Analysis on Pedestrian Behavior Focused on Waiting Time and Trial Frequency for Crossing in the Unsignalized Intersection (비신호 교차로에서 횡단 기다림 시간 및 시도횟수에 관한 보행행태 연구)

  • This study analyzes the factors effecting on pedestrian crossing behavior in the unsignalized intersection. Pedestrian crossing behavior is the results of mental stress defined as a combination of environment perception, avoiding accidents, halting collision, and instant crossing decision. It is necessary to make walkable intersection in cities through relieving this stress influenced by personality, traffic condition, and roadway environment. The purpose of study is empirically to examine the crossing behavior such as crossing satisfaction, crossing trial frequency and waiting time based on various factors effecting on crossing intersection by video and questionnaire survey. The $x^2$-test is applied to analyze the characteristics of crossing trial frequency according to each factor. Also, the hazard rate model is established to find the factors effecting on waiting time for crossing. Finally, the direct and indirect effects on the pedestrian crossing satisfaction are presented as the results of LISREL.

A Study on the GIS Analysis Techniques for Finding an Catchment Area by Public Transport at Railway Stations Using Transport Cards Big Data (교통카드 빅 데이터를 활용한 철도역의 대중교통 연계영향권 설정을 위한 GIS 분석 기법 연구)

  • Currently, there are 499 metropolitan subway stations in Korea, but there are not many studies on the influence zone of linkage between railway station and public transport. Existing studies have been studied almost in terms of accessibility.. In addition, the existing research on the influence zone of linkage using survey data and statistics, there is a limit to the theoretical basis and analysis techniques. In this paper, we propose a new method to select on the influence zone of linkage, It is a GIS analysis technique using the spatial data of the railway station user as the large data of the traffic card. We applied the GIS analysis technique for select the influence zone of linkage based on the travel time of the network for each public transportation system. As a result, it was confirmed that the influence of the link of 15 minutes on the local bus, 20 minutes on the city bus and 25 minutes on the intercity bus were clearly distinguished according to the difference in network access time.

Emergency Department Nurses' Recognition of and Educational Needs for Forensics Nursing Education (응급실 간호사의 법의간호 교육에 대한 인식과 요구도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this survey was to investigate emergency department nurses' recognition of forensics nursing and their educational needs for forensics nursing education. Methods: Data were collected via questionnaires from 167 emergency department nurses who were working in 7 university hospitals. Nurses' experiences of trauma or accidents and their recognition of and educational needs for forensic nursing education were assessed. Results: All subjects reported having suffered bodily injury due to falling or serious traffic accidents; 92.2% reported having suffered bodily injury caused by suicide attempts; 91.6% reported having experienced physical violence or abuse; 76.0% reported having experienced sexual assault or abuse; 68.9% reported having experienced some difficulties during their nursing care due to lack of forensics knowledge; and 88.6% reported never having been trained in forensics nursing. The educational needs score for "forensics nursing" was 3.61; the needs score for "abuse- and violence-related education" was 3.65; the needs score for "incident data collection related education" was 3.47; and the needs score for "forensics theory related education" was 3.34. Conclusion: The findings of the study underscore a strong need to develop an educational program on forensics nursing for emergency department nurses.

  • As the rapid increase of highway investments from Private sector the organizations of highway operator became diversified, and thus causing various unexpected problems. Highways invested by private capitals have different fare rates and managing systems. It is desirable to reduce drivers' inconvenience using more than two sections of highways spread over different jurisdictions. The main purposes of this research are i) data survey and problem statements ii) prediction of future problems and preparing appropriate countermeasures. This research are divided into two parts. They are management system and fare collection system. Major investigations of this study are as follows, optimum toll operation models depend on charging systems and interchange shapes of two interconnecting expressways. Assuming that the current payment and the new electronic payment system aye used concurrently for a while, some alternatives for the inter-operation to collect tolls ate suggested focusing on the efficiency to tollway corporations as well as convenience to drivers. The advantages and disadvantages of the alternatives, including their characteristics, are compared.

Age-related Injury Profile in Childhood (소아환아의 연령별 손상특성)

  • Purpose: Injuries are the most important cause of morbidity and mortality in the childhood population worldwide. Thus, this study was down to investigate the type and the severity of injuries according to the age group in childhood. Methods: A survey of injury information and a chart review were done on 378 children (257 boys, 121 girls) who visited the Emergency Departments of Asan Medical Center from March 1, 2009, to March 31, 2009. To determine differences in injury mechanism, accident place, injury site, New Injury Severity Score (NISS) and Pediatric Trauma Score (PTS), we divided the 378 patients into 4 group: under 1 year, 1 to 4 years, 5 to 9 years, and 10 to 15 years. Results: The mean (${\pm}SD$) age of the study group was 5.1 (${\pm}4.4$) years. Two year olds formed the largest group of injured children, with 77 cases (20.4% of the total). The most common cause of injury in childhood was being hit by an object (26.2%). Falls were frequent in the under-1-year group (22.2%) and slip downs (30.1%) were more frequent in 1-to-4-year group. More than half (53.4%) of the injuries occurred in the home, and the most common places of home-related injuries were the living room (41.1%) and the bedroom (31.2%). The mean (${\pm}SD$) NISS was 1.5 (${\pm}1.8$), and traffic accidents had the highest NISS ($2.8{\pm}5.1$). Injuries occurred most frequently during the evening. The peak period was 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM (33.7%). Conclusion: Patterns of childhood injury by age group were considerably different, and less severe and nonhospitalized injuries were common. Thus, need to improve surveillance of a variety of injuries, promote intersectional collaboration, build institutional capacities and mobilize community support and policy as an investment in prevention.

The Characteristics of Vehicle Speed Violation in School Zones (어린이 보호구역에서의 차량 속도위반 특성 분석)

  • Since speed limit enforcement in school zones is the most important to reduce the occurrence of severe child related accidents, school zones typically have a speed limit of 30km/h. However, it is found that the majority of vehicles passing school zones are traveling over 30km/h. This indicates that school zones are not being effectively operated to achieve the main objective which is the reduction of child related accidents. This study aims to identify the factors affecting the violation of speed limits in school zones through the results of field survey from 8 elementary schools. The results showed that time period, the number of lanes, the width of sidewalks, and the status of colored pavement were found to be highly associated with the violation of speed limits in school zones at the 95% significance level. The results of this study may provide some insights for making safe environments around schools.

Rare Imaging of Fat Embolism Seen on Computed Tomography in the Common Iliac Vein after Polytrauma

  • Fat embolism refers to the presence of fat droplets within the peripheral and lung microcirculation with or without clinical sequelae. However, early diagnosis of fat embolism is very difficult because the embolism usually does not show at the computed tomography as a large fat complex within vessels. Forty-eight-year-old male with pedestrian traffic accident ransferred from a local hospital by helicopter to the regional trauma center by two flight surgeons on board. At the rendezvous point, he had suffered with dyspnea without any airway obstruction sign with 90% of oxygen saturation from pulse oximetry with giving 15 L of oxygen by a reserve bag mask. The patient was intubated at the rendezvous point. The secondary survey of the patient revealed multiple pelvic bone fracture with sacrum fracture, right femur shaft fracture and right tibia head fracture. Abdominal computed tomography was performed in 191 minutes after the injury and fat embolism with Hounsfield unit of -86 in his right common iliac vein was identified. Here is a very rare case that mass of fat embolism was shown within common iliac vein detected in computed tomography. Early detection of the fat embolus and early stabilization of the fractures are essential to the prevention of sequelae such as cerebral fat embolism.

A model of a relative evaluation of the transfer distance between two modes (환승센터의 두 수단간 환승거리의 상대적 적정성 평가)

  • One of the problems we face up at the time of planning or improving a transportation transfer facility is which modes and how close we have to put together. The goal here is to keep the connecting transportation mode as close as possible to the prime transit mode, so people travel a minimum transfer path, a distance from one mode to another. Too much a physical separation between modes will limit, even with an intensive improvement of the component links, the level of service of a transfer path as a whole. This study defined a transfer path as the whole stretch of the distance from an arrival point of one mode to the departure point of the connecting mode. The transfer path was divided into three typical segments as side walk, stairways, and indoor corridors. Preference surveys were made for each of these segments, resulting in relative resistance. The sum of individual segments weighted with the relative resistance will make a transfer resistance of the path, which in turn constitutes a transfer utility function together with the overall satisfaction score obtained by the interview survey. The transfer utility function has been utilized to evaluate the transfer distance between modes.

Epidemiological studies on bovine tuberculosis in mass outbreak region (우결핵 집단 발생직역에 대한 역학적 고찰)

  • The epidemiological survey of mass outbreak region of bovine tuberculosis from January of 2007 through May in 2009. The results were enumerated as follows. The results of tuberculin skin test are: 7 (0.4%) out of 1,697 in 2007, 61 (2.8%) out of 2,163 in 2008, 80 (4.9%) out of 1,639 in 2009. The sex and age distribution among the incidence of positive: 135 (91.8%) out of 147 in female, 12 (8.2%) in male. Among female, age 1: 6.1%, age 2: 30.6%, 3: 38.8%, 4: 14.2%, 5: 0.7% and 6: 1.4%. Among male, age 1: 4.1%, 2: 1.4%, 3: 2.7% and more frequent occurrence in age 3, 38.8% in female and 2.7% in male. The rate of recurrence by farms: recurrence 1: 6 (35.3%), 2: 9 (52.9%), 3: 1 (5.9%), 6: 1 (5.9%), The recurrence rate of 2 or more was 64.7%. The ELISA test result among 114 heads over 14 farms: 75 (65.8%) showed positive and 39 (34.2%) negative. Geographical distribution of recurrence is characterized as concentrated along the major traffic and stream crossing the village, and spread from the high elevation to downward area.

A Causality between Cultural Satisfaction and Social Trust in Cities (도시인의 문화환경 만족과 사회적 신뢰의 인과성)

  • With regard to the culture in cities this study aims to essential understanding and systematic approach to the culture. The "2011 Seoul Survey"report has been used to find out causality among the related variables. In the first place 'satisfaction of cultural condition' was operationally selected as a dependent variable for regression. For the purpose of controlling confounding factors for ceteris paribus effect correlation analysis was done between the dependent variable and all other variables respectively, which resulted in two groups of variables: group (1) - 6 variables of very significant correlations(p-value<0.01) and (2) - the other 6 variables of significant correlations(p-value<0.05). Then hierarchical regression was adopted to these 2 groups to analyse $R^2$ increment, statistical significance of independent variables, and multicollinearity(VIF; variance inflation factor). At last a regression model specified by group (1) as independent variables(they are 'social trust', 'satisfaction of walking condition', 'happiness index', 'preparation against old age', 'satisfaction of traffic condition' and 'hours for internet') shows that only 'social trust' variable has statistically significant and substantially strong effect on 'satisfaction of cultural condition.' This finding should be accepted on the following understanding; (1) urban culture has a collective attribute formed between people and society, (2) culture is somewhat telling and hearing stories and the confidence between tellers and hearers is essential in the mutual response and (3) stimulus is received by relationship in company with sense, emotion, thinking and action. In spite of restrictive external validity this finding can be used as a direction for promoting culture and a basis for related policy choice in cities.
