The objective of this study is to estimate and analyze the traffic density of continuous flow using the trajectory of individual vehicles and the headway of sample probe vehicles-front vehicles obtained from ADAS (Advanced Driver Assitance System) installed in sample probe vehicles. In the past, traffic density of continuous traffic flow was mainly estimated by processing data such as traffic volume, speed, and share collected from Vehicle Detection System, or by counting the number of vehicles directly using video information such as CCTV. This method showed the limitation of spatial limitations in estimating traffic density, and low reliability of estimation in the event of traffic congestion. To overcome the limitations of prior research, In this study, individual vehicle trajectory data and vehicle headway information collected from ADAS are used to detect the space on the road and to estimate the spatiotemporal traffic density using the Generalized Density formula. As a result, an analysis of the accuracy of the traffic density estimates according to the sampling rate of ADAS vehicles showed that the expected sampling rate of 30% was approximately 90% consistent with the actual traffic density. This study contribute to efficient traffic operation management by estimating reliable traffic density in road situations where ADAS and autonomous vehicles are mixed.
PURPOSES : The goal of this study is the development of roundabout accident models for urban and non-urban areas. METHODS : This study performed a comparative analysis of the regional factors affecting accidents. Traffic accident data were collected for the period 2010~2014 from the TAAS data set of the Road Traffic Authority. To develop the roundabout accident models, the Poisson and negative binomial regression models were used. A total of 25 explanatory variables such as geometry, and traffic volume were used. RESULTS : The key findings are as follows: First, it was found that the null hypotheses that the number of accidents is the same should be rejected. Second, three Poisson regression accident models, which are statistically significant (${\rho}^2$ of 0.154 and 0.385) were developed. Third, it was noted that although the common variable of the three models (models I~III) is the number of entry lanes, the specific variables are entry lane width, roundabout sign, number of circulatory roadways, splitter island, number of exit lanes, exit lane width, number of approach roads, and truck apron. CONCLUSIONS : The results of this study can provide suggestive countermeasures for decreasing the number of roundabout accidents.
In order to operate the computerized traffic signal system, it requires the detectors which ensure the exact detections of actual traffic data (e.g., traffic volume, occupancy and velocity of vehicles). The octagonal detectors are used currently in Korea. However, the maintenance of the detectors has many problems with the road repairs and the constructions on the pavement, and failure due to the disconnection of the wires. Serious delay due to the long installation time of loops also causes the traffic disturbances. The low sensitivities and splash-over effect can sometimes create error data after installation of the octagonal loops. The mai purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of domestic use of the round (circular) inductive loops which developed recently in U.S.A. It was found that the round loops are comparable to the existing octagonal loops. In addition, the use of the high quality of materials in the round loop system can reduce the current problems and weakpoints of the octagonal loops. The installation cost of the round loop was found out as economic as the octagonal loop. The installation time of the round loop system can be reduced with the specially equipped loop truck, and wide/deep slots without sharp corners can extend the durability without serious stress of loop head wires. In conclusion, the round loop is superior to the octagonal type in overall points. It is recommended that the localization of the materials and equipments of round loop system is required to carry out the extensive local installations. Also, several contractors to meet the nationwide demand should be arranged to gurantee the proper maintenance and operation of the systems.
In order to handle client's requests while multiple servers seamlessly work in the web server cluster environment, it is vital to implement a router that execute a routing using TCP information and requested target content. The implemented package software measured packet volume that was generated from data generator, virtual server, and server 1, 2, 3, and could find out traffic distribution toward Server 1, 2, 3. As the result of the study shows, Round Robin Algorithm ensured definite traffic distribution, unless incoming data loads differ much. Although error levels were high in some partial cases, they were eventually alleviated by repeated tests for a longer time.

The Internet has become an essential part in our modern life by providing useful information. So, the volume of Internet traffic has been increasing rapidly, which emphasizes the importance of network traffic analysis for effective network operation and management. Signature based analysis have been commonly used, but it is shown that the increase of signatures due to the increase of applications causes the performance degradation of real-time traffic analysis on high-speed network links. In this paper, we propose OS fingerprinting method for real-time traffic analysis. The previous problems can be solved by utilizing the OS information. The OS fingerprinting method for real-time traffic analysis, proposed in this paper, conducts under passive mode, and improves the limitation of a previous method such as low completeness and accuracy. In this paper, we enlarged an input data to improve completeness, and used the User-Agent field in HTTP packet to extract various OS signatures. Also, we changed an input data from packet to flow to improve accuracy.

This study examined the impact of COVID-19 on traffic demand (Average Daily Traffic : ADT) by analyzing the available data on highway traffic volume and the spread of COVID-19 cases in Korea. This study used the data from 228 permanent traffic counts (PTCs) on highways from January to May of 2019 and 2020 to analyze the change in ADT. The first cases of infection in Korea occurred on January 20, 2020, and the maximum daily number of infections was 909 on February 29. On April 30, 2020, the daily number of infections decreased to four. The ADT decreased by 3.3% due to the impact of COVID-19. Considering that the traffic volume has increased 2.3% annually over the past decade, the actual decrease in ADT due to the COVID-19 is estimated to be 5.6% (3.3% + 2.3%). The ADT for weekends decreased significantly, compared to during the week. An analysis of the changes in ADT according to the road type revealed decreases in the following: urban roads -4.6%, rural roads -3.2%, and recreational roads -0.7%. Urban roads decreased the most, and tourist roads decreased the least.

Postal logistics organizations are characterized as having high labor intensity and short response times. These characteristics, along with rapid change in mail volume, make load scheduling a fundamental concern. Load analysis of major postal infrastructures such as post offices, sorting centers, exchange centers, and delivery stations is required for optimal postal logistics operation. In particular, the performance of mail traffic forecasting is essential for optimizing the resource operation by accurate load analysis. This paper addresses a traffic forecast problem of postal parcel that arises at delivery stations of Korea Post. The main purpose of this paper is to describe a method for predicting short-term traffic of postal parcel based on self-similarity analysis and to introduce an application of the traffic prediction model to postal logistics system. The proposed scheme develops multiple regression models by the clusters resulted from feature engineering and individual models for delivery stations to reinforce prediction accuracy. The experiment with data supplied by main postal delivery stations shows the advantage in terms of prediction performance. Comparing with other technique, experimental results show that the proposed method improves the accuracy up to 45.8%.

Number of highway lanes and level of service are based on the 30th, 60th or 100th highest hour volume of the target year. On the other hand, railroad design volume is generally expressed in average annual daily traffic (AADT). This procedure ignores attributes of railroad demand's concentration on peak days and hours. Actual data analysis represents railroad's peaking characteristics very similar to those of highways. Therefore it is necessary to set a procedure in selecting design volume for railroad planning. This study presents a concept and the calculating procedure for railroad design hourly volume to analyze effect of railroad investment.
