  • Current disk systems are generally designed to reduce read traffic more effectively. Hence, write traffic of the I/O workload could potentially become a bottleneck of the disk system performance. In order to overcome this problem without much cost, this paper presents using outermost-zone track of multi-zoned recording disk as a secondary disk cache. The proposed disk cache improves the disk system performance by following exploitations: speed difference between block transfer and track transfer, difference in transfer rate between outermost-zone tracks and inner tracks, reduction in the seek time caused by decreasing the number of disk cache tracks, and idle period during burst accesses. In addition, it does not waste the disk space because it allocates the caching space by the cylinder unit. The simulation results show that the proposed system improves 2.54∼3.11 times better in terms of average response time for write operations than existing disk systems..

  • Trajectory modeling is foundational for 4D-Route modeling, conflict detection and air traffic flow management. This paper proposes a novel algorithm based Vincenty's fomulas for trajectory calculation, combined with the Dijkstra algorithm and Vincenty's formulas. Using flight plan simulations our experimental results show that our method of En-route trajectory calculation exhibits much improved performance in accuracy.

  • As the greater interests are focused onto wireless message transfer, wireless data base access and mobile computing the techniques for integrating various dat a services into the mobile communication systems are seriously needed. In this paper we propose a traffic handing scheme to provide mixed media services more effectively, and analyze is performance. The proposed scheme was found to improve data performances and, regardless of varying data traffic load, provide acceptable level of blocking rate to voice services simultaneouly. Also it is more effective for message-oriented data services.

  • Android malware steals users' private information, and embedded unsafe advertisement (ad) libraries, which execute unsafe code causing damage to users. The majority of such traffic is HTTP and is mixed with other normal traffic, which makes the detection of malware and unsafe ad libraries a challenging problem. To address this problem, this work describes a novel HTTP traffic flow mining approach to detect and categorize Android malware and unsafe ad library. This work designed AndroCollector, which can automatically execute the Android application (app) and collect the network traffic traces. From these traces, this work extracts HTTP traffic features along three important dimensions: quantitative, timing, and semantic and use these features for characterizing malware and unsafe ad libraries. Based on these HTTP traffic features, this work describes a supervised classification scheme for detecting malware and unsafe ad libraries. In addition, to help network operators, this work describes a fine-grained categorization method by generating fingerprints from HTTP request methods for each malware family and unsafe ad libraries. This work evaluated the scheme using HTTP traffic traces collected from 10778 Android apps. The experimental results show that the scheme can detect malware with 97% accuracy and unsafe ad libraries with 95% accuracy when tested on the popular third-party Android markets.

  • As the result of the study shows, Round Robin Algorithm allows servers to ensure definite traffic distribution, unless incoming data loads differ much. Although error levels are high in some cases, they were eventually alleviated by repeated tests for a long period of time. The study uses two software packages (Packet Capture and Round Robin Test Package) to check packet volume from Virtual Network Structure (data generator, virtual server, Server 1, 2, 3), and finds out traffic distribution toward Server 1, 2, and 3. The functions of implemented Round Robin Load Balancing Monitoring System include round robin testing, system monitoring, and graphical indication of data transmission and packet volume.

  • It is necessary to study about the scheme to accept IP traffic effectively in OTN, according to expect that IP traffic data will be increase constantly. In this paper, we studied the encapsulation method of IP traffic through GFP in OTN transmission network. Therefore we knew the IP/GFP/OTN method is more efficient than existing methods from structure, overhead rates and possibility of grow, and showed the functional block of high level about this method. Also we showed the implementation scheme of this method by processing the functional simulation to make use of VHDL programming.

  • A smart dust monitoring system is useful for obtaining information on rough terrain that is difficult for humans to access. One of ways to deploy sensors to gather information in smart dust environment is to use an aircraft in the Amazon rainforest to scatter an enormous amount of small and cheap sensors (or smart dust devices), or to use an unmanned spacecraft to throw the sensors on the moon's surface. However, scattering an enormous amount of smart dust devices creates the difficulty of managing such devices as they can be scattered into inaccessible areas, and also causes problems such as bottlenecks, device failure, and high/low density of devices. Of the various problems that may occur in the smart dust environment, this paper is focused on solving the bottleneck problem. To address this, we propose and construct a three-layered hierarchical smart dust monitoring system that includes relay dust devices (RDDs). An RDD is a smart dust device with relatively higher computing/communicating power than a normal smart dust device. RDDs play a crucial role in reducing traffic load for the system. To validate the proposed system, we use climate data obtained from authorized portals to compare the system with other systems (i.e., non-hierarchical system and simple hierarchical system). Through this comparison, we determined that the transmission processing time is reduced by 49%-50% compared to other systems, and the maximum number of connectable devices can be increased by 16-32 times without compromising the system's operations.
