In this paper, we present a design and an evaluation of a hand-held ball based haptic interface, named "TouchBall." Using a trackball mechanism, the device provides flexibility in terms of directional degrees of freedom. It also has an advantage of a direct transfer of force feedback through frictional touch (with high sensitivity), thus requiring only relatively small amount of inertia. This leads to a compact hand-held design appropriate for mobile and 3D interactive applications. The device is evaluated for the detection thresholds for directions of the force feedback and the perceived amount of directional force. The refined directionality information should combine with other modalities with less sensory conflict, enriching the user experience for a given application.

Atomically thin $MoS_2$ single crystals have a two-dimensional structure and exhibit semiconductor properties, and have therefore recently been utilized in electronic devices and circuits. In this study, we have fabricated a field effect transistor (FET), using a CVD-grown, 3 nm-thin, $MoS_2$ single-crystal as a transistor channel after transfer onto a $SiO_2/Si$ substrate. The $MoS_2$ FETs displayed n-channel characteristics with an electron mobility of $0.05cm^2/V-sec$, and a current on/off ratio of $I_{ON}/I_{OFF}{\simeq}5{\times}10^4$. Application of bottom-gate voltage stresses, however, increased the interface charges on $MoS_2/SiO_2$, incurred the threshold voltage change, and degraded the device performance in further measurements. Exposure of the channel to UV radiation further degraded the device properties.

In this paper, Implementation of location estimation system using wireless communication technology based on Zigbee. Using wireless communication technology, calculation more accurate location information and service location information to the H/W and S/W has been developed. Receivers, repeaters, smart tag(location device), was developed for implement a location estimation system. The smart tag is built the 120~130KHz, 13~14MHz, 2.0~3.0GHz radio frequency tag. Receiver and repeater is applied to the tag module to recognize the location device's active RFID tags transmit a wireless signal for tag identification. Common Entrance control system in contact with a smart tag, It was implemented to transfer the value of the tag to the access control server over a LAN.
ABCV-Py, a new red fluorescent material, in which two identical electron donor (dimethylamino group) and acceptor (cyano group) moieties are linked to two independent biphenyl groups which share the same core phenyl, has been synthesized for use in OLED application. Performance of red doped electroluminescent devices using ABCV-Py as dopant were measured with various host materials, $Alq_3$, CBP, DPVBi, and p-terphenyl. The performance of device with DPVBi host material was better than those with other host materials and high doping concentration could be applied on device with ABCV-Py as dopant.
We investigated a Ti:LiNbO$_3$ based integrated-optic polarization controller with a Ti-indiffused waveguide along the z-axis utilizing the electro-optic effect. The device consists of a first quarter-wave (λ/4) phase-shifter followed by a half-wave(λ/2) and a second quarter-wave(λ/4) wave-plate, which is rotated synchronously with the first quarter-wave phase-shifter. We analyzed the operation principles of the device utilizing cascaded transfer matrices based on Jones matrix and Poincare sphere, simulated driving voltages for various input states of polarization (SOP), and theoretically confirmed transformations from any arbitrary input SOP into any general output SOP.

This paper proposes a new AC/DC RPPB(Resonant Piezo-Powered Boost) converter for energy harvesting using a piezoelectric device which converts mechanical vibration energy to electrical energy. The AC/DC RPPB converter can operate with only the harvested energy without an additional power conversion circuit for switching circuit and transfer energy to a load of which the voltage is higher than piezoelectric voltage. With the review of published topologies of the converter for energy harvesting, the operation principle of the AC/DC RPPB converter, and the results of PSPICE simulation and experiment are presented to prove the feasibility of the new converter for the energy harvesting.
For the full color organic electro-luminescent device, essentially, red, green, and blue emissions are required. But red emission is not to reach minimum level of practical use 31[lm/W]. In order to optimize color purity and power consumption requirements, it is important for the materials development efforts to search for improvements in red emission effisiency. In this study, the bis(8-oxyquinolino)zinc II ($Znq_2$) were synthesized successfully from zinc chloride($ZnCl_2$) as a initial material. Then, we fabricated red organic electroluminescent device with a dye(DCJTB)-doped and inserted $Znq_2$ between emission layer and cathode layer for increasing EL efficiency. The hole transfer layer is a N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis-(3-methyl phenyl) -1,1'-diphenyl-4.4'-diamine(TPD), and the host material of emission layer is $Znq_2$. For the inserting of $Znq_2$, efficiency increased.
Geographic Information System(GIS) has become an essential tool for making efficient interaction with both natural and artificial envirionment. Currently, it is being used on an inteligent tool in many device like the personal digital assistant(PDA) and the cellular phone and so on. However, these devices show very low performance comparing to a personal computer(PC). These devices(PDA, celluar phone) posses a less powered device profile. The less powerful hardware make these devices in capable to handle GIS based large spacial data. In this paper, we propose a new concept of multi-tier GIS oriented architecture to improve the data transfer performance providing only the necessary information required by the user using semantic filter.

An efficient cooling system is an essential part of the electronic packaging such as a high-luminance LED lighting. A special technology, Pulsating Heat Pipe (PHP), can be applied to improve cooling of a sealed, explosion-proof LED light fixture. In this paper, the characteristics of the pulsating heat pipes in the imposed thermal boundary conditions of LED lightings were experimentally investigated and a PHP device that works free of alignment angle was investigated for cooling of explosion-proof LED lights. Five working fluids of ethanol, FC-72, R-123, water, and acetone were chosen for comparison. The experimental pulsating heat pipe was made of copper tubes of internal diameter of 2.1 mm, 26 turns. A variable heat source of electric heater and an array of cooling fins were attached to the pulsating heat pipe. For the alignment of the heating part at bottom, an optimum charging ratio (liquid fluid volume to total volume) was about 50% for most of the fluids and water showed the highest heat transfer performance. For the alignment of the heating part on top, however, only R-123 worked in an un-looped construction. This unique advantage of R-123 is attributed to its high vapor pressure gradient. Applying these findings, a cooling device for an explosion-proof type of LED light rated 30 W was constructed and tested successfully.

In this paper, the complexity analysis for implementation of the PM-store is performed in terms of the number of instruction cycles which is executed by CPU in a personal health device(PHD) in order to transfer the large amount of the periodically generated measurement data using the PM-store concept defined in ISO/IEEE 11073 PHD standards. We propose an analytic model that is focused on the number of instruction cycles executed by CPU depending on the PM-store hierarchy.
