The analysis and evaluation of the transient performance by the transient response specifications under various acceleration speeds and types based on driver's typical acceleration habit are implemented by the experimental study to provide the appropriate direction for the transient control in a gasoline engine. The concept of the transient response specifications which consist of delay time, rising time, maximum overshoot and settling time, and the analysis method using them are introduced to evaluate the characteristics of the transient performance quantitatively. Furthermore four acceleration speeds and four acceleration types are set respectively to realize the various transient states which are similar to the real drive. Several performance parameters in terms of engine speed, manifold absolute pressure, fuel injection duration and air excess ratio are measured simultaneously during the various acceleration using a throttle actuator controlled by a PC. The transient response specifications characterized well the transient performance for the various acceleration speed and types quantitatively. Delay and rising time with increment of the acceleration speed became shorter, but settling time did longer. Intensified acceleration type appeared to be the most economical in view of fuel consumption, and linear acceleration type was found to have the least harmful emission concentration.

The current paper focuses on the analysis of transient cavitating flow in pressurised polyethylene pipes, which are characterized by viscoelastic rheological behaviour. A hydraulic transient solver that describes fluid transients in plastic pipes has been developed. This solver incorporates the description of dynamic effects related to the energy dissipation (unsteady friction), the rheological mechanical behaviour of the viscoelastic pipe and the cavitating pipe flow. The Discrete Vapour Cavity Model (DVCM) and the Discrete Gas Cavity Model (DGCM) have been used to describe transient cavitating flow. Such models assume that discrete air cavities are formed in fixed sections of the pipeline and consider a constant wave speed in pipe reaches between these cavities. The cavity dimension (and pressure) is allowed to grow and collapse according to the mass conservation principle. An extensive experimental programme has been carried out in an experimental set-up composed of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, assembled at Instituto Superior T$\acute{e}$cnico of Lisbon, Portugal. The experimental facility is composed of a single pipeline with a total length of 203 m and inner diameter of 44 mm. The creep function of HDPE pipes was determined by using an inverse model based on transient pressure data collected during experimental runs without cavitating flow. Transient tests were carried out by the fast closure of the ball valves located at downstream end of the pipeline for the non-cavitating flow and at upstream for the cavitating flow. Once the rheological behaviour of HDPE pipes were known, computational simulations have been run in order to describe the hydraulic behaviour of the system for the cavitating pipe flow. The calibrated transient solver is capable of accurately describing the attenuation, dispersion and shape of observed transient pressures. The effects related to the viscoelasticity of HDPE pipes and to the occurrence of vapour pressures during the transient event are discussed.

In this study, the high-temperature high-pressure vessel was successfully manufactured, which can be used to store pressurized air and to increase the temperature for the mix performance test of high-temperature high-pressure air with coolant (e.g., water). In this research, static structure analysis and transient thermal analysis were performed using the commercial software Midas NFX 2015 R1. Based on the results, the optimized pressure vessel design was carried out. As a result of the optimized design, the minimum stress and minimum weight were found at 120 mm of the vessel thickness, and the optimized pressure vessel was verified. Finally, through manufacture and performance test (e.g., the non-destructive inspection and hydraulic pressure test), the reliability and safety were validated for the designed pressure vessel.

The liquid disintegration and characteristics of atomization through the swirl nozzle is affected by injection pressure and injection time when the liquid is injected intermittently. These transient phenomena are investigated by electronic controlled-fuel injection nozzle. The effect of injection conditions on disintegration of liquid injected through nozzle is observed photographically by using delay circuit. Droplet size of the element of the sample is measured by the liquid immersion sampling technique. SMD of droplets is varied with time and is decreased as the injection pressure increases. As the injection pressure increases, the maximum diameter of droplet and diameter of droplet which has the maximum droplet number decrease. Spray angle is not affected on injection pressure and change of spray angle with time is associated with needle movement.
When a High Speed Train (HST) passes through a station with no stop, effects of wind pressure transients caused by this passing train have to be considered for the safety of passengers on the platform and for the possible structural safety problems as well. In Gwangmyeong and Daejeon stations of the Korean high speed railroad, tunnels inside stations for the passing train are proposed to reduce the noise and wind pressure transients to the passengers on the platform. In the present study, transient 3-D full Navier-Stokes solutions with moving mesh to implement train movement are obtained and compared with the results obtained by the towing tank experiment. Investigations on flow phenomena for various train speeds and design modifications are also performed.

The applications of the electrical transmission line theory to the pressure propagation characteristics in the volume loaded fluid transmission line with step and impulse input wave is demonstrated in this paper. The method is based on the premise that the time response is the inverse Fourier transform of frequency spectrum of the wave which spectrum is a product of frequency spectrum of input pressure wave and system transfer function. The frequency response and transient response of step and impulse input wave in the volume loaded fluid transmission line is analysed by the Laplace transform and inverse Laplace transform with FFT numerical algorithm. The numerical solution of the distributed friction model is compared with the average friction model and the infinite product model. And the result is showed that FFT method may have major advantages for the simulation of fluid circuitary.
This paper presents an individual cylinder spark advance control strategy based upon the location of peak pressure (LPP) in spark ignition engines using artificial neural networks. The LPP is estimated using a feedforward multi-layer perceptron network (MLPN), which needs only five samples of output voltage from the cylinder pressure sensor. The cyclic variation of LPP restricts the gain of the feedback controller, and results in poor regulation performance during the transient operation of the engine. The transient performance of the spark advance controller is improved by adding a feedforward controller which reflects the abrupt changes of the engine operating conditions such as engine speed and manifold absolute pressure (MAP)...
We have successfully used the low-pressure BioWare gene gun, developed for gene transfer in animal cells, for plant tissues. The BioWare device is easy to manipulate. Just 50 psi helium pressure was sufficient to transfer foreign genes into the aleurone layer and embryo of maize without causing tissue damage in the impact area. As shown by expression signals from invasive histochemical ${\beta}-glucuronidase$ (GUS) activity, the foreign reporter gene expressed well in bombarded tissues. This successful GUS-transient expression extends the application of this low-pressure gene gun from animal cells to plant tissues.
The use of LPG as clean fuel for Diesel engine is very attractive way to reduce soot and NOx emission. In this study, a numerical study has been done to know the transient behavior of LPG fuel in chamber pressures which is held at a pressure above (0.37MPa)and below(0.15MPa)the fuel vapor pressure. Results show that the vortex formed within the start of injection at the leading edge of the spray cone and was most apparent for 0.15MPa chamber pressure case. The high speed photographs and model results showed a narrower cone angle during the quasi-steady spray period at the 0.37MPa chamber pressure compared to the 0.15MPa case. And it can be shown that more realistic vaporization process is necessary to predict the spray length well.

Heat transfer coefficients and static pressure distributions on a gas turbine vane endwall were experimentally investigated in a 5 bladed linear cascade. The Reynolds number based on an axial chord length and the cascade exit velocity was 500,000. Both heat transfer and pressure measurements on the vane endwall were made at the two different turbulence intensity levels of 6.8% and 10.8%. Detailed heat transfer coefficient distributions on the vane endwall region were measured using a hue detection based transient liquid crystals technique. Results show various regions of high and low heat transfer coefficients on the vane endwall surface due to several types of secondary flows and vortices. Heat transfer coefficient and endwall static pressure distributions showed similar trends for both turbulence intensity, however, the averaged heat transfer coefficients for higher turbulence intensity case was higher than the lower turbulence intensity case by 15%.
