Construction of Integrated Signalling System for Next-generation High-Speed Train (한국형 고속전철용 신호시스템 시제품의 시험을 위한 통합신호시스템 구축)

  • The railway signaling system consists of several vital computerized equipments. Now the project for development of signaling system for the next-generation high-speed train is progressed according to the consortium. The developing signaling system by this project, kTCS(Korean Train Control System), is composed of kTCS-CTC, kTCS-IXL, kTCS-ATC and etc. The KTCS signaling has to be operated as a integrated system by interface between each signaling. To achieve these, communication protocols between each signaling have to be designed and message codes are defined. In this paper the configuration of integrated kTCS system and designed communication protocol is presented.

  • Driverless Train Control System has been recently introduced and commercialized in Korea. It is expected that the vehicle with driverless operation system will be used in new lines such as Sinbundang line soon. Therefore it is necessary to change the system operation and conception of the existing train operation system and the necessity of driverless vehicle monitoring system meeting a new paradigm is rising. In order to dispel concerning about safety issues caused by driverless train operation, the importance to establish vehicle error detection, useful fault diagnosis and rapid action plans is higher than ever. For this, efficient and higher level of vehicle supervision & control system should be essentially supported. In this study, remote driverless vehicle monitoring system using by radio communication is suggested to be used for monitoring and controlling important parts of the vehicle and diagnose and take quick actions when vehicles are in trouble at control tower at real time.

  • Electronic devices in railway vehicle perform various functions such as not only braking and propulsion but also monitoring of vehicle condition, on-line diagnosis, and passenger information service, etc. These devices, distributed in vehicle, should be efficiently connected so as to properly perform the functions. IEC (International Electro-Technical Commission) standardized train communication network (TCN) as IEC 61375-1, -2. TCN can reduce the interconnecting work load by reducing the number of wire-line, compared with existing hard-wire connection, and it brings the efficient control by enabling various devices to share the information. But existing TCN can not satisfy the increasing service demands like passenger internet access and CCTV surveillance, etc. In this paper, we investigate ECN (Ethernet Consist Network) and ETN (Ethernet Train Backbone) which are proposed to satisfy these demands and in the process of standardization by IEC TC9 WG43.

  • Existing ATC/ATO/TWC system has a ATC(Automatic Train Control) antenna for receiving the speed code, a ATO(Automatic Train Operation) antenna for obtaining the exact distance to go to platform and TWC(Train and Wayside Communication) antenna for communication between on-board and wayside system. This paper proposes the ATO/TWC antenna with tele-powering module, telegram transmitter/receiver module. This antenna communicates with a passive type tag(wayside Precision Stop Marker) for the information of distance from the stop position and a active type tag for the door command and status in the platform.

  • The airport needs fast and reliable transporter to transfer goods from airport to other cities. In the past, a highway was a main transporter for those function of the airport but recently, electrical train becomes main part of transporter due to its high efficiency, convenience and advantage of auto-pilot. However electrical train produce electromagnetic field and many kinds of radio communication system are existing in the airport. So, some electromagnetic interference can be existed between the railway system installed nearby the airport and the radio-communication systems of the airport. Therefore, effects of electromagnetic interference between them need to be estimated by actual field test.

  • Presently metro in our county has higher rate of passengers as a public transportation of urban area than other transportations. And road is under very restrictive condition to be expanded in many aspects because the streets are completely choked. Therefore increase of capacity in metro and reduction of headway has been seriously required and utmost efforts has been taken by related fields to meet the requirements. The concept of CBTC system came out from this background. CBTC system can be implemented to detect the train location without using the track circuits. It has many advantages in aspects of signalling equipments build-up and maintenance. This study investigated examples of radio communication system and applicable standard norms in other countries. And it also reviewed the suggestion for the establishment of radio frequency and radio network to be considered for application train control system by radio under Korean metro environment.

  • Improvement is required to solve problems depending on long term use of signal equipment in the existing city railroad and to raise quality of passenger services. Accordingly, for more efficient improvement, we examined the procedure of executing construction of the communication based train control system in Korean city railroads, which is globally studied. The procedure of executing construction of the system is to present a plan for construction first of ail and then to prepare a strategy for construction of the system. It is required to establish a procedure for execution in each step depending on the prepared strategy and then to establish a detailed execution plan. We studied such an execution procedure, divided the execution procedure for application of the train control system through five steps to prepare the execution procedure.

  • In railway systems, the exchange of information between running trains and wayside equipment is a very important role in various applications such as position detection and train control. Track circuits have been used as the medium for information transmission between trains and wayside. However, track circuits must be installed continuously along the track on the ground, resulting in an inevitable increase in installation and maintenance costs. One of the most promising solutions to reduce these costs is to mix continuous information transmission (via wireless communication) and discontinuous information transmission (via transponder). In this study, we designed antennas of railway high-speed transponder readers and tags for wireless power transmission, which can be used to transmit information from ground to high-speed trains with a maximum speed of 400km/h. We also verified system performance through computational simulation and prototyping.

  • JP Nagoya. Inc started special work(passenger order} to transmit information to the passenger from 2001 following the eastern area' heavy rain in 2000. They introduced 'Passenger Information System' which uses self communication network(LAN, PHS) mainly and wire/wireless and internet jointly. As an information transmission method of this system, there is "train information transmission using PHS" which transmits info to LED display in special train. This system configured by adding new equipments and using existing equipments, network in maximum, this study reviewed the system, which transmits real time operation condition unified by these passenger order to passenger in high quality, more promptly.

  • This paper describes the system implementation of TMS(Train Management System) to be applied to a TTX(Korea Tilting eXpress). For better safety and reliability of vehicle, increased quantity and fast transmission of data between TC(Train Computer) and CC(Car Computer) and control equipment of train is required. To satisfy these requirements, this system uses RTOS(Real Time OS) so that do realtime data management, And it is implemented to minimize the noise inflow and a signal level reduction of the communication line. Also it is designed to suitable interface of a TTX vehicle and is verified by laboratory test.
