  • When setting up a structure with an embedded shallow arch, there is a phenomenon where the end of the arch moves. To study the so-called moving domain problem, one try to transform a considered noncylindrical domain into the cylindrical domain using the transform operator, as well as utilizing the method of penalty and other approaches. However, challenges arise when calculating time derivatives of solutions in a domain depending on time, or when extending the initial conditions from the non-cylindrical domain to the cylindrical domain. In this paper, we employ the transform operator to prove the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions of the shallow arch equation on the moving domain as clarifying the time derivatives of solutions in the moving domain.

  • Wavelet transform technique is applied to two important electromagnetic problems:1) to analyze the frequency-domain radar echo from finite-size targets and 2) to the integral solution of two- dimensional electromagnetic scattering problems. Since the frequency- domain radar echo consists of both small-scale natural resonances and large-scale scattering center information, the multiresolution property of the wavelet transform is well suited for analyzing such ulti-scale signals. Wavelet analysis examples of backscattered data from an open- ended waveguide cavity are presented. The different scattering mechanisms are clearly resolved in the wavelet-domain representation. In the wavelet transform domain, the moment method impedance matrix becomes sparse and sparse matrix algorithms can be utilized to solve the resulting matrix equationl. Using the fast wavelet transform in conjunction with the conjugate gradient method, we present the time performance for the solution of a dihedral corner reflector. The total computational time is found to be reduced.

  • The ability to perform the same operations in the transform domain as in the spatial domain is important for efficient image transmission through a channel. We perform image resizing, which includes magnifying and reducing the size, in the discrete cosine transform(DCT) domain and the effects of the transform domain approach are analyzed in the corresponding spatial domain. Based on this analysis, the two resizing algorithms are proposed. The first one further compresses the images encoded by the compression standard by reducing the size before compression, and the other reduces the loss of information while maintaining the conventional compression rate. Because of its compatibility with standard codec, these algorithms can be easily embedded in JPEG and MPEG codecs, which are widely used for the purpose of image storage and transmission. Experimental results show a reduction of about half the bit size with similar image quality and about a 2- or 3-dB quality improvements in the similar compression rate.

  • This paper presents a method for registering images using phase correlation technique in fourier domain, hough transform and multi-resolution wavelet. To register images, source and input images are transformed to wavelet domain. An angular transition can be obtained by applying hough transform technique followed by phase correlation. Then we apply phase correlation technique to find x-axis and y-axis transition. We apply wavelet transform to reduce processing time and also use its coefficients as edge information instead of canny detector. With multi-resolution property of wavelet transform, registration time can be greatly reduced. After we get all transition parameters, we transform the input images according to these parameters. Then, we compose and blend all images into a new large image with details of all source images. From our experiment, we can find the accurate transition both x-y translation and angular transition with less error.

  • This paper presents an active noise control algorithm via Walsh transform domain controller learned by genetic algorithm. Typical active noise control algorithms such as the filtered-x lms algorithm are based on the gradient algorithm. Gradient algorithm have two major problems; local minima and eigenvalue ratio. To solve these problems, we propose a combined algorithm which consist of genetic learning algorithm and discrete Walsh transform called Walsh Transform Domain Genetic Algorithm(WTDGA). Analyses and computer simulations on the effect of Walsh transform to the genetic algorithm are performed. The results show that WTDGA increase convergence speed and reduce steady state errors.

  • In general, transform domain adaptive filters show faster convergence speed than the time domain adaptive filters, but the amount of calculation increases dramatically as the filter order increases. This problem can be solved by making use of the subband structure in transform domain adaptive filters. In this paper, to increase the convergence speed on the generalized subband decomposition FIR adaptive filters, a structure of the adaptive filter with subfilter of dyadic sparsity factor in wavelet transform domain is designed. And, in this adaptive filter, the equivalent input in transform domain is derived and, by using the input, the convergence properties for the LMS algorithm is analyzed and evaluated. By using this sub band adaptive filter, the inverse system modeling and the periodic noise canceller were designed, and, by computer simulation, the convergence speeds of the systems on LMS algorithm were compared with that of the subband adaptive filter using DFT(discrete Fourier transform).

  • As a generalization of the Fourier transform, the fractional Fourier transform plays an important role both in theory and in applications of signal processing. We present a new approach to reach a uniform sampling theorem in the shift-invariant spaces associated with the fractional Fourier transform domain.

  • We introduce a fast implementation of the adaptive transversal filter which uses least-mean-square(LMS) algorithm. The fast Hadamard transform(FHT) is used for the implementation of the filter. By using the proposed filter we can get the significant time reduction in computatioin over the conventional time domain LMS filter at the cost of a little performance. By computer simulation, we show the comparison of the propsed Hadamard-domain filter and the time domain filter in the view of multiplication time, mean-square error and robustness for noise.

  • In order to accurately estimate the seismic behavior of buildings, it is important to consider both nonlinear characteristics of the buildings and the frequency dependency of the soil impedance. Therefore, transform methods of the soil impedance in the frequency domain to the impulse response in the time domain are needed because the nonlinear analysis can not be carried out in the frequency domain. The author has proposed practical transform methods. In this paper, seismic response analyses considering frequency dependent soil impedance in the time domain are shown. First, the formulation of the proposed transform methods is described. Then, the linear and nonlinear earthquake response analyses of a building on 2-layered soil were carried out using the transformed impulse responses. Through these analyses, the validity and efficiency of the methods were confirmed.

  • In this paper, we propose a new scheme to suppress the narrowband interference (NBI) in OFDM-based systems. The scheme utilizes code division multiple access (CDMA) and weighted-type fractional Fourier transform (WFRFT) domain preprocessing technologies. Through setting the WFRFT order, the scheme can switch into a single carrier (SC) or a multi-carrier (MC) frequency division multiple access block transmission system. The residual NBI can be eliminated to the maximum extent when the WFRFT order is selected properly. Final simulation results show that the proposed system can outperform MC and SC with CDMA and frequency domain preprocessing in terms of the narrowband interference suppression.
