The purpose of this study is to develop an index for evaluating the function of a new motorway using the travel distance frequency distribution (TLFD) calculated using the vehicle travel route big data, and to overcome the limitations of the evaluation through the existing traffic volume. The mobility evaluation index of motorways was developed by applying it to the TLFD data table in 2019. The smaller the value of the mobility evaluation index of the link is calculated, the more it is a link with mainly short-distance travel, and the higher the value of the mobility evaluation index, the more it means a link with mainly long-distance travel. The accessibility evaluation index was calculated through the result of the mobility evaluation index of all motorways developed, and all motorways were grouped into three groups using K-means clustering. Group A was found to exist inside a large city and consisted of motorways with many short-distance traffic, Group B was investigated as acting as an arterial between groups, and Group C was classified as a motorway consisting mainly of long-distance traffic connecting large cities and large cities. This study is significant in developing a new motorway function evaluation index that can overcome the limitations of motorway function evaluation through the existing traffic volume. It is expected that this study can be a reasonable comprehensive indicator in the operation and planning process of motorways.

The service level of Metro stations is affected by the design criteria such as platform area, width and length of stairways, and the number of turnstile, etc. The Korean station design process utilizes peak-hour volume as design volume. Hourly volume, however, can not explicitly account for the variation of traffic and consequently the variation of the level of service within the one-hour time period. Movements in various areas inside of stations are simulated with a queueing network under various operating conditions. A discrete simulation tool called SIMUL8 was utilized. Based on the results, peak volume for 15 minutes period was recommended as a preferred base volume over the peak-hour volume for station design purpose to realistically account for user delays under. Simulation runs also confirmed that escalators have positive effects on passenger processing capacity and on securing stability of passenger flows in stations.
The Busan New harbor will be opened by 2011, after which it is expected that the marine traffic volume around this area would Increase significantly and that very large ships such as 12,000 TEU container ships would come into the port. Therefore, it is necessary to build a new ships' routeing by considering these factors. In this paper, environmental circumstances, marine traffics, and the preceding studies have been reviewed and ships' routeing is proposed through experts' opinions and Delphi technique. For the purpose of validation, the proposed ships' routeings are reviewed by several guidelines on the ships' routeing and through simulation studies.
PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to propose delay-minimizing operation methodology of a signalized intersection based upon optimization of lane-uses on approaching lanes for an intersection. METHODS : For the optimization model of lane-uses, a set of constraints are set up to ensure feasibility and safety of the lane-uses, traffic flow, and signal settings. Minimization of demand to saturation flow ratio of a dual-ring signal control system is introduced to the objective function for delay minimization and effective signal operation. Using the optimized lane-uses, signal timings are optimized by delay-based model of TRANSYT-7F. RESULTS : It was found that the proposed objective function is great relation with delay time for an intersection. From the experimental results, the method was approved to be effective in reducing delay time. Especially, cases for two left-turn lanes reduced greater delays than those for a left turn lane. It is noticed that the cases for different traffic volume by approach reduced greater delays than those for the same traffic volume by approach. CONCLUSIONS : It was concluded that the objective function is proper for lane-uses optimizing model and the operation method is effective in reducing delay time for signalized intersections.

These days Automated Vehicle(AV) has been receiving attention as a fundamental solution to resolve the various transportation problems and various researches related to the benefits of AV have been done. However, previous researches mainly analyzed the effects in the virtual network. The purpose of this research is to predict and to find out the benefits by introducing the Automated Vehicle to present road traffic system. Thus, the study analyzes the traffic-flow changes of Gyeongbu freeway Seoul-Singal basic section which is planned for setting the test-bed. The results show that Automated Vehicle can have negative effects on the traffic-flow in low volume of LOS A and B. However, the average speed increases and the traffic density decreases in more than LOS C, the traffic volume increase. Therefore, the introduction of Automated Vehicle achieves positive effect on various transportation problems such as the traffic congestion.

Kenya is a sovereign country with a vast potential in maritime industry. Though Kenya is known to have made it in IMO white list on $14^{TH}$ May 2010, she is making huge investments in maritime industry in an effort to have a share of booming world maritime industry and sea trade. Statistics has it that 90% of trade volume is carried on the sea, which is strong indication that for any country inspiring to be an economic powerhouse it has to have a lion share of sea trade volume, and one of the proven ways in gaining economic success is by investing heavily in maritime infrastructure. The purpose of this paper is to give a brief description of marine traffic status in port of Mombasa which is the largest port in Kenya, highlight vital features of multi-billion Lamu port investment under taken by the Kenyan government and finally discuss the future of maritime industry and Kenyan seafarer.

The roundabout is a green transportation system which reduces the accident, the congestion cost and greenhouse effect. The purpose of the study is to analyze the multi-legged roundabout's efficiency. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular attention to building the optimal network of multi-legged roundabout and intersections, developing the scenarios for analysis reflected by the proportion of entering traffic volume of main and minor roads, and comparatively analyzing the average delay per car using VISSIM. The main results are as follows. First, when the entering traffic volume are less than 3,500pcph, the 5-legged single and double-lane roundabout are all analyzed to be more effective than intersection. Second, when the entering traffic volume are less than 3,600pcph, the 6-legged single-lane roundabout is analyzed to be more effective than intersection. The 6-legged double-lane roundabout is analyzed to be more effective than intersection. The 6-legged double-lane roundabout is analyzed to be more effective than intersection in all cases of entering volume.

Postal logistics organizations are characterized as having high labor intensity and short response times. These characteristics, along with rapid change in mail volume, make load scheduling a fundamental concern. Load analysis of major postal infrastructures such as post offices, sorting centers, exchange centers, and delivery stations is required for optimal postal logistics operation. In particular, the performance of mail traffic forecasting is essential for optimizing the resource operation by accurate load analysis. This paper addresses a traffic forecast problem of postal parcel that arises at delivery stations of Korea Post. The main purpose of this paper is to describe a method for predicting short-term traffic of postal parcel based on self-similarity analysis and to introduce an application of the traffic prediction model to postal logistics system. The proposed scheme develops multiple regression models by the clusters resulted from feature engineering and individual models for delivery stations to reinforce prediction accuracy. The experiment with data supplied by main postal delivery stations shows the advantage in terms of prediction performance. Comparing with other technique, experimental results show that the proposed method improves the accuracy up to 45.8%.

PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to analyze the service life of expressway pavement based on both traffic volumes and use of deicing chemicals. METHODS : A database was built using expressway rehabilitation history information from over the last decade. In order to estimate the service life of expressway pavement, various analysis methods were considered, and a decision was made to perform analysis using a method based on an accumulated rehabilitation ratio. The service life of expressway pavement was then analyzed by classifying the scale of traffic volume and extent of de-icing chemicals used. RESULTS : The service life of PMA and SMA ranged from 7.8 to 10.6 years and from 9.9 to 12.0 years, respectively. The service life of JCP ranged from 16.0 to 22.2 years, and the service life of CRCP was 33.5 years on average. Results of assessing service life according to traffic volumes and de-icing chemicals showed that the lower the traffic volumes were, the greater the service life of PMA and JCP, and the less that de-icing chemicals were applied, the greater the service life of JCP. CONCLUSIONS : The dependence of expressway pavement service life on traffic volumes and de-icing chemicals makes it possible to apply LCCA for regional maintenance plans and cost-effective selection of expressway pavement type.

PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to check the possibilities of traffic pattern analysis using MatSIM for urban road network operation in incident case. METHODS : One of the stochastic dynamic models is MatSIM. MatSIM is a transportation simulation tool based on stochastic dynamic model and activity based model. It is an open source software developed by IVT, ETH zurich, Switzerland. In MatSIM, various scenario comparison analyses are possible and analyses results are expressed using the visualizer which shows individual vehicle movements and traffic patterns. In this study, trip distribution in 24-hour, traffic volume, and travel speed using MatSIM are similar to those of measured values. Therefore, results of MatSIM are reasonable comparing with measured values. Traffic patterns are changed according to incident from change of individual behavior. RESULTS : The simulation results and the actual measured values are similar. The simulation results show reasonable ranges which can be used for traffic pattern analysis. CONCLUSIONS : The change of traffic pattern including trip distribution, traffic volumes and speeds according to various incident scenarios can be used for traffic control policy decision to provide effective operation of urban road network.
