This paper also performs an optimal design of the slim type high frequency through core loss analysis, AC winding loss analysis, and optimization design of the winding arrangement of the LLC resonant transformer. Particularly, the high-efficiency and slim type high frequency transformer based on the obtained results from theoretical analysis in this paper is constructed in the interleaved and vertical winding structures of its transformer to realize the winding method of automatic type and minimize AC winding loss. The primary and secondary windings of the slim type high frequency transformer the vertical winding structure proposed in this paper used the Litz-wire windings, PCB and copper plate windings, respectively. Finally, an optimal design of the slim type high frequency transformer proposed in this paper was carried out through the experimental results to confirm the validity of theoretical analysis based on the simulation results using Maxwell 2D and 3D tool.

This paper also proposes the flyback transformer with the flat copper winding method of injection type capable of the winding method of automatic type and the reduction of transformer size and enhanced uniformity in electrical characteristics compared to the conventional mass-production flyback transformer with the winding method of manual type. In particular, the flat copper winding transformer of injection type proposed in this paper is constructed in a vertical winding method of its transformer to realize the winding method of automatic type. The primary and secondary windings of flyback transformer with the flat copper winding method of injection type used the conventional winding, triple insulated winding and the flat copper winding method of injection type, respectively. The optimal design of flyback transformer with the flat copper winding transformer of injection type proposed in this paper suitable for small-size and winding method of automatic type was carried out based on the simulation results using Maxwell 2D and 3D tool.

  • This paper deals with transformer turns ratio design with the consideration of loss minimization in isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter. Generally, the rms value of current, magnitude of current at switching instance, and duty ratio of a converter vary according to the turns ratio of an isolation transformer in the converter under the same voltages and output power level. Therefore, the transformer turns ratio has an effect on the total loss in a converter. The switching and conduction losses of IGBTs and MOSFETs consisting of dual-active bridge converter are analyzed, and iron and copper losses in an isolation transformer and inductor are calculated. Total losses are calculated and measured in cases of four different transformer turns ratios through simulation and experiment with 3-kW converter, and an optimum turns ratio that provides minimum losses is found. The usefulness of the proposed transformer turns ratio design approach is verified through simulation and experimental results.

  • Recently, the module-integrated converter has shown an interest in the photovoltaic generation system. In this system, the high frequency transformer should be compact and efficient. The proposed method is based on the correlation characteristic between the copper and core loss to minimize the loss of transformer. By sizing an effective cross-sectional area and window area of core, the amount of loss is minimized. This paper presents the design and analysis of high frequency transformer by using the 3D finite element model coupled with DC-DC converter circuit for more accurate analysis by considering the nonlinear voltage and current waveforms in converter circuit. The current waveform in each winding is realized by using the ideal DC voltage source and switching component. And, the thermal analysis is performed to satisfy the electrical and thermal design criteria.

  • This paper presents design and analysis of step-down piezoelectric transformer for application to AC-adapters. These transformers are consist of rectangular type and disk type multilayered piezoelectric ceramic plate. This piezoelectric transformer operated in third thickness resonance vibration mode. Finite element methode(FEM) was used for analysing transformer. Vibration mode and electric field of piezoelectric transformer were simulated at resonance frequency. As results, rectangular type transformer's output voltage was higher than the disk type. But disk type transformer's current was lagger than rectangular type. These results are assumed that disk type transformer's mixed vibration mode influence transformer's output characteristics. From these results, we expect that disk type piezoelectric transformer is more adoptable than rectangular plate type piezoelectric transformer for AC adapters.

  • The transformer used in an inverter type arc welding machine is designed to use high frequency in order to reduce its size and cost. Also, selecting core materials that fit frequency is important because core loss increases in a high frequency band. An inrush current can occur in the primary coil of transformer during arc welding and this inrush current can cause IGBT, the switching element, to burn out. The transformer design was carried out in $A_P$ method and amorphous core was used to reduce the size of transformer. In addition, sheet coil was used for primary winding and secondary winding coil considering the skin effect. This paper designed the transformer core with an air gap to prevent IGBT burnout due to the inrush current during welding and proposed the optimum air gap length.

  • A conventional power supply to drive a microwave oven has ferro-resonant transformer and high voltage capacitor(HVC). Though it is simple transformer is bulky heavy and has low-efficiency. To improve this defect a high frequency switching inverter-type power supply has been investigated an developed. in recent years. But because of it's additional circuit and devices inverter-type power supply is more expensive than conventional one. In this paper The design procedure of a novel HVC embedded high frequency transformer is proposed for down-sizing and cost reduction. Also transformer equivalent circuit model is derived by FEM analysis and parameter measurements. And the operation of proposed HVC embedded transformer is verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • Sewage treatment plants, consuming 1,756[GWh] which is 0.53[%] of national wide electricity consumption, is one of the electricity consuming facilites. At the research of electricity consumption and power quality analysis on sewage treatment plants, average utilization of transformer was less than 40[%] because peak load was very lower than its capacity due to excess capacity. So reduction of power loss can be achieved by transformer design optimization. The achievement in this research, is to meet reduction of power loss through optimizing the capacity and to improve as high efficiency-low loss transformer while the transformer is operating.

  • A high frequency and energy density pulse transformer is a critical component of a high voltage power supply in a traveling wave tube (TWT) amplifier system. In this paper, processes of design, manufacturing, and test of the transformer are discussed. Primary voltage of the transformer is 240 V. The transformer secondary have two outputs which are 4100 V (Helix) and 2050 V (Collector). Total output power is 860 W. Normal operating frequency of the transformer is 10 kHz. In high energy density pulse transformers, temperature rise is a main problem during its operation. From our study, it was found that resonant current due to leakage inductance and stray capacitance was the main cause of temperature rise. This happens because of the inherently high turn-ratio in high voltage transformers. Solutions to reduce stray components are presented.

  • In this study, it is the purpose to study about design and manufacture of a pulse transformer for using in pulse generator and a pulse laser system. In this experiment, a ferite core in transformer instead of air core is used. The performance of the transformer is demonstrated by a voltage pulse waveform according to inductance of primary and secondary in transformer. As a result, the voltage pulse width is increased as increasement of inductance in transformer. And the voltage rate between primary and secondary is almost same with rate of inductance between primary and secondary.
