Vessel traffic service(VTS) centers are equipped with RADAR, AIS(Automatic Identification System), weather sensors, and VHF(Very High Frequency). VTS operators use this equipment to observe the movement of ships operating in the VTS area and provide information. The VTS data generated by these various devices is highly valuable for analyzing maritime traffic situation. However, owing to a lack of compatibility between system manufacturers or policy issues, they are often not systematically managed. Therefore, we developed the VTS Bigdata Platform that could efficiently collect, store, and manage control data collected by the VTS, and this paper describes its design and implementation. A microservice architecture was applied to secure operational stability that was one of the important issues in the development of the platform. In addition, the performance of the platform could be improved by dualizing the storage for real-time navigation information. The implemented system was tested using real maritime data to check its performance, identify additional improvements, and consider its feasibility in a real VTS environment.

In recent years, the maritime traffic environment has been changing in various ways, and the traffic volume has been increasing constantly. Accordingly, the requirements for maritime traffic analysis have become diversified. To this end, traffic characteristics must first be analyzed using vessel trajectory data. However, as the conventional method is mostly manual, it requires a considerable amount of time and effort, and errors may occur during data processing. In addition, ensuring the reliability of the analysis results is difficult, because this method considers the subjective opinion of analysts. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an automated method of traffic network generation for maritime traffic analysis. In the experiment, spatiotemporal features are analyzed using data collected at Mokpo Harbor over six months. The proposed method can automatically generate a traffic network reflecting the traffic characteristics of the experimental area. In addition, it can be applied to a large amount of trajectory data. Finally, as the spatiotemporal characteristics can be analyzed using the traffic network, the proposed method is expected to be used in various maritime traffic analyses.

In the near future, autonomous ships, ships controlled by shore remote control centers, and ships operated by navigators will coexist and operate the sea together. In the advent of this situation, a method is required to evaluate the safety of the maritime traffic environment. Therefore, in this study, a plan to evaluate the safety of navigation through ship control simulation was proposed in a maritime environment, where ships directly controlled by navigators and autonomous ships coexisted, using autonomous operation technology. Own ship was designed to have autonomous operational functions by learning the MMG model based on the six-DOF motion with the PPO algorithm, an in-depth reinforcement learning technique. The target ship constructed maritime traffic modeling data based on the maritime traffic data of the sea area to be evaluated and designed autonomous operational functions to be implemented in a simulation space. A numerical model was established by collecting date on tide, wave, current, and wind from the maritime meteorological database. A maritime meteorology model was created based on this and designed to reproduce maritime meteorology on the simulator. Finally, the safety evaluation proposed a system that enabled the risk of collision through vessel traffic flow simulation in ship control simulation while maintaining the existing evaluation method.

At the adjacent sea area of Busan Central Wharf, a variety of vessels, such as middle-large passenger ships, small hugh speed crafts, container ships, cargo ships and working boats as well as small miscellaneous vessels are freely sailing comparatively without special rules and marine traffic control. In this research, we analyzed traffic stream and navigational characteristics cf main traffic route based on statistics and distribution of tracks by ship's type and tonnage cf the passing vessels after conducting marine traffic survey twice using exclusive software. We examined the traffic safety of the passing vessels by classifying the sea area by each function based on the analysis about this traffic situation, and analyzing the effect by designating 'Inner passage'. We also studied the plan for the effective rearrangement cf Central Wharf considering basically the traffic safety of arrival and departure in a point of view of navigators.

The characteristics of ship traffic routes and the long term fluctuation in marine traf ic volume of the incoming and outgoing routes of the Yeosu Gwangyang Port were analyzed using vessel traffic data from the past 22 years and a real-time vessel traffic volume survey performed for 72 hours per year, for three years, between 2015 and 2017. As of 2017, the number of vessels passing through Yeosu Gwangyang Port was about 66,000 and the total tonnage of these ships was about 804,564 thousand tons, which is a 400 % increase from the 189,906 thousand tons shipped in 1996. Specifically, the dangerous cargo volume was 140,000 thousand tons, which is a 250 % increase compared to 1996. According to the real-time vessel traffic volume survey, the average daily number of vessels was 357, and traf ic route utilization rates were 28.1 % in the Nakpo sea area, 43.8 % in the specified sea area, and the coastal area traf ic route, Dolsan coastal area, and Kumhodo sea area showed the same rate of 6.8 %. Many routes meet in the Nakpo sea area and, parallel and cross passing were frequent. Many small work vessels entered the specific sea area from the neighboring coastal area traffic route and frequently intersected the path of larger vessels. The anchorage waiting rate for cargo ships was about 24 %, and the nightly passing rate for dangerous cargo ships such as chemical vessels and tankers was about 20 %. Although the vessel traffic volume of Yeosu Gwangyang Port increases every year, the vessel traffic routes remain the same. Therefore, the risk of accidents is constantly increasing. The route conditions must be improved by dredging and expanding the available routes to reduce the high risk of ship accidents due to overlapping routes, by removing reefs, and by reinforcing navigational aids. In addition, the entry and exit time for dangerous cargo ships at high-risk ports must be strictly regulated. Advancements in the VTS system can help to actively manage the traffic of small vessels using the coastal area traffic route.

The intelligent maritime traffic information service provides a service to prevent collisions and stranding of ships based on the location information of ships periodically collected from ship equipment such as LTE-Maritime transceivers and AIS installed on ships. provided in real time. However, the above service may reduce the reliability of ship location information because GPS location information for measuring the ship's location may be cut off during transmission through LTE-Maritime or AIS networks, or phenomena such as location jumps and delays may occur. This study aims to estimate reliable position information to some extent even in an abnormal section through ship position prediction based on the existing received position information using the Kalman filter, which is an optimal estimation filter based on probability.
This paper aims, first to analyse the profitability of coastal passenger ships deployed on both subsidized and non-subsidized routes, ie competitive routes, in Korea, second to evaluate them by route, by ship type, and by ship size, and finally to identify whether the ships deployed on subsidized routes are justifiable to receive subsidy from the government. They are followed by the analyses on the profitability of all ships on the coastal routes and their dependence rate of subsidy. The research covers the period of 1995-1997. The research results say that 35% of the total subsidized routes has more than 90% of subsidy dependence rate and that some monopolized routes among subsidized ones with moderate rate of profitability need to be crossed out from the list of subsidy beneficiary. In addition, some ships deployed are not appropriate type in terms of characteristics of route and traffic. One of implications drawn from this study is that the government has to set up a watchdog to monitor subsidized routes, which enables to make them competitive and save the budget.
Because of increasement on the transportation of goods by ship and the operation of coastal ships for leisure, the interest of marine parts is growing up lately and then the safe navigation of ships are essential. In these circumstances, it is necessary that it should be examined the regulation of vessel traffic control in effect. Therefore, the wave height is analyzed on korean coast, and then the seakeeping performance with the wave height and the various hull types on operating on the coast is evaluated. These results will be helpful to the improvement of the regulation of vessel traffic control and safe navigation of coastal passenger ships.

Rapid increase of maritime traffic volume and the increase of vessel size make it indispensible for the fairway designer to estimate the traffic capacity of a fairway at its early design stage. In this paper, as one of the methods to estimate the maritime traffic capacity of a fairway, operating rate of a fairway is defined and reviewed together with its basic characteristics, which is a brief estimation model based on bumper model around a ship. The method is applied to the approach channels of major harbors in Korea to give some guidelines on the acceptable traffic capacity of a fairway. In spite of its simplicity, this method can be used as an effective tool to discriminate whether the principal dimension of a fairway is enough or not from the viewpoint of maritime traffic capacity at its initial design stage.

The Coastal VTS will be continuously constructed to prevent marine traffic accidents in the coastal waters of the Republic of Korea. In order to provide the best traffic information service to the ship operator, it is important to understand the navigation risk factor. In this study, we analyzed the navigational hazards of Gunsan coastal area where the coastal VTS will be constructed until 2020. For this purpose, major traffic flows of merchant ships and density of vessels engaged in fishing were analyzed. This study was conducted by Automatic Identification System (AIS) and Vessel Pass (V-PASS) data. The grid intervals are 10 minute ${\times}$ 10 minute (latitude ${\times}$ longitude) based on the section of the sea. A total of 30 sections were analyzed by constructing a grid. As a result of the analysis, the major traffic flows of the merchant vessels in the coastal area of Gunsan were surveyed from north to south toward Incheon, Pyeongtaek, Daesan, Yeosu, Pusan and Ulsan, and from east to west in the port of Gunsan Port, 173-3, 173-6, 173-8, 183-2, 183-5, 183-8, 183-3, 184-1 and 184-2. As a result of the study, the fishing boats in Gunsan coastal area mainly operated in spring and autumn. On the other hand, the main traffic flow of merchant ships and the distribution of fishing vessels continue to overlap from March to June, so special attention should be paid to the control during this period.
