  • This paper contains the design specification and detail design for a seaborne towing winch system. We analyze operating condition of the system and decide the design specification for the towing winch system, and also perform a detail design for the subsystem such as hydraulic winch system, control equipment and power supplier at the full scale development. The performance of designed towing winch is established by load tests and sea trial tests.

  • Trawl fishing is a fishing method in which a large, motorized trawler tows a bag-shaped net to catch fish living at the bottom or middle layers. For a trawl gear, it is of utmost importance to select the gear size and towing speed suitable for the effective horsepower (EHP) of the trawler in the design stage. In general, the power required to move an object is proportional to the product of the object speed and resistance; therefore, there are various choices for the gear resistance and towing speed given the effective horsepower of the trawler. However, there have been few studies on the gear design of an appropriate scale for the towing speed given the effective horsepower of the trawler. In this study, the resistance and shape of three types of midwater trawl gears were analyzed using SimuTrawl, a computer simulation tool. In addition, the relationship between the propulsion force and speed of the ship was clarified when the size and effective horsepower of the trawler were determined. Finally, we suggested the relationship between the towing speed and the resistance of the gear when the trawler towed the net was investigated, and a specific method of selecting the gear size according to the towing speed.

Leader-Following Control System Design for a Towed Vessel by Tugboat

  • In this study, a motion control problem for the vessels towed by tugboats or towing ships on the sea is considered. The towed vessels, such as barge ships, are used for several purposes. Generally, these vessels have no power propulsion system and are towed using ropes and towing vessel (tugboats). The basic mathematical model of the towed vessel in which three active rudders are attached was introduced from a previous study. Owing to the dependency of the motions of the towed vessel to the towing ship, a method is suggested to cope with the undesirable disturbance and improve the tracking performance. For the simulation study, a model of the towed vessel with a towing ship is made, and necessary physical parameters are identified from the experiment. For the defined and linearized model, a control system is designed, and the control performance is also evaluated. A simulation study is conducted and the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified.

  • 전력연구원에서 설계한 5 MW급 일괄설치시스템의 예인안정성 및 내항성능 검증을 위해 수조모형시험을 실시하였다. 1/48 축소모형을 만들어 정수 및 파랑 중 시험을 수행하였다. 실선기준 4, 5, 6 knots의 대응속도로 예인하며 예인선의 장력을 계측하고, 실선의 필요 예인 동력을 추정하였다. 또한, 관성계측장치를 이용하여 모형의 6자유도 운동을 계측하였으며, 파랑 중 구속모형시험을 통해 내항성능을 확인하였다.

  • In the actual sea, the additional resistance due to external force such as wind, current and wave is accompanied, and the required power is added in response to these resistance. Especially when the ship is sailing at low speed, the effects of wind and current have a great impact on the safe control of the ship. Likewise, it is thought that the effects of wind and current have a great impact on the trawl ship control since the towing speed of a bottom trawl ship is a low speed of 3 to 4 knots. If the reduce of ship speed and the increase of engine power due to the influence of wind and current can be identified, the safe towing power can be calculated based on a given engine output. Thus, the appropriate size of a fishing gear can be determined. In this study, a total of 20 trawl operations were conducted for seasonal maritime research in the same research area according to the operation mode of propeller. Based on navigation data, trawl fishing data, and engine performance data acquired during the towing fishing gear, and data of ship speed, hull resistance, fishing gear resistance, wind force and current force according to an incidence angle were estimated. The overall power for these loads was calculated and compared with the measured engine power, and the effects of wind force and current force on the engine power were investigated.

저층 트롤선의 유효마력 산정에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental study on the estimating effective horse power of a bottom trawl ship)

  • In order to estimate the effective horse power(EHP) in towing net of a bottom trawl ship, the ship's resistance was calculated by using a series data of Yamagata and Wigley formula. Also the effective horse power for a ship(EHPs) was estimated versus the ship speed in sailing and the propulsive efficiency was calculated with the brake horse power and the effective horse power. Then the effective horse power for a ship and a trawl net were estimated in the application of the propulsive efficiency in towing net. The total effective horse power($EHP_T$) was average 187.6kW and the effective horse power for a 1.awl net($EHP_n$) was average 176.7kW at a smooth sea state in towing net. The ratio of $EHP_n$ to $EHP_T$ was about 94.0% and the value was higher slightly than was already informed at a smooth sea state. The power for keeping up a townet speed was required more about 20% of a maximum continuous power at a rather rough sea state than a smooth sea state. In the future, if the residual resistance is considered with a sea state, $EHP_n$ will be estimated more correctly Also the data of EHP estimated by this method will be used as the basic data to design a trawl net.

초고속선 실험을 위한 신형식 예인전차의 현가장치 설계시안 (Design Idea of Suspension for Traction Wheel of Novel High Speed Towing Carriage)

  • In the conventional towing tank, the ordinary towing carriage has a speed barrier which caused not only by the limitation of the length of towing tank but also the limitation of acceleration. Therefore the length of the towing tank should be decided carefully from the planning stage of the towing tank construction. Consequently the acceleration of the towing carriage should be taken less than 0.06g practically to avoid the slip of the wheel on rail. Due to the increasing demand of the high speed experiments on the development of special novel ship, the requirement of the high speed towing carriage is continuously increased recently. When the minimum measuring time of the towing experiment is prescribed as five seconds, the carriage should be accelerated with higher than 0.12 g to get the speed of 18 m/sec even in the towing tank having a length of 400m in length approximately. This means that the requirement of acceleration is bigger than twice of the ordinary practices of carriage acceleration. In such a condition the exerted total power of motor could not converted to traction force for the acceleration of the carriage without slip. To over come these difficulties a pair of horizontal traction wheels are reinforced to each of the ordinary vertical carrier wheel and appropriate suspension system has been devised for the towing tank of super high speed operation. It is believed that the design of novel suspension system adaptable for the high speed acceleration of towing carriage will play a important role as a reference for the remodeling of the towing tank for high speed experiment.

강조류에서 중량물 운반 부선의 예인력에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Towing Force of Heavy Loaded Barge against Strong Current)

  • 예인선 A호와 B호가 재킷을 실은 부선을 예인하기 위하여 진도 벽파항에서 출항하여 진도대교 부근 조력발전소 예정지로 운항 중 예인능력을 갑자기 상실하고 진도대교로 표류하여 바지선에 실려 있던 대형 철구조물인 일명 '재킷'이 제1진도대교 교각 및 중앙부 상판과 충돌한 사고가 발생하였다. 이 사고로 바지선에 살려 있던 조력 발전소 건설용 철구조물이 진도대교 중앙부 하단지점 바다로 추락했으며 제1진도대교 교각 1개가 일부 파손되고 상판의 바람막이도 세 군데가 구겨지는 등의 피해가 발생했다. 본 연구에서는 상기의 해양사고와 관련하여 부선의 운항경로가 갑자기 바뀌며 예인력을 상실하였던 해역의 시간대별 조류속도를 추정하고, 재킷을 실은 부선을 예인하기 위한 적정한 예인력을 산정함과 동시에 당시 기상 상황 하에서의 부선의 예인 안전성을 검토하고자 한다.

트롤어선용 노즐 프로펠러 추진기 설계에 관한 연구 (A study on the design of nozzle propeller for trawler)

  • Trawlers have to a sufficient towing force due to it's characteristics of the high performance. The newly constructed trawler with the conventional propellers shows the sufficient towing force, so that the propeller and engine are optimized. In the 1970s, many trawlers were imported from overseas by Korean fisheries industries. But the engine output degradation with year by year caused the trawlers to decrease the towing speed of the vessels. On the previous studies, the nozzle propeller had not so good efficiency with increasing of resistance in high-speed cruising operation over 15knots. But the trawling operation is just required the higher thrust and towing force, so that the nozzle propeller is very profitable for the it's effectiveness. A new nozzle propeller was designed for the 4,462G/T trawler, Dong-San, operated by Dongwon Industries Co., Ltd. to improve the towing speed, and the model tests were performed. The model ship and model propeller are preciously manufactured and used model tests in basin. The resistance test and propeller open water test were performed for the cases of the half and full loads. The required engine horse power and RPM were evaluated analytically by the speed-power curve, when the trawler was equipped with the nozzle propeller. The results of tests showed that the towing speed 4.85knots on the design load waterline requires the 200 engine RPM and 2,567ps in the delivered horsepower.
