  • Several methods of aligning ring type cavities have been investigated for long time. The measurement of cavity transmission spectrum control is somewhat effective due to aligning cavity with measuring cavity loss at the same time. In this research, four mirrors are aligned and attached by the measurement of pulse width of the transmitted light. The intracavity loss is optimized to about 0.98%, giving the calculated total reflection coefficient of about 99.02%.

  • We suggest a facile transmission electron microscopy (TEM) specimen preparation method for the direct (polymer-free) transfer of layer-area graphene from Cu substrates to a TEM grid. The standard (polymer-based) method and direct transfer method were by TEM, high-resolution TEM, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The folds and crystalline particles were formed in a graphene specimen by the standard method, while the graphene specimen by the direct method with a new etchant solution exhibited clean and full coverage of the graphene surface, which reduced several wet chemical steps and accompanying mechanical stresses and avoided formation of the oxide metal.

  • This study developed a practical two-microphone impedance tube method to measure the sound transmission loss of sound isolation materials without the use of an expensive reverberation room or an acoustic intensity probe. In order to evaluate the validation and applicability of the two-microphone impedance tube method, sound transmission losses for several sound isolation materials with different surface density and bending stiffness were measured, and the measured values were compared with the results from the reverberation room method and the theory. From the experimental results, it was found that the accuracy of sound transmission loss obtained by the impedance tube method depends upon the diameter size of the impedance tube (i.e., tested sample size). For sound isolation materials having relatively large bending stiffness such as acryl, wood, and aluminum plates, it was found that the impedance tube method proposed by this study was not valid to measure the sound transmission loss. On the other hand, for sound isolation materials having relatively small bending stiffness such as rubber, polyvinyl, and asphalt sheets, the comparisons of transmission loss between the results from the impedance tube method and the theory showed a good agreement within the range of the frequencies satisfying the normal incidence mass law. Therefore, the two-microphone impedance tube method proposed by this study can be an effective measurement method to evaluate the sound transmission loss for soft sound isolation sheets having relatively small bending stiffness.

  • In this study, a beam-coupling system is designed to improve the coupling efficiency of achip-integrated spectrometer when the waveguide is arranged in a linear and discrete manner. In the proposed system the beam is shaped to be anti-Gaussian, to deposit adequate energy in the edge waveguides. The beam is discretely coupled to the corresponding waveguide by a microlens array, to improve the coupling efficiency, and is compressed by a toroidal lens to match the linear discrete waveguides. Based on the findings of this study, the coupling efficiency of the spectrometer is shown to increase by a factor of 2.57. Accordingly, this study provides a reference basis for the improvement of the coupling efficiency of other similar spectrometers.

  • In this paper, a simple but fast and reliable technique for the complex dielectric constant measurement of non-magnetic materials is introduced using a measured transmission coefficient (S21) and a genetic algorithm as an inversion process at microwave frequencies. In this experiment, it has been found that the transmission method is less susceptible with the measurement errors than that of the reflection method and the genetic algorithm can be efficiently used as a search technique. The suggested technique is validated with known and unknown conductor-loaded lossy materials and the conductor-loaded PCB at X-band.

  • Intensity-based optical fiber sensors are devised using a blocker which is located between two polymer optical fibers(POFs), one fiber is light-in and the other is light-out. This blocker is moved by an external displacement. Therefore, finding a general formulation of the relation between this displacement and transmission light intensity of various blockers is important to help develop intensity-based optical fiber sensors. In this paper, we consider blockers with arbitrary shapes from circular holes to inclined angled blockers. The transmission light intensities of such blockers should be determined by this generalized equation. In order to verify this equation, the calculated intensities of the blockers are compared with the values acquired from experiment. In the comparison, it is shown that the analytic equation can give the exact values of the transmitted light intensities for the assorted blockers. The range of the displacement measurement is also shown to be about 6 times of the radius of the hole in the case of a 9 degree inclined angle blocker.

  • This paper propose a transmission method for "Transportation system" that can decide precise position under wide area road traffic environment. For precise position detecting, central station collect multiple receiver station's satellite navigation data and generate correction information. In this process, we need efficient real time transmission method for satellite navigation message that has variable data size. We propose real time data transmission method. This real time transmission method offer efficient processing structure for multiple receiver station's satellite navigation message. This paper explains proposed real time transmission method and proofs this transmission method.

  • Measuring noise, sound quality or acoustical comfort presents a difficult task for the acoustic engineer. Sound and noise are ultimately jugded by human beings acting as analysers. Regulations for determining noise levels are based on A-weighted SPL measurement performed with only one microphone. This method of measurement is usually specified when determining whether the ear can be physically damaged. Such a simple measurement procedure is not able to determine annoyance of sound events or sound quality in general. For some years investigations with binaural measurement analysis technique have shown new possibilities for the objective determination of sound quality. By using Artificial Head technology /1/, /2/ in conjunction with psychoacoustic evaluation algorithms - and taking into account binaural signal processing of human hearing, considerable progress regarding the analysis of sounds has been made. Because sound events often arise in a complex way, direct conclusions about components subjectively judged to be annoying with regard to their causes and transmission paths, can be drawn in a limited way only. A new procedure, complementing binaural measurement technology combined with mulit-channel measuements of acceleration sensor signals has been developed. This involves correlating signals influencing sound quality, analyzed by means of human hearing, with signals form different acceleration sensors fixed at different positions of the sound source. Now it is possible to recognize the source and the transmission way of those signals which have an influence on the annoyance of sound.

  • A conducting polymer, poly 3-hexylthiophene (P3HT) is characterized with the metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) measurement method and the high frequency planar circuit method. From the MIS measurement method, the relative dielectric constant of the P3HT film is estimated to be 4.4. For the high frequency planar circuit method, a coplanar waveguide is fabricated on the P3HT film. When applying +20 V to the CPW on P3HT film, the P3HT film is in accumulation mode and becomes lossy. The CPW on P3HT film is 1.5 dB lossier than the CPW on $SiO_2$ film without P3HT film at 50 GHz.

  • In the present study a new measurement technique has been developed, which uses an ultrasonic transmission signal in order to identify the vertical two phase flow pattern. The ultrasonic measurement system developed in the present study not only provides the information required for the identification of vertical two phase flow patterns but also makes real time identification possible. Various vertical two phase flow patterns such as bubbly, slug, churn, annular flow etc. have been accurately identified with the present ultrasonic measurement system under atmospheric condition. In addition, the present test apparatus can practically simulate the ultrasonic propagation characteristics under high temperature and high pressure systems. Therefore, it is expected that the present ultrasonic flow pattern identification technique could be applicable to the vertical two phase flow systems under high temperature and high pressure conditions.
