  • This work reports the preparation of ceramic hybrid films with illite-polyethylene composites analyzed as a function of concentration of added illite in polyethylene. The enhancement of oxygen and water-vapor transmission rate of illite-polyethylene film was evaluated to determine its influence on the freshness in fruit packaging. Particle size of illite materials was controlled in the range of 1~10 ㎛ and then mixed with LDPE to form the masterbatch. Ceramic hybrid films were prepared through a blown film making process. To determine the dispersity and abundancy of illite materials in the polyethylene matrix, various characterizations of illite-PE hybrid masterbatch and films were performed using SEM, TGA, and FT-IR. The oxygen and water-vapor transmission rate of illite-polyethylene film was found to be two times higher than that of LDPE film.

  • As network adaptive streaming technology becomes increasingly common, transport protocol also becomes important in guaranteeing the quality of multimedia streaming. At the same time, because of the appearance of high-quality video such as Ultra High Definition (UHD), preventing buffering as well as preserving high quality while deploying a streaming service becomes important. The Internet Engineering Task Force recently published Multipath TCP (MPTCP). MPTCP improves the maximum transmission rate by simultaneously transmitting data over different paths with multiple TCP subflows. However, MPTCP cannot preserve high quality, because the MPTCP subflows slowly increase the transmission rate, and upon detecting a packet loss, drastically halve the transmission rate. In this paper, we propose a new multipath congestion control scheme for high-quality multimedia streaming. The proposed scheme preserves high quality of video by adaptively adjusting the increasing parameter of subflows according to the network status. The proposed scheme also increases network efficiency by providing load balancing and stability, and by supporting fairness with single-flow congestion control schemes.

  • A driving vehicle performance which is driven by FTP-75 mode was simulated by computer. Throttle valve position, engine speed, air mass flow rate, fuel consumption et al. were computer simulated. A set of engine part load performance data, automatic transmission shift map and vehicle specifications were used for the computer simulation. Throttle valve position, engine speed, air mass flow rate et al. measured for evaluating the computer simulation results by driving the vehicle with FTP-75 mode on a chassis dynamometer. GT-Power$^{(R)}$ software was used for the computer simulation of the driving vehicle performance. Experimental fuel consumption rate was measured by using an ECU HILS fuel injection system. The experimental data and simulation results were compared. The computer simulation of the driving vehicle performance predicts the measured data well comparatively.

  • Transmission line outage is influenced by several weather factors: wind, rain snow, temperature, cloud and humidity. And most power system reliability studies assume a failure rate. It can be calculated by transmission line outage data and weather data. Also weather is divided into normal weather and adverse weather by failure rate analysis. The effect of failure rate is discussed with both normal weather and adverse weather. It can be used in effective information about system operation and planing.

  • This paper describes various mismatch phenomena in differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) coding, such as the mismatch effects of probability density functin(pdf), signal variance, and correlation. At a high transmission rate(i.e., above 32 kbits/s), the performance of DPCM can be improved by matching the pdf shape between the input signal and the quantizer. However, the same gain cannot be obtained at a lower transmission rate. Also, it is shown that the gamma quantizer is realtively robust to the variation of pdf shaper and signal variance. Moreover, as the transmission rate increases, the performance of DPCM for the input signal with large variance is worse than that of DPCM for the signal with small variance due to the increase of overload noise. According to our simuladiton results, the mismatch effects of pdf shape and variance appear to yield more degradatin than that of correlation in a DPCM system.

  • The mode of transmission, effect on fecundity, hatching and tissues specificity of a microsporidian $(Lb_{ms})$ recovered from Lamerin breed of the silkworm Bombyx mori L. was studied and compared with standard strain Nosema bombycis. Peroral inoculation of $Lb_{ms}$ or N. bombycis to zeroday of $4^{th}$ instar larvae of silkworm was the most suitable method for producing information on development of stage specific mortality, pupation and obtaining infected adults for transovarial transmission studies. It was observed that pupal mortality, the percentage of moths emerged and the percentage of moths infected were significantly high in N. bombycis infected batches as compared $(Lb_{ms})$ in all the three tested breeds of the silkworm. However no significant difference was observed in larval mortality. The fecundity and hatchability was not affected significantly in $(Lb_{ms})$ infected adults, however significant reduction in egg production, fecundity, hatchability and increased egg retention was observed in mother moths infected with N. bombycis. The $(Lb_{ms})$ is transmitted both horizontally and vertically at lower rate due to its low rate of proliferation. The trans ovarial transmission of $(Lb_{ms})$ to the $F_1$ progeny generation through eggs averaged only $61.33\pm5.10\%$ whereas N. bombycis was transmitted at $100\%$. The $(Lb_{ms})$ had low oral infectivity and low transovarial transmission in silkworm B. mori.

  • IEEE 802.11p is a representative PHY/MAC layer standard in vehicular communications. The performance of IEEE 802.11p based communication systems has been measured in various criterions such as link setup time, error rate, and throughput for the case of one-to-one. In this paper, we measure the performance of IEEE 802.11p based communication systems in large capacity transmission. The performance of large capacity transmission is measured by considering the maximum 32 simultaneous transmission including one-to-one transmission. We consider two transmission schemes, i.e., broadcasting and unicasting, and the performance is represented as the receiving rate and throughput.

  • A longitudinal modal transmission-line theory(L-MTLT) to analyze the static and dynamic behavior of two-section distributed feedback (DFB) lasers is used. The characteristic impedance and equivalent propagation constant of DFB structure with active layer are derived from L-MTLT. A two-section DFB laser is analogous to a transmission-line network, in which each section is described by transmission-line block corresponding to the equivalent factors. The longitudinal resonant condition of DFB laser based on equivalent transmission-line network is used to reformulate the rate equations so that static and dynamic behavior of two-section DFB lasers with active layer is demonstrated and analyzed accurately.
