This study describes the furniture terms in English relating to the types (Jang, Nong, Bandazi) and hinges (Gyeongchup) of traditional Korean wood furniture considering furniture globalization. Traditional Western chest, commode, wardrobe, cupboard, secretary, cabinet, and bookcase, which store something such as clothing, books, tablewares, small things and so on, could be compared with the Jang, Non, and Bandazi in terms of the pieces' use in researching the terms between English and Korean language. Hardwares decorating surfaces of the pieces, including the furniture types and details, were studied according to the shapes and the uses in order to explore the two terms. As a result, the terms of chest (Gaew), commode (Seolapjang), cupboard/buffet (Chanjang), wardrobe (Ottjang), cabinet (Jang), secretary (Jang), bookcase (Checkjang), and Half-opened chest (Bandazi) were analyzed and proposed in Korean and English language. In addition, the terms of the hinges between the two furniture were studied as well.

Culture is already deeply imbued in our lives. The furniture has become a way of life and the human became part of the culture. In this study, the aim is to explore the traditional furniture that is projected through the culture as a lifestyle. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the cultural implication in Korean traditional wooden furniture. Specific research questions in this study are as follows; 1) How to reflected house structure culture at traditional woodcraft furniture? 2) How to reflected interior space culture at traditional woodcraft furniture? 3) How to projected life form style culture at traditional woodcraft furniture? 4) How to harmonize between modern life culture and traditional woodcraft furniture? In order to achieve the purpose of this study, the literature of review was used masters of Korea's traditional woodcraft furniture. To collect information of Korean traditional furniture, the furniture was selected representative pieces of Korean Joseon Dynasty and interviewed an important intangible cultural asset somokjang. Based on the explore of Korean traditional furniture, the conclusions of this study are as follows; first, in the viewpoint of house framework culture, most of traditional furniture was made u sing a narrow interior space and was to be placed in close contact with the walls, and was developed as a type of molding on the front of the furniture to pursue beauty. Second, in the viewpoint of ondol culture, traditional furniture was closed to the wall by using low height furniture and furniture legs the structure punghyeol was used to reflect the phenomena of convective heat and humidity. Third, in the viewpoint of life form culture, traditional furniture was made that sat-down at eye level configuration is proportional to its size and height and appropriately been made. And patterns reflect the wishes of most things in nature and to be blessed with longevity origin were used in the decoration of wooden furniture. Finally, in the viewpoint of modern life culture, traditional furniture is simple but not dirty, and splendid but not luxurious. So although traditional wooden furniture are in any room or place, never discouraged by the dignity.

As exchange and cooperation have increased in each country or region and a variety of NGOs are getting increasingly active in the 21st century, environments for the industry of international conventions have continued to improve. However, since the industry is in the starting stage, facilities for international conventions and professional management personnel are deficient. In this study, furniture design that shows the cultural identity of Korea from the invention facilities is focused and efforts are made in order to make the shape that has functionality and meaning based on the analysis of space. Participants of diverse nationalities, who use international convention facilities, feel Korea through furniture and remember its image; thus, this study focuses on the furniture design that has the identity of Korea. The concept of furniture design has been derived based on the traditional aesthetic consciousness in the symbolic, cultural, and emotional light. The identity of design does not depend on the partial characteristics of the traditional society but modernity and internationality shall coexist along with traditionality. Modernity and globalism are reflected along with the traditional elements in furniture.

Furniture world which is closely associated with human life had been constantly developed, but traditional furniture disappeared after modernization almost. The reason lies rather in the importance of the diversity of Western-style furniture pursuing convenience and shapes, than in change of life style meanwhile. The diversity however reached the limit and it made a new advanced role of not only furniture, also design sector in general necessary, and as solution to solve this problem the immaterial value based on Eastern philosophy/mental was suggested in architecture and all around design sector overall as well. It means that the immaterial point which traditional furniture involved should be focused now and furthermore it's emotional and mental value which is more natural and has close relation with human being accordingly could be judged rightly. The reason why traditional furniture had been used since long time is the immaterial tendency which is well harmonized with the surrounding environment rather than the function. To verify this, the present study aimed to analyze not only the basic, also additional function of traditional furniture used in Hanok (traditional Koran-style house) by the inductive method for investigating the additional effects which users felt. Such immaterial role offers the user more convenience besides the original function of furniture and this made it available that furniture dominates the space. As good examples of such roles it was investigated that traditional furniture played meaningful roles like extensional serviceability, variable space, formation & movement of space, expression of grade of rank. That allowed that this study suggested the sustainable design and also the direction of development of interactive function of furniture through the expected effect having been showed in the modern space where the immaterial role of traditional furniture was applied to and the related cases.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the preference of living room furniture and to suggest Korean brand furniture design guideline. Subjects consisted of 171 residents aged up 20 years old in Seoul and Kyung-ki. area. The data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical package. The results of descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test and $x^2$-test are presented. The result of this study showed as fallows; 1) Livingroom funiture design with considering family life behavior were needed. 2) Modernizing traditional elements(motives and pattern) were preferred to duplicating traditional elements. 3) In furniture materials, easy to maintaining and cleaning and environmentally-sound materials as solid wood were highly appraised. Also, functional and harmonious furniture design with interior or other furniture were needed. So, modular-system furniture for livingroom would fulfill user's needs which are function, harmony and conciseness. 4) Elegant, easy, unique, functional, and simple design for livingroom were highly appraised. Considering these results, it is necessary to develop more on the modernized traditional furniture based on the various needs of users. These results provide a practical guideline for the development of the Korean brand design for livingroom furniture design.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the degree of discrimination and current usage of traditional furniture by people in contemporary society. Interest and preference for traditional furniture were also examined. The major findings were; 1) The traditional furniture owned by respondents were mainly document chest(mungab), dining table(soban) and open etagre(sabang-takja). Book cases(chaikjang) were rarely owned. Function of some furniture such as single shelf chest(danchung-jang), kitchen cabinet(chantak) and desk(suban) have been changed. 2) Highly discriminated tiradtional furniture were document chest(mungab), wardrobe(chest-jang) and dining table(soban). The degree of discrimination of letter rack(gobi), kitchen cabinet(chantak) and bookcases(chaikjang), however, were very low. 3) There was significant relation between discriminating ability and interest for the furniture and the status of posession of it. 4) Some socio-demographic variables were related to distriminating ability of the furniture. The group in high educational and economic level showed high discriminating ability of the furniture than those in lower levels. 5) These was positive correlation between discriminating ability and interest. The more interest, the higher discriminating ability. 6) Most preferred traditional furniture at present were three shelved clothing chest(samchung-jang), document chest(mungab), wardrobe chest(euiguri-jang) and open etagere(sabang-takja).

This paper aimed to suggest a new model of fusion furniture design which fits with our surroundings of today. This was performed by grasp and evaluation of recent trend of fusion culture in Korea in order to apply it to the furniture design of fusion style. Fusion furniture design was tried and applied to the table showing unique characteristics of Korea traditional small dining table with modern touch. The result of this paper could also contribute to distribute the unique characteristics and beauty of Korean traditional furniture in the World.

It should grant artistic values that can satisfy consumers having various tastes and scarcity values, plus it should put out aesthetic and creative expressions in furniture design putting into the beautiful traditional craft form values. Furthermore, it is required to create new design through values and spirit, materials, techniques, forms, pattern, and usages by interacting, coordinating, and combining tradition and modern East and West, plus craft and design.

The knobs of the Joseon dynasty furniture were mainly made with metal in its consideration about durability and decorative characteristics, small pieces of furniture, the Kori types of knobs, big furniture, that desires, descendants. Meanwhile huge furniture had Butchimdae which can be used also as the locking mechanisms, or just the locks which were used as handle. The handle type included the idea of shamanism that desiring health and longevity, scholarly spirit and prosperity of descendants, therefore the design metaphorically contained the shape of the long-living and prolific animals and plants. Even though traditional furniture were constructed as succinct proportions and simple decoration because of the affect of Confucianism. Therefore, we can notice the hope forefathers indwelling in the handles made of metal.
