  • The times when students are university age is a time or period of great transition and individual growth from adolescence to adulthood. Students are still semidependent upon their parents both economically and psychologically. However, it is also a time for growing self-determination and responsibility, such as studying on their own, finding effective approaches for job searches, and realizing or becoming aware of their future places in society. Therefore, as with middle and high school students, it can be a very confusing time, especially with an individual's self-identity. If students are able to read pertinent subject matter books, talk with people and expand their scope of recognition, they should be able to better grasp traditional values and current society viewpoints maturity levels and confidence will be greatly enhanced. In this study, I propose introducing and implementing the necessary methods for the organization and management of university student reading clubs, focusing specifically on case studies with the whole country library and information science to aid students in this critical time in their young lives.

  • In this paper, we propose optimal methodologies for classifying patent literature by examining various feature extraction methods, machine learning and deep learning models, and provide optimal performance through experiments. We compared the traditional BoW method and a distributed representation method (word embedding vector) as a feature extraction, and compared the morphological analysis and multi gram as the method of constructing the document collection. In addition, classification performance was verified using traditional machine learning model and deep learning model. Experimental results show that the best performance is achieved when we apply the deep learning model with distributed representation and morphological analysis based feature extraction. In Section, Class and Subclass classification experiments, We improved the performance by 5.71%, 18.84% and 21.53%, respectively, compared with traditional classification methods.

  • We have come to the time when we no longer ask why we computerize, but we need to concentrate on how to effectively accomplish the task. Application of computers has been very active in many fields in Korea during the last few years. And yet libraries are rather slow in taking adventage of computers most likely due to the lack of adequate funds and proper understanding of administrators, but also it seems that the majority of librarians are not quite prepared to adopt it. The purpose of this paper is to study the various aspects of computerization of library work, mainly for library administrators and librarians; although they need not understand the electronical and technical aspects of computers, but they should prepare themselves enough at least to be able to make proper requests to computer specialists in relation to what they want to accomplish with computers in order to improve the work of the library. In preparing this paper, not only successful cases of computer application which had been carried out in many libraries of advanced countries have been studied, but also various reasons for failure have been reviewed in order not to make the same mistakes. The paper covers those areas of library work where computers can be applied, such as feasibility, cost effectiveness, planning, implementation and some other aspects of computerization. As a conclusion, two viewpoints need to be discussed. First, each library should work cooperatively with other libraies instead of trying to develop its own computer programs, since we cannot affort to waste financial and technical resources as well as time. Computer applicable library work can be divided and assumed by certain libraries with responsibility to develop turn-key systems applicable to Korean university libraries. In order to carry out this task, there should be complete financial assistance from government, and in turn those libraries shouldf be required to offer assistance to any other interested libaries in Korea. Secondly, library school curriculum should offer such courses where future librarians can learn decision making, business administration and independent thinking in addition to traditional courses. Future librarians as well as those who are already in the profession should prepare themselves to meet the challenge of the professional requirements in order to meet the ever increasing and diverse needs for good quality service generated from the library users.

  • In ancient Egypt, temples were not only religious sanctuaries but also community centers. One of the core spaces created in the temple is the facility where priests and scribes copied and preserved texts on papyrus and other media. Its common designation was 'pr-mḏȝ'(House of Books) and the 'per-(nw)-seshw'(House of Scrolls). The general term used during that time was 'Per Ankh', and the modern term for it is 'temple library'. Therefore, this study first identified the character and identity of the Per Ankh attached to the temple, and then traced whether it is appropriate to designate 'healing place of the souls' depicted on the hypostyle hall(Per Ankh) in the Ramesseum(mortuary temple) built by Ramses II of the New Kingdom as a library. As a result, Per Ankh, a hieroglyph combining the Per(house) and Ankh(life), was revealed to be a multi-purpose complex facility consisting of a learning and research center, a treatment and healing center with medical facilities and sanatoriums, a religious ceremony and a center for the celebration of eternal life, a scriptorium and a library. Therefore, the traditional argument that Per Ankh refers to a library cannot be justified. In the same context, the inscription 'Ψυχῆς ἰατρεῖον' on the doorplate of the hypostyle hall of the Ramesseum, which was first introduced by Greek historian Hecataeus of Miletus in the 4th century BC, was translated into Latin as 'Psychēs Iatreion' by Diodorus Siculus in the 1st century BC and described as the motto of the sacred library. However, Psyche is the goddess of Greek and Roman mythology, and Iatreion means hospital(clinic, healing center) and pharmacy, so Per Ankh in the Ramesseum is a space to heal the soul of the pharaoh (Ka). Therefore, 'Psychēs Iatreion = library' is a distortion and a mistranslation. It is not the motto of the library, but a metaphor for the Per Ankh.

  • The aim of this study was to collect and analyze the clinical studies of traditional herbal medicine and acupuncture treatments for colorectal cancer patients searched in Pubmed and Cochrane library in English. We collected the clinical studies, including randomized controlled trial, case control study and cohort study, in the PubMed and Cochrane library using keywords 'Colorectal Cancer', 'Korean Medicine', 'Traditional Chinese Medicine', 'Kampo' and 'Acupuncture'. Then we analyzed them according to the objective of the therapy, i.e. improving therapy prognosis, reducing chemotherapy's adverse event and reducing operational adverse event. In case RCT, we evaluate the quality of the study with jadad scale. Total 18 studies were selected. There were 3 studies about improving therapy prognosis, 6 studies about reducing chemotherapy's adverse event and 9 studies about reducing operational adverse event. Traditional medicine might improve therapy prognosis in terms of the survival rate, relapse/metastasis rate, quality of life and immune function. The specific herbal formula, 'Goshajinkigan' might not be successful about reducing chemotherapy's adverse event, peripheral neurotoxicity. 'Hangeshanshinto' might reduce the duration of oral mucositis but it is not clear to reduce the incidence of that. 'PHY906' might reduce the incidence of diarrhea. Acupuncture might reduce operational adverse event such as gastrointestinal dysfunction and pain. And 'Daikenchuto' might not be successful in reducing operational adverse event, gastrointestinal dysfunction. Further studies are needed to clarify the efficacy of traditional herbal medicine and acupuncture for colorectal cancer patients.

  • Education of library and information science must focus on practical education acted upon as a laboratory room in the characteristics of learning, because it cultivates a librarian as an information expert who can conduct professional affairs and services, applying traditional theory to the practical business of library and information. This dissertation suggested a new paradigm of an instructional media center as an advanced laboratory room which faithfully can run the curriculum of a library and information science for cultivating librarians, information experts who can satisfy the 21C information society. To carry out this purpose, I considered the various opinions of professors and librarians, after investigating and analyzing facilities and furnishings of laboratory rooms and teaching and learning data related to departments of library and information science in 32 universities. These contents can be summarized as follows : 1) Constructional media centers connected to education of library and information science sets laboratory rooms for practical classification and cataloging classes; laboratory rooms for film media which can utilize advanced media, listening tools, and practical materials; information management laboratory rooms which can experience the various information research methods through the Internet, cultivate the ability of information application, and teach the curriculum of library and information science related to computers. 2) Arrangement plans linked to laboratory rooms for classification and cataloging, one for film media, and one for information proceedings are as follows: , , and . 3) The size of each room is $162m^2$ (49.1pying); the number of persons to be admitted is about 40 to 50; each room has one media expert and one assistant as operating manager of exclusive responsibility. 4) Instructional & learning data which must be contained as instructional media of library and information science include computers, marginal tools related to it, listening materials, supplies for ordering books, teaching aids containing various equipment and tools, textbooks for practice, books connected to classification and cataloging for practice, and textbooks related to practical subjects and reference books. 5) Industrial media centers belonging to library and information science require for practice, general furnishings like bookshelves, and various material depository boxes.

  • Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of application of Traditional East Asian Herbal Medicine (TEAM) in the treatment of Atrophic Vaginitis (AV). Methods: Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) were obtained from PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, CNKI, RISS, NDSL, and KISS. The risk of bias was assessed by using Cochrane's risk of bias tool, and RevMan 5.3 software was used. Results: 26 RCTs with 3,162 patients were identified and reviewed. Among them, 21 RCTs observe the effect of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. 23 RCTs reported treatment groups was statistically effective than control groups in the study. Also, the recurrence rate was estimated in 10 RCTs and was lower than control groups. 12 studies observed adverse events (AEs) and severe AEs were not reported. Conclusions: This review suggested that TEAM was safe and effective in the treatment of AV. TEAM may also decrease the recurrence rate. However, this could not be proven conclusively. To ensure evidence-based clinical practice, well-designed trials with larger sample sizes are needed.

  • User Education is one of the main activities among the traditional library services. Nowadays information technology has brought drastic changes into in the libraries, especially in the types of information sources, information users' behavior and the user education programs. The users need to know new information skills to retrieve the adequate information they need, and consequently libraries should develop new instruction programs to meet the user needs according to the radical changes of information technology and daily increasing electronic Information sources including internet resources. In this paper it was researched how to use the library websites for information instruction at the university libraries in Korea, USA and Canada through literature and by visiting the websites of the university libraries. It was found that Korean university libraries focus on providing the physical access to information, while American and Canadian university libraries focus on providing the intellectual access to information as well as the physical access to information. Most Korean university libraries have the entries about library history, library services and collection, outside networked information sources on the menu of their homepages, while there are guides how to use information sources such as subject bibliographies, reference tools, network resource tools, and guides how to write a paper, and information for user instruction on the websites of the western university libraries. It is very promising to make full use of the library webpages for library user education, which nowadays provide very powerful communication interface and make the library users find appealing and accessible.

  • Libraries, not only research libraries but also public libraries, have been fundamentally affected by the immense spread of the Internet and the World Wide Web. Many public libraries have their Web pages, through which they are providing their new and conventional services. There are also web sites which provide library-like services. This paper shows an experimental project named Internet Public Library Asia, which provides information in multiple languages of information resources published in Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages. This paper firstly overviews how traditional public libraries have been affected by the Internet. Then, it describes a few aspects from the viewpoint of crucial library function on the Internet and also from the viewpoint of Asian resources and users. This paper secondly proposes a model to serve information about valuable resources published in multiple Asian languages, and then shows the metadata schema and a few software tools developed for IPL-Asia The name of IPL is borrowed from Internet Public Library based at University of Michigan, since it is, in part, a collaborative activity with the IPL in Michigan. The metadata schema is defined based both on Dublin Core and IEEE LOM and adapted for parallel description in the four languages, i. e. , Chinese, Japanese, Korean and English. The software tools provide functions to support collaboration among people engaged in development of metadata database and metadata editing. These tools have been developed based on the XML technologies.
