In this study, the state-space Newmark method based on average velocity is presented to analyse the transient dynamic response for general dynamic system. The conventional Newmark method based on average acceleration cannot he directly to the first-order state-space differential equations introducing the state-space vector. To overcome this problem, the time-step integration algorithm, based on average velocity concept, suitable for the first-order state-space differential equations is proposed In results, the proposed method has %he numerical stability and order of accuracy, which is proved analytically, equal to those of the conventional Newmark method based on average acceleration. Also, the formulation for numerical solution is very simple and the calculation time Is nearly equal to that of the conventional Newmark method based on average acceleration in spite of an increase of two times over matrix size. This method will be look forward to applying the general dynamic system to calculate the transient dynamic response.

This paper discusses a method of measuring transient potential response of a corrosion interface to a small galvanostatic pulse perturbation for a rapid assessment of the corrosion rate of reinforcing steel in concrete structures. Measurements were taken on 100 mm sections of steel bars which were subjected to a wide range of corrosion conditions, from passive steel to actively corroding steel. The duration of the applied galvanostatic pulse was varied between 5s and 180s, and the lateral distance of the point of measurement on the steel bar varied from zero to 400 mm. The result of the electrochemical transient response was investigated using a typical sampling rate of 1 kHz. Analysis of the transient potential response to the applied galvanostatic pulse has enabled the separation of equivalent electronic components so that the components of a series of capacitances and resistances, whose values are dependent on the corrosion condition of the reinforcing steel, could be isolated. The corrosion rate was calculated from a summation of the separate resistive components, which were associated with the corrosion interface, and was compared with the corrosion rate obtained from linear polarization resistance (LPR) method. The results show that the galvanostatic pulse transient technique enables the components of the polarization resistance to be evaluated separately so as to give more reliable corrosion rate values than those obtained from the LPR method. Additionally, this paper shows how the galvanostatic pulse transient response technique can be implemented. An appropriate measurement time for passive and actively corroding reinforcing steel is suggested for the galvanostatic pulse transient response measurements in the field site.

In this Paper, we propose an accurate and stable solution of the transient electromagnetic response from three-dimensional arbitrarily shaped conducting objects by using a time domain magnetic field integral equation. This method does not utilize the conventional marching-on in time (MOT) solution. Instead we solve the time domain integral equation by expressing the transient behavior of the induced current in terms of temporal expansion functions with decaying exponential functions and Laguerre·polynomials. Since these temporal expansion functions converge to zero as time progresses, the transient response of the induced current does not have a late time oscillation and converges to zero unconditionally. To show the validity of the proposed method, we solve a time domain magnetic field integral equation for three closed conducting objects and compare the results of Mie solution and the inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) of the solution obtained in the frequency domain.

In order to decrease remarkably the computation time and storage used in the direct integration method without the loss of accuracy, authors suggest a new transient analysis algorithm. This algorithm is derived from the combination of three techniques, that is, the transfer technique of the transfer stiffness coefficient method, the modeling technique of the finite element method, and the numerical integration technique of the Newmark method. In this paper, the transient analysis algorithm of a frame structure is formulated by the proposed method. The accuracy and computation efficiency of the proposed method are demonstrated through the comparing with the computation results by the direct integration method for three computation models under various excitations.

This paper presents the transient response analysis of a rotating blade in resonant frequency range. It is shown that the modeling is considered in elastic foundation and friction damping effect. The equations of motion are derived and transformed into a dimensionless form to investigate general phenomena. Numerical results show that the magnitude of friction damping to reduce maximum transient response in near the critical angular speed. The method can be applied to a number of examples of the practical rotating blade system to minimize transient response in resonant frequency range.
The transient dynamic-response analysis of fuel-storage tanks of flying vehicles accelerating in the vertical direction is achieved with finite element method. A fuel-storage tank is a representative example of the fluid-structure interaction problem, in which structure and fluid media interact strongly. For the accurate analysis of this complicated fluid-structure system, we employed ALE(arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian) coupling method. Two types of fuel-storage tanks, one with two baffles and the other without baffle, are considered to examine the effect of baffles. The fuel-storage tank with baffles shows more uniform hydrodynamic pressure distribution, resulting effective stress in structural region and faster convergence from transient to steady states. MSC/Dytran, a commercial FEM software for the 3D coupled dynamic analysis, is used for this analysis.
This paper presents the time response of a mixed vibration system with the viscous damping and the hysteretic damping. There are two ways to derive the time response of such a vibration system. One is an analytical method, using the contour integral of complex functions to compute the inverse Fourier transforms. The other is an approximate method in which the analytic functions derived by Hilbert transform are expressed in the state space representation, and only the effective eigenvalues are used to efficiently compute the transient response. The unit impulse responses of the two methods are compared and the change in the damping properties which depend on the viscous and hysteretic damping values is investigated. The results showed that the damping properties of a mixed damping vibration system do not present themselves as a linear combination of damping properties.

In this paper dynamic responses of an engine, which is supported by hydraulic mount, to throttle tip-in/Tip out are analyzed. Because the hydraulic mounts have non-linearity that the characteristics of stiffness and damping vary with frequencies, it is difficult to analyze the dynamic behavior of an engine using general integral algorithms. Convolution integral and relationship between unit impulse response functions and frequency response functions are therefore used to simulate the transient behaviors of an engine indirectly. In time domain, impulse response functions are calculated by two-side discrete inverse courier transform of frequency response function achieved by laplace transform of equations of motion. Considering the fact that the shapes of behavior of an engine simulated by the proposed method are in good agreement with test results, it is confirmed that the proposed method is very effective for the analysis of transient response to throttle tip-in/out of an engine with hydraulic mounts.
This paper describes formulation for algorithm of time historical response analysis of vibration for straight-line structure. This method is derived from a combination of the transfer stiffness coefficient method and the Newmark method. And this present method improves the computational accuracy of the transient vibration response analysis remarkably owing to several advantages of the transfer stiffness coefficient method. We regarded the structure as a lumped mass system here. The analysis algorithm for the time historical response was formulated for the straight-line structure containing crooked, tree type system. The validity of the present method compared with the transfer matrix method and the Finite Element Method for transient vibration analysis is demonstrated through the numerical computations.
The theoretical method is developed to investigate the effects of ring stiffeners on free vibration characteristics and transient response for the ring stiffened composite cylindrical shells subjected to the impulse pressure loading. In the theoretical procedure, the Love's thin shell theory combined with the discrete stiffener theory to consider the ring stiffening effect is adopted to formulate the theoretical model. The concentric or eccentric ring stiffeners are laminated with composite and have the uniform rectangular cross section. The modal analysis technique is used to develop the analytical solutions of the transient problem. The analysis is based on an expansion of the loads, displacements in the double Fourier series that satisfy the boundary conditions. The effect of stiffener's eccentricity, number, size, and position on transient response of the shells is examined. The theoretical results are verified by comparison with FEM results.
