow hammer press was mathematically modelled as a mass-spring-damper system in order to analyze its vibration characteristics. The forging efficiency was theoretically derived as a function of the mass ratio, momentum ratio, and the coefficient of restitution And the effects of the mass ratio, momentum ratio and the restitution coefficient on the forging efficiency were also investigated for two particular cases of the unit mass ratio and unit momentum ratio. Additionally, the vibration responses of the counterblow hammer press due to the ram colliding impact were analyzed, and the force transmitted to the foundation through the mounting unit was determined.
Recently, hybrid and electric vehicles have been actively developed to replace internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. However, their vibrations and noise with complex spectra cause discomfort to drivers. To reduce the vibrations transmitted through primary excitation sources such as powertrains, structural changes have been introduced. However, the interference among different parts is a limitation. Thus, active mounting systems based on smart materials have been actively investigated to overcome these limitations. This study focuses on diminishing the source movement when a structure with two active mounting systems is excited to a single sinusoidal and a multi-frequency signal, which were investigated for source movement reduction. The overall structure was modeled based on the lumped parameter method. Active vibration control was implemented based on the modeled structure, and a multi-normalization least mean square (NLMS) algorithm was used to obtain the control input for the active mounting system. Furthermore, the performance of the NLMS algorithm was compared with that of the quantification method to demonstrate the performance of active vibration control. The results demonstrate that the vibration attenuation performance of the source component was improved.

In modern surveillance equipment, infrared (IR) sensors are essential for detection and observation. The IR sensor is connected to a miniature cryogenic cooler to maintain the temperature at very low levels, i.e., temperatures as low as 77 K. However, the quality of the image captured by the sensor is degraded by the transmission of vibration disturbances from the cooler. Therefore, to maintain high image quality, the compressor vibration and the force transmitted to the sensor have to be mitigated. For the compressor vibration isolating system, a tuned dynamic vibration absorber, combined with a passive isolator, is proposed. A cryogenic compressor bracket and springs are designed to allow the absorber mass to mitigate the vibration jitter in the axial direction. The system design is analyzed and evaluated in terms of the dynamic suppression of the harmonic force at the operating frequency of the cooler.
Shock and vibration inputs are transmitted from the transporting vehicle through the packaging to the fruit. The vibration causes sustained bouncing of fruits against each other and the container wall. The steady state vibration input may cause serous fruit injury, and the damage is particularly severe if the fruits are bounced at its resonance frequency. The determination of the resonance frequencies of the fruits and vegetables may help the packaging designer to determine the proper packaging system providing adequate protection for the fruits, and to understand the complex interaction between the components of the fruits when they relate to expected transportation vibration inputs. To analyze the vibration properties of the watermelon for optimum packaging design during transportation, sinusoidal sweep vibration tests were carried out. The resonance frequency of the watermelon ranged from 19 to 32 Hz and the amplitude at resonance was between 1.6 and 2.9 G. The resonance frequency and amplitude at resonance frequency band of the watermelon decreased with the increase of the sample mass. The multiple nonlinear regression equation for predicting the resonance frequency of the watermelon were developed using the independent variables such as mass, input acceleration and sphericity.
This study was intended to investigate the characteristics of ride vibrations transmitted to tractor operator during rotary tillage and plowing operations. Seat accelerations of a 41 ps diesel tractor in rotary tillage and plowing were measured and evaluated as specified in the ISO 2631-1. Effects of working speed and tilling depth on ride vibration were investigated. The level of ride vibration was also evaluated in terms of health guidance caution zones. Some of the results of the study are as follows: 1. The level of ride vibration in plowing was about 4.3 times greater than in rotary tillage. 2. The effect of working speed in rotary tillage differs depending upon the tillage depth. The level of ride vibration was increased with the speed, but it decreased over a certain tillage depth. Fore and aft vibration was 2.2-2.7 times severer than horizontal and vertical vibrations. Dominant frequency band was 1-3.15 ㎐ in fore and aft, 1-3.15㎐ and 16-25㎐ in horizontal, and 16-25㎐ in vertical directions. 3. Plowing reduced the ride vibration by 42.8-50.2%. But its positive effect decreased as the plowing speed increased. In plowing operation, ride vibration was similar degrees in fore and aft, horizontal and vertical directions. The dominant frequency band in plowing operation was 1-2.5㎐ in fore and aft, 1-2.5㎐ in horizontal, and 1-8㎐ in vertical directions. 4. On a basis of daily work hours of 4, total level of ride vibrations in plowing operation is likely to be harmful to operator's health.
