In this study, a space-time transmission scheme is proposed to tackle the limitations of channel estimation with orthogonal pilot information in colocated multiple-input multiple-output systems with several transmitting and receiving antennas. Channel information is obtained using orthogonal pilots. Channel estimation introduces pilot heads required to estimate a channel. This leads to bandwidth insufficiency. As a result, trade-offs exist between the number of pilots required to estimate a channel versus spectral efficiency. The detection of data symbols is performed using the maximum likelihood decoding method as it provides a consistent approach to parameter estimation problems. The moment-generating function of the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio is used to drive an approximate expression of the symbol error rate for the proposed scheme. Furthermore, the order of diversity is less by one than the number of receiver antennas used in the proposed scheme. The effect of the length of a pilot sequence on the proposed scheme's performance is also investigated.

This paper presents a new two-terminal numerical algorithm for fault location estimation using the synchronized phasor in time-domain. The proposed algorithm is also based on the synchronized voltage and current phasor measured from the PMUs (Phasor Measurement Units) installed at both ends of the transmission lines. In this paper, the algorithm is given without shunt capacitance and with shunt capacitance using II -model and estimated using DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) and LES (Least Error Squares Method). The algorithm uses a very short data window and classification for real-time transmission line protection. To verify the validity of the proposed algorithm, the Electro-Magnetic Transient Program (EMTP) and MATLAB are used.
This paper describes extended fault location algorithm using estimated remote source impedance. The method uses data only at the local end and the sequence current distribution factors for more accurate estimation. The proposed algorithm can respond to variation of the local and remote source impedance. Therefore, this method is especially useful for transmission lines interconnected to a wind farm that the source impedance varies continuously. The proposed algorithm is very insensitive to the variation in fault distance and fault resistance. The simulation results have shown the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
This paper investigates the performance of the transmission control protocol (TCP) transport protocol over IEEE 802.11 infrastructure based wireless networks. A wireless link is generally characterized by high transmission errors, random interference and a varying latency. The erratic packet losses usually lead to a curbing of the flow of segments on the TCP connection and thus limit TCP's performance. This paper examines the impact of the lossy nature of IEEE 802.11 wireless networks on the TCP performance and proposes a scheme to improve the performance of TCP over wireless links. A negative acknowledgment scheme, selective negative acknowledgment (SNACK), is applied on TCP over wireless networks and a series of ns-2 simulations are performed to compare its performance against that of other TCP schemes. The simulation results confirm that SNACK and its proposed enhancement SNACK-S, which incorporates a bandwidth estimation model at the sender, outperform conventional TCP implementations in 802.11 wireless networks.
In this paper, a newsynchronization technique applied to burst-mode communication is proposed. A synchronization technique is to estimate carrier frequency and phase offsets in a noisy channel environment. A fundamental problem for estimating the parameters(carrier phase and frequency offsets) in burst-mode transmission is that the ways of pursuing estimation accuracy and transmission efficiency are always trade-off. To solve this problem, a new carrier recovery technique is proposed to improve the transmission efficiency with reliable performance especially at low S/N. In the proposed technique, the synchronization parameters are first estimated based on a data-aided feed-forward estimation scheme. Then, a phase tracker using decision-directed DPLL estimates the phase offset for the data portion of the burst data. From simulation results, it shows fast synchronization with shorter preamble maintaining reasonable BER performance at low S/N.
In this paper, the performance of PRA (pel recurdive algorithm) and BMA(block matching algorithm), which are the most well-known motion estimation techniques, is compared and the effects of the motion estimation accuracy on the motion compensated coding are described. Results of computer simulation on the real images indicate that the TSS (three step search), which is one of the BMA,is slightly better than the PRA in terms of the accuracy however, the required bit rate is 6.6-8.2 Kbps higher that of the PRA because the TSS requires a transmission of motion estimation vectors.
Ride comfort of a vehicle is often determined by rubber bushes in suspension system. If transmission forces versus deformations across the bushes are available under operational conditions, improvement of the ride comfort could be done with more ease. Recently, the transmission forces are measured using custom-made force transducers inside the links. This study presents a feasibility study on estimation of the rubber bush deformations using vibration signals on the rigid links. Linear variable displacement transducers as well as piezoelectric accelerometers are used to expand frequency range to very low frequency, which cannot be done with accelerometers only. How to estimate the bush deformation from the two vibration signals on the links are presented together with experimental results.
In order to solve the problem of uncovered background region due to the region-due to the region-based motion estimation, this paper presents a new method which generates the uncovered region memory using motion estimation and shows the application of the algorithm for very low bit rate video coding. The proposed algorithm can be briefly described as follows it detects the changed region by using the information of FD(frame difference) and segmentation, and then as for only that region the backward motion estimation without transmission of shape information is done. Therefore, from only motion information the uncovered background region memory is generated and updated. The contents stored in the uncovered background region memory are referred whenever the uncovered region comes into existence. The regions with large prediction error are transformed and coded by using DCT. As results of simulation, the proposed algorithm shows the superior improvement in the subjective and objective image quality due to the remarkable reduction of transmission bits for prediction error.
This paper proposes the Fault Location Estimation Algorithm in the parallel transmission lines. These algorithm uses a variable data window method based on least square error method to estimate fault impedance quickly. And it selects the optimal equation according to the operation situation and usable fault data for minimizing the fault estimation error effected by the zero sequence mutual coupling. After simulation result, we can see that these algorithm estimates fault location more rapidly and exactly.
