A Study on the Power Factor Improvement of DC Power Regenerating Systems Using SVPWM (SVPWM을 이용한 직류전력 회생시스템의 역률개선에 관한 연구)

  • In the substations for traction systems and the large-scale discharging system of secondary batteries, the voltage of DC bus line goes up by the regenerated energy and the energy is usually wasted in resistor for system stability. This paper proposes the DC power regenerating system using a three phase PWM inverter. The proposed system can regenerate the excessive DC power from DC bus line to AC supply and control the power factor of AC supply to unity. To implement unity power factor, the magnitude of the inverter output voltage should be higher than that of AC supply and therefore SVPWM technique is adopted. Computer simulations are carried out to verify the validity of the proposed system.

  • Inverter module, which feeds the converted power to the traction motor for EMU. Consists of the power semiconductors with their gate drive unit(GDU)s and the control computer for driving, voltage, current and speed controls. Electrolytic condenser, connected to the gate drive unit and a core component to drive the power semiconductor, has problems such as reduction in lifetime and malfunction caused by electrical and mechanical characteristic changes from heat generation during high speed switching for generation of stable power. In this study, To check the service life of electrolytic condenser, the test was carried out in two ways. First, In the case of accelerated life testing of condenser, the Arrhenius model is a way of life testing. Another way is to analyze the reliability of the failure data by the method of parametric data analysis. Eventually, life time by accelerated life test than a method of failure data analysis(Weibull distribution) was found to be slightly larger output.

  • A newly-built inverter has to undergo a series of stress tests in the final stage of production line. This can be achieved by connecting it to a dynamometer consisting of a three-phase machine joined by a rigid shaft to a DC load machine. The latter is controlled to create some specific load characteristic needed for the test. In this paper a test method is proposed, in which no mechanical equipment is needed. The suggested test stand consists only of a inverter to be tested and a simulator converter. Both devices are connected back- to-back on the AC-side via smoothing reactors. The simulator operates in real-time as an equivalent load circuit, so that the device under test will only notice the behaviour of a three-phase machine under consideration of the load. In odor to wove rightness of the suggested test method, the simulation and actural experiment rallied out emulation for a 2.2kW induction motor.

  • The measurement of magnetic field is performed about DC and AC magnetic field in electric railway line. The test point is cap, on the converter/inverter box, on the traction motor and on the SIV, the height of measurement is bottom and 60 cm height. In case of AC magnetic field, the selected specific frequency is measured on the converter/inverter box. The AC magnetic field is checked and analysis through BNC output, DAQ cad and notebook PC.

  • In this paper, while electric multiple unit is moving on the rail, the content of measuring and analysing electric power consumption is mentioned. In order to measure the electric power consumption, we developed the power record analysis equipment and installed it the inside of the converter and inverter system to record the electric power consumption measured by voltage sensor and current sensor. Moving on the rail, we analysed traction power used up and regenerative power by using the measuring instrument. We expect that the measured and analysed data will offer basic research material to devise a energy reduction plan and introduce a new EMU system with high efficiency.

  • Two different designs of permanent magnet motors as direct wheel-set drive for the German high speed train ICE 3 are designed, one with surface mounted magnets (SM) and one with buried rotor magnets (BM). The surface magnet motor has $17\%$ less mass and a slightly higher efficiency and was therefore chosen for further investigations. Compared with the conventional drive system of the ICE 3, consisting of geared inverter fed induction machines, the gearless permanent magnet direct drive yields about $16\%$ lower losses. This calculation is based on the route parameters of the high speed track between Frankfurt/Main and Cologne in Germany, which is currently under construction.

  • Tilting train has been developed to increase the operational speed of the trains on conventional lines which have many curves. This train are tilted at curves to compensate for unbalanced carbody centrifugal acceleration to a greater extent than compensation produced by the track cant, so that passengers do not feel centrifugal acceleration and thus trains can run at higher speed at curves. This paper show that results of normal capacity calculations of the electrical equipments such as Main transformer, PWM converter, VVVF inverter, traction motor in TTX(tilting train express) with maximum operation speed 180 km/h.

  • The battery charger for high speed trail car is very important power source for the purpose of safety and system stability It provides control power of VVVF, CVCF, DC/DC converter and inverter for traction motor. This paper included power circuit of the ZVZCS type battery charger for high speed trail car and battery charging algorithm. Also the optimum parallel operation of 50kW battery charger for high speed trail car, and charring control method of Ni-Cd battery illustrates validity and effectiveness through the experiments.

  • Induction motors. having axial cooling channels in stator and rotor are designed for better cooling performance. Traction motors are one of those examples. And, thermal analysis gain more attention with the Increased demand of the motors, for reliable operation and life prolongation. was Induced to effective thermal conductivity through modeling. Through. fundamental comparison experiment, heat source experiment and transient state experiment, the induction motor using inverter was examined to produce heat source with frequency level and traced to thermal variation at starting and stopping. And thermal analysis using thermal network was compared with a transient state experiment.
