  • Condition monitoring technique used in the military is JOAP, for which the spectroscopic analysis is applied. However it is known that the technique has some problems in economical and practical point of view. This study introduces a new technique for measuring wear in real time base and applies the technique to a high power semi-automatic transmission. The results show the feasibility by measuring the concentration of ferrous wear particles from the transmission oil.

  • Even though underground transmission cable is an essential transmission method to supply stable power for downtown and population center, the interaction of electromagnetic force by fault current is very large comparing to overhead transmission line due to restricted installation space such as tunnel, and close consideration is required for it. This paper presents countermeasures to reduce and release the effect of electromagnetic force with rope binding and installation of spacer and describes its efficacy through three phase short-circuit test, which will be utilized as basic materials for improvement and development of cleat, hanger, etc. to reduce and release effect of electromagnetic force in the future.

  • An analysis of the dynamic behavior between disk and roller has been performed when the torque is transmitted to toroidal IVT (Infinitely Variable Transmission). The contact area, shape and pressure with elliptical shapes between disk and roller are computed as the transmission ratios are changed. This study will give the information of contact shapes between roller-input dist and roller-output disk which are working under the most severe condition. The computed results are expected to guide the design criteria for the enhanced endurance li(e. Furthermore, the investigation of contact behaviors is very crucial to develop the traction oil that the efficiency of IVT system is most dependent on.

  • Since the first underground transmission line of Korea was installed between Danginri and Yongsan substations in 1974, the two types of underground transmission power cables, oil-filled and XLPE, have been applied for underground transmission lines. As the manufacturing technologies of XLPE cable have been improved and the simplicity of installation and maintenance has been focused on, the installations of XLPE cables have been largely increased since the mid 1990's. For the first time, in Korea, the 345kV XLPE cable was installed between Youngseo and Youngdeungpo substations in 2003, June. So, this paper introduces the project profile, the design of cable and its accessory, the cable system design, installation and site test.

  • On mini-bus with diesel engine, at idle rpm for taking measurement to reduce gear rattle noise, was tested by the three clutch disc samples by turns, then measured the fluctuation of revolution of engine & transmission and parallel vibration of differential gear & transmission. By analyzing the measured data, the gear rattle noise, the matching design and tuning technic of transmission are comprehended and established. Conclusions of this test are as follows ; (1) Fluctuation of revolution on transmission is greatly affected by torsion of clutch disc according to fluctuation of engine revolution transmit to transmission through clutch system. Especially, gear rattle noise can be reduced by minimaizing the fluctuation of the revolution of transmission using pre-damper type clutch disc. (2) The reason of gear rattle noise is higher in summer than winter and driving longer period than initial driving is due to affection by drag torque changing. So, it is necessary for manufacturer to choose proper oil to transmission. (3) It can be occurred jumping and crash noise by applying the pre-damper type clutch disc for reducing the gear rattle noise. So, it is necessary to do test with actual vehicle according to test procedure.

  • Automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is used as an automatic transmission in the vehicle or as a characterized fluid for automatic transmission. Recently, vehicle manufacturers usually guarantee for changing fluids over 80000~100000 km mileage or no exchange. However, most drivers usually change ATF below every 50000 km driving distance when driving in Republic of Korea according to a survey from the Korea Institute of Petroleum Management which can cause both a serious environmental contamination by the used ATF and an increase in the cost of driving. In this study, various physical properties such as flash point, pour point, kinematic viscosity, dynamic viscosity at low temperature, total acid number and four-ball test were investigated for both fresh ATF and used ATF after the actual vehicle driving distance of 50000 km and 100000 km. It was shown that most physical properties were suitable for the specification of ATF, but the foam characteristics of the used oil after running 100000 km was unsuitable for the specification of fresh ATF. Therefore, the exchange cycle of ATF every 80000~100000 km driving distance is recommended considering great positive contributions to preventing environmental pollution and reducing driving cost.

  • Due to high oil prices, environmental pollution, the study of electric vehicles have been actively promoted. Charger for the electric vehicle is being developed using wireless rather than cable options. In this paper, we got more efficiency from using a superconducting transmission coil compared to using a normal coil. We implemented a wireless power transmission system using a magnetic induction at a frequency of 63.1 kHz. For comparison, a transmitter was designed using a superconducting coil and a normal coil. In addition, a receiver used a normal coil to apply for electric vehicles. The applied voltage and current were12 V and 5 A. Efficiency at a distance of 40 ~ 80 mm was measured. As a result, the superconducting transmission coil had a higher efficiency than the normal transmission coil. However, the receiving coil should be normal conductor for stable operation considering that it was put in moving electric vehicle. The efficiency was increased to 44 % at a distance of 40 mm when the diameter of normal receiving coil was 120 mm.

  • This study was carried out in order to investigate the potential of using plant oils derived from Leptospermum petersonii Bailey and Syzygium aromaticum L. Merr. Et Perry as natural antifungal agents. The antifungal effects of essential oils at concentrations of 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, and 0.2 mg/ml on the dermatophytes Microsporum canis (KCTC 6591), Trichophyton mentagrophytes (KCTC 6077), Trichophyton rubrum (KCCM 60443), Epidermophyton floccosum (KCCM 11667), and Microsporum gypseum were evaluated using the agar diffusion method. The major constituents of the active fraction against the dermatophytes were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and high-performance liquid chromatography analysis. The antifungal activities of S. aromaticum oil (clove oil) against the dermatophytes tested were highest at a concentration of 0.2mg/ml, with an effectiveness of more than 60%. Hyphal growth was completely inhibited in T. mentagrophytes, T. rubrum, and M. gypseum by treatment with clove oil at a concentration of 0.2 mg/ml. Eugenol was the most effective antifungal constituent of clove oil against the dermatophytes T. mentagrophytes and M. canis. Morphological changes in the hyphae of T. mentagrophytes, such as damage to the cell wall and cell membrane and the expansion of the endoplasmic reticulum, after treatment with 0.11 mg/ml eugenol were observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). At a concentration of 0.2 mg/ml, L. petersonii oil (LPO) was more than 90% effective against all of the dermatophytes tested, with the exception of T. rubrum. Geranial was determined to be the most active antifungal constituent of L. petersonii oil. Taken together, the results of this study demonstrate that clove and tea tree oils exhibited significant antifungal activities against the dermatophytes tested in this study.

S of Chon buk N. Unv. It is empirically known that, in concentrated conjunctions lubricated with O/W emulsions, only the oil is entrained to form elastohydrodynamic films. In the present work, this phenomenon is studied experimentally and the result is compared with a theory Which employes a starved lubrication concept. The experiment is conducted in a four roller machine with 0/W emulsions of varying concentration of oil, i.e. beef tallow, in which the film thickness is determined by detecting the rate of X-ray transmission through the conjunction. Excellent agreement is found between the experimental and the theoretical results.
