Fault-Tolerant Analysis of Redundancy Techniques in VLSI Design Environment

  • The advent of very large scale integration(VLSI) has had a tremendous impact on the design of fault-tolerant circuits and systems. The increasing density, decreasing power consumption, and decreasing costs of integrated circuits, due in part to VLSI, have made it possible and practical to implement the redundancy approaches used in fault-tolerant computing. The purpose of this paper is to study the many aspects of designing fault-tolerant systems in a VLSI environment. First, we expound upon the opportunities and problems presented by VLSI technology. Second, we consider in detail the importance of design mistakes, common-mode failures, and transient faults in VLSI. Finally, we examine the techniques available to implement redundancy using VLSI and the promlems associated with these techniques.

전류변성기의 포화 검출을 위한 알고리즘 개발 (Method for Detection of Saturation of a Current Transformer)

  • A Method for detection of saturation of a current transformer(CT) is proposed. The algorithm is initiated when the end point of a saturation period is detected. This detection is achieved by checking the time interval between the adjacent zero-crossing points of the second derivative of the secondary current. Once the end point of the saturation period is detected, the beginning point of the corresponding saturation period is determined by backward examination of the sum of the secondary current from the end point. The performance of the algorithm was evaluated for a-g faults on a 345 kV 100km overhead transmission line. The Electromagnetic Transient Program(EMTP) was used to generate fault current signals for different fault inception angles and different remanent fluxes. The performance evaluation shows that the proposed algorithm successfully detects the saturation period even in the presence of a remanent flux.

  • A distance relaying algorithm for detecting faults at power transmission line is presented in this paper. The algorithm is based on differential equation from relaton between voltage and current, which is composed of lumped resistance and inductance. During the fault transient state,the voltage and current signals are severely distorted due to the exponentially decaying DC offset and high frequency components, In spite of using small data, the presented integral method to evaluate R and L from voltage and current has high performance against these harmonics including DC offset. Therefore, the presented algorithm can be implemented with only a low order anti-aliasing analog filter and dosen't need any digital filter to remove specific components.

  • The two criteria to identify the disturbances of the power transformer has been reported in this paper. They have been derived through EMTP simulations of internal faults, inrush and overexcitation for the model of 154/22.9[kV], 40[MVA], Y-Y three-phase power transformer. We propose the crisp algorithm which uses two criteria. A series of test results clearly indicate that the method can identify not only an internal fault but also the other transients. The average of relay operation times is about 7.2[ms]. The proposed algorithm immunes to the transient state.

  • This paper presents a new numerical spectral domain algorithm devoted to blocking unsuccessful automatic reclosing onto permanent faults and fault distance calculation. Arc voltage amplitude and fault distance are calculated from the fundamental and third harmonics of the terminal voltages and currents phasors. From the calculated arc voltage amplitude it can be concluded if the fault is transient arcing fault or permanent arcless fault. If the fault is permanent automatic reclosure should be blocked. The algorithm can be applied for adaptive autoreclosure, distance protection, and fault location. The results of algorithm testing through computer simulation and real field record are given.

  • Recent trend of increasing automated factories needs supply of high quality power from the utilities. Among the items of the power quality, voltage sag can be compensated by Dynamic Voltage Restorer(DVR). The key feature of the DVR is high response with less transient period to recover from the voltage sag due to the lightning or line-to-ground faults. In this paper we report that H controller is very premising for the practical application to the controller of DVR.   • 체크포인터를 삽입한 실시간 시스템에서는 고장이 발생하면 고장 직전의 체크포인터로 회귀하여 태스크를 재실행함으로써 과도 고장을 효과적으로 극복할 수 있다. 이번 논문에서는 체크포인터에서 실행되는 데이터 저장과 고장 탐지 과정을 분리한 새로운 체크포인터 방식을 제안한다. 하나의 체크포인터 구간 내에 여러 개의 고장 탐지 과정을 추가하면 고장 발생에서 탐지까지의 지연 시간을 줄일 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 태스크가 데드라인 이내에서 성공적으로 수행될 확률을 최대화하는 고장 탐지 과정의 삽입 방법을 제안한다. 고장 탐지 과정이 분리된 체크포인터 방식을 마코프 체인으로 모델링하고 실시간 태스크의 성공적 수행 확률을 계산하는 모의실험을 수행하여 최적의 해를 구하는 과정을 제시한다.

  • 본 연구에서는 모듈형태의 배터리 충-방전기가 정상상태뿐만 아니라 과도상태에서 예기치 못한 결함이 발생할지라도 실패 없이 전원을 공급하는 것이 가능한 병렬형 양방향 컨버터로 설계되어졌다. 컨버터 모듈은 안정성, 성능 및 고신뢰성을 얻기 위해 독립적인 제어가 가능하도록 설계되었으며, 제어기를 위해 사용된 평균전류모드방식은 노이즈 면역, 빠른 응답 및 평균전류 신호 획득과 같은 장점을 갖는다. 병렬 연결된 배터리 충-방전기에 대한 등가모델이 제시되었으며, 충전연속모드, 방전연속/불연속 모드에 대한 전달함수가 분석되었다. 병렬 양방향 컨버터는 스텝 부하변화와 하나의 컨버터 모듈 실패에 대해 각각 수행되었다. 그리고 병렬 양방향 컨버터의 성능이 실험결과들을 통해 검증되었다.
