  • The key characteristics of two-lane-and-two-way traffic flow are platoon and overtaking caused by low-speed vehicle such as truck. In order to develop two-way traffic flow model comprised of CF(car-following) and overtaking model, it is essential to develop a car-following model which is suitable to two-way traffic flow. Short distance between vehicles is caused when a high-speed vehicle tailgates and overtakes foregoing low-speed vehicle on two-way road system. And a vehicle following low-speed vehicle decides to overtake the front low-speed vehicle using suitable space within the headway distribution of opposite traffic flow. For this reason, a two-way CF model should describes not only running within short gap but also headway distribution. Additionally considering domestic two-way-road size, there is a on-going need for large-network simulation, but there are few studies for two-way CF model. In this paper, a two-way CA model is developed, which explains two-way CF behavior more realistic and can be applied for large road network. The experimental results show that the developed model mimics stop-and-go phenomenon, one of features of congested traffic flow, and efficiently generates the distribution of headway. When the CF model is integrated with overtaking model, it is, therefore, expected that two-way traffic flow can be explained more realistically than before.

  • A network design problem (NDP) is to find a design parameter to optimize the performance of transportation system. This paper presents a modified NDP, called target-oriented NDP, which contains a target that we try to arrive in real world, and also proposes a solution algorithm. Unlike general NDP which seeks an optimal value to minimize or to maximize objective function of the system, in target-oriented NDP traffic manager or operator can set a target level prior and then try to find an optimal design variable to attain this goal. A simple example for mode choice problem is given to test the model.

  • In this paper, we propose a wavelet VQ approach to modeling VBR broadcast video traffic. The proposed method decomposes video traffic into two parts via wavelet transformation, and models each part separately. The first part, which is modeled by an AR(1) process, serves to capture the long-term trend of the traffic; the second part, classified via vector quantization, addresses the short-term behavior of the traffic. Compared with other VBR video models, our model has three advantages. First, it allows the separate modeling of long- and short-term behavior of the video traffic; second, it preserves the periodic coding structure in traffic data; and third, it provides an unified approach for the frameand slice-level traffic modeling. We demonstrate the validity of our model by statistical measurements and network performance simulation.

  • Network traffic measurements show that the data traffic on packet switched networks has the self-similar features which is different from the traditional traffic models such as Poisson distribution or Markovian process model. Most of the call admission control researches have been done on the performance analysis of a single network switch. It is necessary to consider the performance analysis of the proposed admission control scheme under interconnected switch environment because the data traffic transmits through switches in networks. From the simulation results, it is shown that the call admission control scheme may not operate properly on the interconnected switch even though the scheme works well on a single switch. In this parer, we analyze the cell loss probability, utilization and self-similarity of output ports of the interconnected networks switch by using shared buffer memory management schemes and propose the new call admission control scheme considering the interconnected network switches under self-similar traffic environments.

  • The introduction of fast packet switching networks such as the ATM leads to the possibility of video services with constant quality. However, the fixed traffic descriptor(TD), which is defined by ATM Forum and ITU-T, can not simultaneously satisfy network efficiency and video quality. This paper presents fast resource reallocation protocol (FRRP) which can provide an effective compromise between network efficiency and video quality. This protocol reallocates the network resources and then adapts the traffic to the reallocated resources. In the proposed method, a video session is divided into several time-intervals according to its generated traffic and TD is calculated which well characterizes the traffic during the specific subdivided interval. In addition, a system model, where MPEG coding algorithm and network control are unified, is proposal and the performance of the FRRP in terms of cell loss rate(CLR) is evaluated though the simulation using real video traffic(Star Wars). Simulation results show that the FRRP has only 5 ~35% CLR of the fixed TD.

  • Internet network routing system is used to prevent spread and distribution of malicious data traffic. The penetration of malicious code and the function of security blocking are performed on the same course of traffic pathway. The security architecture is the concept to distinguish the architecture from the group handling with the traffic on the structure of network which is performed with the function of penetration and security. The security architecture could be different from the criterion of its realm and function, which requires the development and the application of security mechanism for every architecture. For the establishment of security architecture it is needed to show what criterion of net work should be set up. This study is based on analysis of diagnostic weakness structure in the network security architecture and research the criterion for topology factor, security architecture structure map selection, and blocking location and disinfection net. It is shown to increase the effective rate blocking the virus with the proposed method in this paper rather than the traditional network architecture.

  • As the computerization of hospitals becomes more advanced, security issues regarding data generated from various medical devices within hospitals are gradually increasing. For example, because hospital data contains a variety of personal information, attempts to attack it have been continuously made. In order to safely protect data from external attacks, each hospital has formed an internal team to continuously monitor whether the computer network is safely protected. However, there are limits to how humans can monitor attacks that occur on networks within hospitals in real time. Recently, artificial intelligence models have shown excellent performance in detecting outliers. In this paper, an experiment was conducted to verify how well an artificial intelligence model classifies normal and abnormal data in network traffic data generated from medical devices. There are several models used for outlier detection, but among them, Random Forest and Tabnet were used. Tabnet is a deep learning algorithm related to receive and classify structured data. Two algorithms were trained using open traffic network data, and the classification accuracy of the model was measured using test data. As a result, the random forest algorithm showed a classification accuracy of 93%, and Tapnet showed a classification accuracy of 99%. Therefore, it is expected that most outliers that may occur in a hospital network can be detected using an excellent algorithm such as Tabnet.

  • Traditionally, a dynamic network model is considered as a tool for solving real-time traffic problems. One of useful and practical ways of using such models is to use it to produce and disseminate forecast travel time information so that the travelers can switch their routes from congested to less-congested or uncongested, which can enhance the performance of the network. This approach seems to be promising when the traffic congestion is severe, especially when sudden incidents happen. A consideration that should be given in implementing this method is that travel time information may affect the future traffic condition itself, creating undesirable side effects such as the over-reaction problem. Furthermore incorrect forecast travel time can make the information unreliable. In this paper, a network-wide travel time prediction model under incidents is developed. The model assumes that all drivers have access to detailed traffic information through personalized in-vehicle devices such as car navigation systems. Drivers are assumed to make their own travel choice based on the travel time information provided. A route-based stochastic variational inequality is formulated, which is used as a basic model for the travel time prediction. A diversion function is introduced to account for the motorists' willingness to divert. An inverse function of the diversion curve is derived to develop a variational inequality formulation for the travel time prediction model. Computational results illustrate the characteristics of the proposed model.

  • This paper presents a topology based on packet tracer and a five-step scenario model to make it easier for students to understand the network on which VLANs are applied. Virtual LAN (VLAN), developed as an alternative solution to the Routers that distribute broadcast traffic, is a virtual local area network that logically configured regardless of the physical network. The VLAN prevents the network performance degradation resulting from the broadcast traffic by dividing the broadcast domain so that the bandwidth can be used more efficiently. In addition, it enhances the security because on communication between the devices belonging to different VLANs is impossible. The five-step scenarios in this paper presented an efficient implementation case for students to understand and validate the various functions of VLANs through ping/telnet/tracert test and simulation, after setting up each step of programming switches and routers in the virtual network.
