A new method for stabilizing the bias of an Electro-Optic mach-Zehnder modulator has been developed to maximize the switching extinction ratio in burst mode packet traffic. By sampling and minimizing the off-level output power of the modulator, a high extinction optical gate switch in obtain regardless of the variation of the packet traffic density.
In this paper, sharing based admission control scheme is suggested for both service differentiation and improvement of wavelength utilization efficiency in burst switching networks. To provide service differentiation and high wavelength utilization efficiency, some of the wavelengths on a output link are shared with all classes and the others are used for the highest class exclusively. Markov based analysis is applied to the suggested scheme for the performance analysis and the numerical results are derived. The results are: The performance of lower traffic is more improved by the more number of shared wavelengths in case that the higher traffic or lower traffic is arrived equally or that the input rate of lower traffic is low. Another result is that the sharing effect of wavelengths is a little bit lowered when lower traffic passes the threshold.

We propose the novel optical burst switching scheme to guarantee a minimum bandwidth for multiple classes. To date, QoS studies on OBS network are capable of differentiating two classes, but have difficulties in providing a minimum bandwidth lot several classes because of lower classes' collision with the highest class bursts in the networks. To solve that problem, in our proposed scheme we assign time zones in a data channel for each class periodically, making one burst have top priority at least its zone. Also, the new burst assembling algorithm, as well as the way of managing data channel, is necessarily proposed to coordinate with the proposed OBS scheme. Through the evaluation, we show that the worst-case end-to-end delay is small enough and the received bandwidth of the lower classes is still assured regardless of the traffic load of the highest class.

Nowadays the adaptive buffering techniques for burst stream packet configuration and its operation algorithm to save energy in IP core network have been studied. This paper explains the selection method of packet buffering interval for energy saving when configuring burst stream packet at the ingress router in IP core network. Especially the adaptive buffering interval and its implementation scheme are required to improve the energy saving efficiency at the input part of the ingress router. In this paper, we propose the best adaptive buffering scheme that a current buffering interval is adaptively buffering scheme based on the input traffic of the past buffering interval, and analyze its characteristics of energy saving and end-to-end delay by computer simulation. We show the improvement of energy saving effect and reduction of mean delay variation when using an appropriate inverse-function selecting the buffering interval for the configuration of burst stream packet in this paper. We confirm this method have superior properties compared to other method. The proposed method shows that it is less sensitive to the various input traffic type of ingress router and a practical method.
The satellite communications are expected to play an important role to provide broadband multimedia services in the 21st century. According to this requirements, this paper describes the design and implementation of ATM-based high speed satellite modem ASIC chipset. The ASIC chip consists of three main parts, CODEC, Modulator and Demodulator. It supports burst and continuous mode operation with TDMA frame consisted of Reference bursts, Inbound burst, and Traffic burst. The maximum transmission rate is OC-3 (155Mbps) and the maximum operating clock speed is 220MHz. This ASIC chip was implemented with 0.25um CMOS technology.

Global data center IP traffic is expected to reach 20.6 zettabytes (ZB) by the end of 2021. Intra-data center networks (Intra-DCN) will account for 71.5% of the data center traffic flow and will be the largest portion of the traffic. The understanding of traffic distribution in IntraDCN is still sketchy. It causes significant amount of bandwidth to go unutilized, and creates avoidable choke points. Conventional transport protocols such as Optical Packet Switching (OPS) and Optical Burst Switching (OBS) allow a one-sided view of the traffic flow in the network. This therefore causes disjointed and uncoordinated decision-making at each node. For effective resource planning, there is the need to consider joining the distributed with centralized management which anticipates the system's needs and regulates the entire network. Methods derived from Kalman filters have proved effective in planning road networks. Considering the network available bandwidth as data transport highways, we propose an intelligent enhanced SDN concept applied to OBS architecture. A management plane (MP) is added to conventional control (CP) and data planes (DP). The MP assembles the traffic spatio-temporal parameters from ingress nodes, uses Kalman filtering prediction-based algorithm to estimate traffic demand. Prior to packets arrival at edges nodes, it regularly forwards updates of resources allocation to CPs. Simulations were done on a hybrid scheme (1+1) and on the centralized OBS. The results demonstrated that the proposition decreases the packet loss ratio. It also improves network latency and throughput-up to 84 and 51%, respectively, versus the traditional scheme.
In this Paper, new congention control schemes using the adaptive rate control for ATM LANs are presented. If is preferable for hosts in LANs to be able to send bursts at the same speed as the interface link speed in a lightly loaded condition, and as the network load increases, to reduce their traffic rate adaptively in order to avaid network congestion. We propose to apply such a rate control concept for two different traffic classed in the ATM LANs. For the first traffic class requiring no bandwidth reservation, i.e, a best effort service class, a combination of the end-to-end adaptive peak rate control with the link-by-link backpressure control is proposed. For the second traffic class, requiring the bandwidth reservation for the burst transmission, i.e. guaranteed burst service class, a combination of he adaptive peak rate control with the fast bandwidth reservation is proposed.

In this paper, we address how to provide absolute differentiated services for optical burst switching (OBS) networks based on dynamic wavelength assignment. Unlike existing quality of service (QoS), such as buffer-based and offset-time based scheme, our proposed dynamicvirtual lambda partitioning (DVLP) scheme does not mandate any buffer or extra offset time, but can achieve absolute service differentiation between classes. This new DVLP scheme shares wavelength resources based on several different priority of classes in an efficient and QoS guaranteed manner. The performance results show that the proposed scheme effectively guarantees a target blocking probability of each traffic classes both in Poisson and Self-similar traffic environment.

Performance of TCP/IP is studied on the wireless network using flow control and congestion control mechanism based on transmission rate. We discuss the elimination or the reduction of various phenomena of burst by flow controlling on transmission rate and verify that there are TCP ACK compression promblems on the queue by burst reaction while executing transmission rate controlled channels. Analyzing periodic burst reaction on the queue of source IP, the maximum value of queue is expected, which represents the applible expectation of throughput reduce and shows the improvement of performance by the reduce of throughput due to hi-directional traffic.

One of the most important issues in designing a network and realizing a service is dealing with traffic characteristics. Recent experimental research on LAN, WAN, and VBR traffic properties has highlighted that real traffic specificities can not be displayed because the current models based on the Poisson assumption under estimate the long range dependency of network traffic and self-similar peculiarities. Therefore, a new approach using self-similarity characteristics as a real traffic model was recently developed. In This paper we discusses the definition of self-similarity traffic. Moreover, real traffic was collected and we generated self-similar data traffic like real traffic to background load. On the existing ABR congestion control algorithm transmission throughput with the representative ERICA, EPRCA and NIST switch algorithm show the efficient reaction about the burst traffic.
