Shift-transient characteristics of an automatic transmission (자동변속기의 변속과도특성 해석)

  • Shift quality of an automatic transmission in a vehicle is mainly affected by transient pressures in the hydraulic system during shifting. In this study, dynamic modelings of the hydraulic system and the power train of an automatic transmission are made systematically by a bond-graph method. The dynamic characteristics of the line pressures and clutch/brake pressures during shiftings are investigated by simulations and verified by experiments. The effects of clutch/brake pressures on the shift torque are also investigated through driving simulation.

  • A radio-frequency (RF) Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) torch system was used for boron-nitride nano-tube (BNNT) synthesis. Because of electrodeless plasma generation, no electrode pollution and effective heating transfer during nano-material synthesis can be realized. For stable plasma generation, argon and nitrogen gases were injected with 60 kW grid power in the difference pressure from 200 Torr to 630 Torr. Varying hydrogen gas flow rate from 0 to 20 slpm, the electrical and optical plasma properties were investigated. Through the spectroscopic analysis of atomic argon line, hydrogen line and nitrogen molecular band, we investigated the plasma electron excitation temperature, gas temperature and electron density. Based on the plasma characterization, we performed the synthesis of BNNT by inserting 0.5~1 um hexagonal-boron nitride (h-BN) powder into the plasma. We analysis the structure characterization of BNNT by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) and TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), also grasp the ingredient of BNNT by EELS (Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy) and Raman spectroscopy. We treated bundles of BNNT with the atmospheric pressure plasma, so that we grow the surface morphology in the water attachment of BNNT. We reduce the advancing contact angle to purity bundles of BNNT.

Reliability Assessment for Pressure Uprating of Natural Gas Transmission Pipelines (운전압력 상향을 위한 천연가스배관의 신뢰성 검토)

  • It is required to construct the pipelines to eliminate pressure drop at the end of transmission line under limitation of maximum operation pressure of 6.86 MPa, however, it highly costs to build the pipelines and takes time-consuming job. Higher operation pressure compared to current operating pressure has been considered to resolve the problem of pressure drop without modification of the existing pipelines and facilities. As a result of the integrity evaluation, the existing pipelines can be operated up to 7.85 MPa in terms of wall thickness and have higher Charpy impact energy than required value in the ASME B31.8. However, Increment of operation pressure gives rise to increase potential impact area if the pipelines burst due to third party damages.

Dense Spray Patternation using Optical Tomography

  • Optical tomography was used to measure the pattern of spray cross-section. The maximum-likelihood estimation (MLE) algorithm was used to reconstruct the spray cross-section from the measured transmission rate of the spray. A swirl-type injector was used to form an optically dense spray, and the test was carried out in a high-pressure chamber, to control the pressure condition of the test site. Before the experiment, the reliability of the MLE-based reconstruction algorithm was verified, by comparing it with a conventional filtered back projection reconstruction (FBP) method. The MLE algorithm showed superior reconstruction of the image. In the spray patternation experiment, the results of the optical tomography and optical line patternator, which uses Mie scattering signal information, were compared. While measuring the cross-section of optically dense spray, the intensity of the scattering signal had attenuated to an uncorrectable level, which led to incorrect spray pattern measurement by the optical line patternator. However, reliable results were obtained by optical tomography, under the same condition. Finally, the pattern of the optically dense spray was measured at various chamber pressures, of up to 3 MPa. As the chamber pressure increased, the hollow cone-shaped swirl spray shrank, and the attenuation coefficient value of the inner region increased.

  • Hydraulic Transients would be occurred since pressure is increased or decreased when water speed inside of pipeline is rapidly changed A study on water hammer has become more important because the pumping stations were big and the systems conveying the fluid through the large and long transmission pipelines were complex. In this study, the method of characteristic line was adopted to evaluate the valve-induced water hammer phenomena in a pumps feedwater system.

  • Hydraulic power shifting systems of hydraulic travel motor may be far safer than mechanical power transmission systems. Thus, hydraulic power shifting systems are widely used for speed control on the hydraulic equipments. In the case of liquid shifting lines, the rapid change of area, such as valve closing, can result in a large pressure transient. It is necessary to assure proper control method in order to obtain the smallest shift shock. This study conducts the shock characteristics of hydraulic power shifting system of the hydraulic travel motor. Experimental results show that shock pressure depends on the operating pressure, flow rate and pipe line area. The shock characteristics can be applied for reducing shocks.

Development of Laser Welding Technology for Commercial Vehicle Oil Pressure Sensor (상용차 오일압력 측정용 압력센서 제작을 위한 레이저용접기술)

  • Using a fiber laser heat source, an oil pressure sensor was fabricated to measure the pressure in commercial vehicles. A stepping motor was used for the rotational and translational motion in the diaphragms and hardware joining. Laser welding process algorism including shielding gas control and vision system was integrated by using LabVIEW software for the high quality welding and in-line monitoring purpose. For the maximum flexibility in pressure transmission to the pressure sensor, thin sheet metal diaphragm, $25{\sim}50{\mu}m$(SUS-316L), was used and the diaphragms were optimally designed with FEM analysis. The welded samples were cross-sectioned the observation showed that the maximum depth ratio was more than seven times of diaphragms. The maximum welding speed was measured to be as high as 50in/mm by the developed automation mechanism. The fabricated prototypes were tested for the proof pressure, spring constant and sealing. The FEM results of spring constant measurement was as accurate as up to 80% of the design value and the sensor was safely operated up to the nominal pressure of 10bars.

  • 이 연구에서는 고압 호스에서의 파속 데이터에 기초한 새로운 맥동류 해석법을 제안한다. 이어서, 저자가 제안한 고압 호스에서의 파속 측정법인 "3개 압력 변환기를 갖는 폐쇄 출구 도관법"을 사용하여 자동차 동력 조향 장치용 레조네이터 호스 각 부품에서의 파속 데이터를 계측해둔다. 최종적으로 몇 개의 연구 대상 레조네이터 호스에 대한 압력 맥동 감쇠 특성 실험 및 시뮬레이션을 수행한다. 그 결과로부터, 제안한 압력 맥동 전파 특성 해석법의 타당성을 검증한다.

A Study on the Sliding Wear Rate Calculation in Spur Gears (Spur Gear의 미끄럼 마멸률에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the sliding wear in spur gears, using Archard's wear model, is analyzed. Formulas of tooth sliding wear depth along the line of action are derived. The tooth profile is modified Id make a smooth transmission of the normal loads and the cylinder profile for reducing the pressure spike is suggested. The sliding wear rate is calculated with these profiling results. We expect these modification methods to contribute to the reduction of sliding wear not only in the root, but the tip of tooth and tooth edge.

  • Fitting process carried out in the automobile transmission assembly line is classified into three classes; heat fitting, press fitting, and their combined fitting. Heat fitting is a method that heats gear to a suitable range under the tempering temperature and squeezes it toward the outer diameter of shaft. Its stress depends on the yield strength of gear. Press fitting is a method that generally squeezes gear toward that of shaft at room temperature by a press. Another method heats warmly gear and safely squeezes it toward that of shaft. Warm shrink fitting process for the automobile transmission part is now gradually increased, but the parts (shaft/gear) assembled by this process produced dimensional changes in both the outer diameter and profile of the gear. So that it may cause noise and vibration between gears. In order to solve these problems, we need an analysis of warm shrink fitting process, in which design parameters are involved; contact pressure according to fitting interference between outer diameter of shaft and inner diameter of gear, fitting temperature, and profile tolerance of gear. In this study, an closed form equation to predict contact pressure and fitting load was proposed in order to develop an optimization technique of the warm shrink fitting process and verified its reliability through the experimental results measured in the field and FEM, that is, thermal-structural coupled field analysis. Actual loads measured in the field was in good agreements with the results obtained by the theoretical and finite element analysis.
