  • It is necessary to determine the vibration source and its transmission paths in order to develop a low-noise compressor. Through the use of multiple-input/single-output(MISO) mode1, the transmission paths of vibration within a reciprocating compressor have been investigated. In order to identify the transmission path, we measure the accelerations of the block and transverse vibrations of the line discharge tube. As outputs, vibrations of compressor shell were measured at three positions; cylinder head, one near the suction line, and the top of upper shell. The partial coherence function and transfer function are obtained ken the measured data, and the results are observed in order to determine vibration source and its influence on the shell vibration.

  • A BEM program is developed for the performance analysis of axisymmetric mufflers. In the program the sub-region method is used to deal with singularity or inner boundary. The program is applied to typical axisymmjetric mufflers such as simple expansion, extended tube, perforated tube and absorptive expansion sufflers. The transmission losses of the mufflers are calculated by the program and compared with experiments. It is found that the prediction is in a good agreement with measurement, except for the absorptive muffler with parallel lining.

  • $SnO_2@carbon$ tube-core nanowire was synthesized via a facile self-organized method, which was in situ by one step via Chemical Vapor Deposition. The resulting composite was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscope. The diameter of the single nanowire is between 5 nm and 60 nm, while the length would be several tens to hundreds of micrometers. Then X-ray diffraction pattern shows that the composition is amorphous carbon and tin dioxide. Transmission electron microscope images indicate that the nanowire consists of two parts, the outer carbon tube and the inner tin dioxide core. Meanwhile, the possible growth mechanism of $SnO_2@carbon$ tube-core nanowire is also discussed.

  • Thirty one push-out tests were carried out in order to investigate the bond behavior between shape steel, steel tube (named steels) and recycled aggregate concrete (RAC), including 11 steel reinforced recycled aggregate concrete (SRRAC) columns, 10 recycled aggregate concrete-filled circular steel tube (RACFCST) columns and 10 recycled aggregate concrete-filled square steel tube (RACFSST) columns. Eleven recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) replacement ratios (i.e., 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% and 100%) were considered for SRRAC specimens, while five RCA replacement ratios (i.e., 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%), concrete type and length-diameter ratio for recycled aggregate concrete-filled steel tube (RACFST) specimens were designed in this paper. Based on the test results, the influences of all variable parameters on the bond strength between steels and RAC were investigated. It was found that the load-slip curves at the loading end appeared the initial slip earlier than the curves at the free end. In addition, eight practical bond strength models were applied to make checking computations for all the specimens. The theoretical analytical model for interfacial bond shear transmission length in each type of steel-RAC composite columns was established through the mechanical derivation, which can be used to design and evaluate the performance of anchorage zones in steel-RAC composite structures.

  • In this paper, derivation of the STL (Sound Transmission Loss) of the double plates installed in an impedance tube is discussed using an analytic method, where an air cavity exists between the plates. Vibration of the plates and sound pressure field inside the tube are expressed in terms of infinite series of modal functions. Under the plane wave assumption, it is shown that consideration of the first few modes yields sufficiently accurate results, and locations of peaks and dips are investigated. It is determined that the peak frequencies of the double plates coincide with those of each single plate. When the two plates are identical, the STL of the double plates as well as that of the single plate become zero at the natural frequencies of the single plate. The location and amplitude of the dips are investigated using an approximation solution when the cavity depth is very small.

  • X-ray fluorescence analysis has been widely used in the field of science and industry because it gives information about elements and their concentrations without destruction of samples. To increase analysis accuracy of fluorescence generated by photons of the transmission-type X-ray tube for mixture and compound samples would be recommend to have strong energy near 10 keV and 20 keV simultaneously. Tungsten of 9.65 keV and molybdenum of 17.48 keV were considered as targets with dual deposition structure for obtaining two strong characteristic X-rays, and the transmission-type X-ray tube was analyzed using Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation. The W-Mo structure resulted in strong characteristic X-ray near 10 keV and 20 keV simultaneously. A structure with Mo-W multilayers of 5 ㎛ thick also gave optimal spectrum. Various material combination and thickness optimization for the dual-structured target can give X-ray spectrum with strong characteristic X-ray of specific energies.

  • To measure the absorption ratio and the transmission loss of a material, a usage of the reverberation room has been popular. However, the reverberation room is expensive to build it and, sometimes, test procedure is not easy. Therefore, to get the data of absorption ratio, several possible technologies has been proposed using the tube. Among these technologies, with the analysis of the spectral density, a convenient method has been introduced to measure both the absorption ratio and transmission loss. The measured data has been compared with the results of the measurement at the reverberation room.

  • Underwater acoustic materials are installed in order to reduce reflection, transmission and radiation of an underwater structure. The acoustic performance of the materials should be evaluated in accurately-controlled environment in terms of temperature and static pressure. In this paper, three pulse tubes, which is equipped with temperature and pressure controllers, are designed and developed to evaluate echo reduction and transmission loss for evaluating the performance below 10 kHz and 30kHz, respectively. The new procedures of the evaluation are suggested to improve the accuracy and the validation for the developed pulse tubes is carried out by comparing theoretical values to experimental ones.

  • The object of this study is to develop the computer program to predict the transmission loss of a perforated tube muffler with mean flow, and to investigate the influence of porosity and mean flow on the performance of the muffler. The numerical model is made by dividing the muffler into small segments and estimating the transfer matrices for each segment. The computer program is developed for the calculation of the transmission loss of a through-or cross-flow perforated muffler. The experiment is performed for the measurement of the transmission loss and/or the pressure drop for various porosity and flow velocity. From the comparison between computation and experiment, is known that the numerical model agrees well with the experimental result. The effect of porosity and flow velocity on the acoustic performance and the flow resistance of a muffler is presented.

  • Propagation losses including bath transmission losses and bending losses of the flexible dielectric tube waveguide using commercial polymer substances for a short distance millimeter wave transmission are analytically predicted. The transmission loss and the bending loss are strongly dependent on the power flow distributions in each region. The obtained propagation tosses are compared with those of the commercial metal rigid and flexible waveguides.
