  • This paper analyzes the steady-state and dynamic characteristics of the watkings-johnson converter. the major contributions of this paper includ identification of the following characteristics unique to the watkins-johnson converter: (1) The output voltage of the converter is nearly constant at the continous conduction mode (CCM), and at discontinousou conduction mode (DCM) it decreses linerly as the output curretn increases. (2) The control-to-output transfer function is a second-order one with a left-half-plane (LHP) zero determined by the combination of the output capacitor and equivalent series resistor of the converter. This LHP zero signinificantly improves the stability of the converter. (3) The control-to-output transfer function reduces to a first-order one, as the converter moves from CCM to DCM. (4) The parastic resistance of the inductor does not cause any significant influence on poles and zeros of the transfer function.

  • In this paper, we propose the enhanced priority control algorithm that adaptively controls the cell service ratio according to the relative cell occupancy ratio of buffer. The asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) provides the means to support various multimedia services in broadband networks. To support multimedia services, various data traffics of different priorities should be controlled effectively. And also it needs congestion control functions required in the netowrk to carry out the control operation. To accomplish this in a flexible and effective manner, priority classes for the different services ar ecommonly used. The proposed enhanced priority control mechanism have two service calsses of the delay sensitive class and the loss sensitive class. The simulation results show that te proposed control mechanism improves the QoS, the charateristics of cell loss probability and mean cell delay time, by selecting propeor relativ ecell occupancy ratio of buffer and the average arrival rate.

  • Inductive power transfer (IPT) systems for electric vehicles generally require zero phase angle (ZPA) frequency tracking control to achieve high efficiency. Current sensors are used for ZPA frequency tracking control. However, the use of current sensors causes several problems, such as switching noise, degrading control performance, and control complexity. To solve these problems, this study proposes ZPA frequency tracking control without current sensors. Such control enables ZPA frequency tracking without real-time control and achieves stable zero voltage switching operation closed to ZPA frequency within all coupling coefficient and load ranges. The validity of the proposed control algorithm is verified on LCCL-S topology with a 3.3 kW rating IPT experimental test bed. Simulation verification is also performed.

  • An experimental study was conducted to investigate the fouling effects of geothermal water scale deposited onto a heating surface upon its forced convection heat transfer characteristics. Scales deposited onto the heating surfaces of heat exchangers seriously reduce the heat transfer perfor-mance and also increase the hydrodynamic drag. Accordingly fouling is an important problem in the design and operation of heat exchangers. The cylinders were settled in tandem with equal dis-tance between neighbouring cylinders and only the test cylinder was heated under the condition of constant heat flux. The Reynolds number was varied from 13000310 through 50003100. It is found that the heat transfer of the in-line tube banks greatly varies with the fouling of geothermal water scale especially its scale height. Further the local and average Nusselt numbers strongly depend upon the cylinder spacing and the Reynolds number.

  • A heat exchanger using two-phase loop thermosyphons was developed as a waste heat recovery system. An experimental study was carried out on the heat transfer characteristics of two-phase loop thermosyphons heat exchanger and the results from the experiments were used to see the possibility which the two-phase loop thermosyphons could be an alternate solution for waste heat recovery system. In the present work, R134a has been used as the working fluid and the filling rate do working fluid and heat flux have been used as the experimental parameters. The results show that the filling rate of working fluid and heat flux are very important factors for the operation of two-phase loop thermosyphons. The experimental results showed the provisional results as a waste heat recovery system.

  • In order to define the heat transfer characteristics in a spray column direct contact heat exchanger, the development of a multidimensional numerical model and computational algorithm is essential to analyze the inherent multidimensional characteristics of a direct contact heat exchanger. In the present study, it has been carried out numerical calculations using a two-dimensional model for operation of a direct contact heat exchanger. Such operational and system parameters as the injection velocity, void fraction, aspect ratio and injection temperature of each fluid are examined thoroughly to assess their influence on the performance of a spray column. Analyzed results has shown that our two-dimensional model predicts the heat transfer phenomena well in a spray column.

  • A class E power oscillator is demonstrated for 6.78-MHz wireless power transfer system. The oscillator is designed with a class E power amplifier to use an LC feedback network with a high-Q inductor between the input and the output. Multiple capacitors are used to minimize the variation of the oscillation frequency by capacitance tolerance. The gate and drain bias voltages with opposite characteristics to make the frequency shift of the oscillator are connected in a resistance distribution circuit located at the output of the low drop-out regulator and supplied bias voltages for class E operation. The measured output of the class E power oscillator, realized using the co-simulation, shows 9.2 W transmitted power, 6.98 MHz frequency and 86.5% transmission efficiency at the condition with 20 V $V_{DS}$ and 2.4 V $V_{GS}$.

  • In this paper, a Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) employed in an electric vehicle (EV) is designed using the finite element method (FEM). The static torque of the SRM is estimated through magnetic field analysis. The SRM temperature rise over operation time is estimated through heat transfer analysis. First, static torque and temperature rise over the time of 600W SRM is included in the experiment set, and are compared with the calculated results using the FEM under the same conditions. The validity of the magnetic field analysis and heat transfer analysis is verified by the comparisons. In addition, a 60 [kW] SRM employed in an EV, whose output characteristics are equal to a 1500 [cc] gasoline engine, is designed under magnetic field analysis and heat transfer analysis.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the optimized transfer algorithm of earthwork considering the precluded area such as the lake, bogs. The earthwork transfer plan in massive cutting and banking should be established because of affecting the construction cost highly. Until now, there was the study about the optimized earthwork transfer model considering the OR(Operating Research). but isn't the study about the model considering the precluded area such as the lake, bogs. In most cases, the engineer adjusts the earthwork transfer path considering the precluded area, manually. The presented model suggests to calculate various visibility paths with $A^*$algorithm after converting the precluded area to polygon topology. By using this paths, the minimum cost path to optimize the earthwork transfer can be obtained. In this study, the validity of the model was proved as implementing the system for the optimized earthwork transfer considering the precluded area.

  • Heat transfer oils are used in applications such as chemical plant heating systems, refinery heat exchange systems, certain gas processes, injection molding systems, and pulp and paper processing. These oils are extremely stable and resistant to thermal and oxidative degradation. In the event of a spill or accidental release of heat transfer oils, it can be ignited easily when there is an ignition source. This study discusses the status of safety management through the actual status of the heat transfer oils to prevent fire and explosion accidents in industries for process safety management. The actual status of the heat transfer oils in process system of industries surveyed by a questionnaire developed. The results of this study can be used to help establishment of safety management to prevent fire and explosion accidents, such as the management of heat transfer oils, safe operation and maintenance in heat transfer oil processes.
