Development of Transmission Pricing Package Based on Unified Modeling Language (UML 기반의 송전요금계산 패키지 개발)

  • This paper presents an application of Unified Modeling Language(UML) software technique for developing transmission pricing evaluation package. Also, this paper describes a transmission pricing algorithm applicable to a large-scale power system. The usage-based transmission pricing mechanism is very complex since it requires power flow analysis, fault current analysis, sensitivity evaluation of a transmission line, penalty factors calculation, transmission asset databases, and cost allocation rules, etc. For the efficient and flexible development of the transmission pricing package, a UML. approach is applied, which is composed of a use-case diagram, interaction diagram, class diagram, and package diagram using Rational Rose Unified Process(RUP). The designed transmission pricing package can be efficiently modified and reused as the market environments evolves since it is designed by Object-Oriented Programming(OOP).

  • It is required to develop a rational transmission pricing methodology to ensure the fair participation of the player in the market. Because of economic efficiency, marginal pricing method has been studied to be applied to transmission pricing methodology. In application of marginal pricing method to transmission pricing, revenue reconciliation must be needed to recover Transco's revenue requirements. This paper presents a reconciliation method based on line's value to transmission service user.

  • This paper presents a transmission cost allocation through application of a new reliability index in transmission pricing in competitive electric industry. The proposed method allocates a fair use of transmission system charge given separately to individual generator by capacity usage, based on the contribution of individual generator considering N-1 contingency in reliability margin of transmission capacity, and offers more alternatives of pricing in using transmission capacity and transmission margin.

  • Transmission pricing is one of important issues related to competitive electricity markets since rational pricing scheme ensures a fair competition between this market participants. Transmission pricing scheme is classified briefly into marginal cost pricing and embedded cost pricing. In economic efficiency, marginal cost pricing is more adequate for competitive electricity market. However, this pricing scheme requires revenue reconciliation since it cannot ensure full recovery of Transco's revenue requirements. This paper presents a new revenue reconciliation to maximize social welfare. For this analysis, this paper provides the results applied by various revenue reconciliation methodologies.

  • Competition among electric generation companies is a major goal of restructuring in the electricity industry. In electricity market, a huge volume of commodities will be traded through competitive bidding. The choice between uniform and pay-as-bid pricing for electricity auction has been one of most important issues in deregulated electricity market. This paper proposes a constrained Bertrand model for analyzing the electricity auction market of price competition model. The issue of the two pricing rules of uniform and pay-as-bid is studied from the viewpoint of consumer's benefit. This paper also shows that transmission congestion depends on the pricing mechanism. Pay-as-bid pricing gives less possibility of transmission congestion by price competition, and less burden to consumers in the simulation results.

  • Electric industry has been the object of major reforms in many countries. These reforms are aimed at attaining efficiency through competition. Thus network companies do not charge transmission cost for line user the same as method at past. This paper presents a transmission cost allocation through reliability differentiated transmission pricing in competitive electric industry. The proposed method considers only the line capacity affecting the reliability of transmission pricing under normal state and contingency state.

  • The methodologies of power transmission pricing are normally divided into two categories such as marginal cost method and embedded cost allocation method. This paper, first, discusses the possible problems that can occur when the marginal cost method is applied to pricing the transmission services. Next, the paper proposes a method to apply the power flow tracing to the transmission network charge. The result of the power flow tracing method is then used in MW-mile method to charge individual loads for the use of transmission network. Effectiveness of the algorithm is verified by computer simulations.

  • In wireless ad hoc networks the nodes focus on achieving the maximum SINR for efficient data transmission. In order to achieve maximum SINR the nodes culminate in exhausting the battery power for successful transmissions. This in turn affects the successful transmission of the other nodes as the maximum transmission power opted by each node serves as a source of interference for the other nodes in the network. This paper models the choice of power for each node as a non cooperative game where the throughput of the network with respect to the consumption of power is formulated as a utility function. We propose an adaptive pricing scheme that encourages the nodes to use minimum transmission power to achieve target SINR at the Nash equilibrium and improve their net utility in multiuser scenario.

  • Transmission congestion is one of the key factors to local market power in competitive electricity markets. Financial transmission rights provide the financia] protection to their holders by paying back the congestion rent. A variety researches have shown that the existing trading mechanisms on transmission right can exacerbate market power. This paper proposes an alternative methodology in mitigating the local market power using the Contingent Transmission Rights on the locational marginal pricing scheme. The proposed methodology was demonstrated with the Optimal Power Flow.
