  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the university students' recognition and preference of Korean rice cakes. Self administered questionnaires were collected from 302 students in Incheon area. Statistical data analysis was completed using a SPSS 10.0 program. The recognition of Korean rice cake was generally high: Injeolmi, Garaeddeok, Bakseolgi, Songpyun, Patsirooddeok, Bindaeddeok, Yaksik Julpyun, Gyungdan, Moojigaeddeok were high1y recognized, but Gaesungjooak, Sugyibyung, Seunggeomchopyun poorly recognized by university students. The most common consumption frequency rate of students was once or twice a month (Male 31.9%; Female 41.6%). Most students ate rice cakes as snack with water, Kimchi, fruits, beverage(Cola, Cider) and Korean traditional beverage(Sujunggwa, Sighye). The sales possibility of Korean rice cake at university canteens was dependent on the characteristics different from those of rice cafes itself, for example,. nutritional labelling, mass, atmosphere and package, etc.

  • In previous nuclear genomic association studies, Random Forests (RF), one of several up-to-date machine learning methods, has been used successfully to generate evidence of association of genetic polymorphisms with diseases or other phenotypes. Compared with traditional statistical analytic methods, such as chi-square tests or logistic regression models, the RF method has advantages in handling large numbers of predictor variables and examining gene-gene interactions without a specific model. Here, we applied the RF method to find the association between mitochondrial single nucleotide polymorphisms (mtSNPs) and diabetes risk. The results from a chi-square test validated the usage of RF for association studies using mtDNA. Indexes of important variables such as the Gini index and mean decrease in accuracy index performed well compared with chi-square tests in favor of finding mtSNPs associated with a real disease example, type 2 diabetes.

  • From the definition of the cruise ship mission based on the investigation of the customer needs and statistical estimates and to design of the residence area of the cruise ship, in this study a conceptual design of the traditional ship parts (the lower hull) was carried out. for the light weight estimation of the cruise ship, several methods that have been used for commercial ships were evaluated to adapt for the cruise ship, the main particulars of the ship were determined with the light weight estimation and the assumed dead weight. From these main particulars of the ship, the hull form was developed with CFD verification and the general arrangement for the lower hull was achieved. For several loading conditions the intact stability of ship was checked.

  • This paper investigates the economic design of synthetic control charts. The synthetic control chart has been proven to be statistically superior to the $\bar{X}$-control chart, but its economic characteristics have not been known. We develop an economic model of the synthetic control chart, based on Duncan's model. The synthetic chart has one more decision variable, the lower control limit for the conforming run length. In addition to this, the significance level and the power of the synthetic chart are more complicated than those of the $\bar{X}$-chart. These features make the optimization problem more difficult. We propose an optimization algorithm by adapting the congruent gradient algorithm. We compare the optimal cost of the synthetic chart with that of (equation omitted)-control chart, under the same input parameter set of Duncan’s. For all cases investigated, the synthetic chart shows superior to the $\bar{X}$-chart. The synthetic control chart is easy to implement, and it has better characteristics than the $\bar{X}$-chart in economical sense as well as in statistical sense, so it will be a good alternative to the traditional control charts.

  • It is very important to determine the likelihood ratios and the prior odds for designing a Bayesian processor in Built-In-Test system. Using traditional statistics, it is not difficult to determine the initial prior odds from the field data. For a newly designed system, development testing data or laboratory testing data could be used to replace field data. The likelihood ratios which playa key role in the Bayesian processor must be carefully determined, based on laboratory testing and statistical techniques. In this paper, expressing and determining the likelihood ratios by Geometric areas, Test, and Analytical method will be presented.

  • A review of probability density function(PDF) methodology and direct numerical simulation for the purpose of modeling turbulent combustion are presented in this study where particular attention is focused on the modeling problem of turbulent molecular mixing term appearing in PDF transport equation. Existing mixing models results were compared to those evaluated by direct numerical simulation in a turbulent premixed medium with finite rate chemistry in which the initial scalar field is composed of pockets of partially burnt gases to simulate autoignition. Two traditional mixing models, the least mean square estimations(LMSE) and Curl#s model are examined to see their prediction capability as well as their modeling approach. Test calculations report that the stochastically based Curl#s approach, though qualitatively demonstrates some unphysical behaviors, predicts scalar evolutions which are found to be in good agreement with statistical data of direct numerical simulation.

  • Appropriate random variables and probability density functions based on statistical analysis should be defined to execute reliability analysis. Most studies have focused on only normal distributions or assumed that the variables showing non-normal characteristics follow the normal distributions. In this study, the reliability problem with non-normal probability distribution was dealt with using the convolution method in the case that the integration domains of variables are limited to a finite range. The results were compared with the traditional method (linear transformation of normal distribution) and Monte Carlo simulation method to verify that the application was in good agreement with the characteristics of probability density functions with peak shapes. However it was observed that the reproducibility was slightly reduced down in the tail parts of density function.

  • In this paper, we present the traditional GPS Position- Velocity (PV) model to apply for both Discrete-Time Kalman Filter and Discrete-Time $H_{\infty}$ Filter. The positioning algorithms of both filters are proposed for a stand-alone low-cost GPS module to increase its accuracy. For disturbance cancellation, the Kalman Filter requires the statistical information about process and measurement noises while the $H_{\infty}$ Filter only requires that these noises are bounded. Experiments show that with the same measurement data, $H_{\infty}$ Filter gives us better positioning results compared with Least-Squared method and Kalman Filter.

  • Characteristics of precipitation in Seoul have been examined by using long-term observational data. Precipitation records from modern rain gauges were used for 1908-1996, together with the traditional Korean rain gauge (called Chukwookee) observations for 1777-1907. A linear trend analysis of seasonal total rainfall shows no significant trends over the last 200 years A wavelet transform analysis was performed to figure out the transient variations of precipitation.

  • The present paper is introducing a new model so called TAR-GARCH in the context of stock price analysis Conventional models such as AR(l), TAR(l), ARCH(I) and GARCH( 1,1) are briefly reviewed and TAR-GARCH is suggested in analyizing domestic stock prices. Also, relevant iterative estimation procedure is developed. It is seen that TAR-GARCH provides the better fit relative to traditional first order models for stock prices data in Korea.
