Application Development and Performance Analysis of Smartphone-based QR Code Interpreter (스마트폰 기반의 QR코드 해석기 성능분석 및 응용개발)

  • Recently, with the advance of Ubiquitous era, the types of services become diverse. Especially, due to the rapid development of mobile technology, the new functions of mobile phones are added and the new applications of mobile phones are developed actively. Among the various applications related to mobile phones, 2 dimensional barcode-based applications are increasing. 2 dimensional barcode is mostly used for the management of past record. However, by combing 2 dimensional barcode with mobile phones, the application areas of 2 dimensional barcode are expanded to the means of publicity for education, tourism, and festivals. In this paper, we develop a QR code decoder running on smartphones, which connects on-line and off-line. In addition, we modify our decoder by detecting the point for performance enhancement based on TRIZ. We compare our decoder with an open-source based decoder in terms of the code size of decoding and the speed of decoding in order to prove that our decoder has a better performance than the other. Finally, we introduce two applications: u-map and u-pamphlet as QR code applications.

Usage and Satisfaction of Food-related Smartphone Applications of Office Workers in Seoul Area (수도권 지역 직장인의 음식 관련 스마트폰 어플리케이션 이용 실태와 만족도)

  • This study was conducted to figure the usage status and satisfaction of food-related smartphone applications by generic characteristics and food purchase attributes of Seoul area workers. The results show that health vitality-oriented group, married compared to single, those with higher eating-out expenses possess more food-related applications (p<0.05). The primary reason for the usage of food-related applications was the need for food-related information (53.7%). The highest application subjects in use were restaurant-related information and recipe information. The real-life aid food-related applications utilized most were also restaurant information (60.7%) and recipe information (28.3%). Health vitality-oriented respondents especially turned out to use nutrition information and food functionality information often (p<0.01), and recipes or calories & diet information usage frequency was higher in women than in men (p<0.001). Restaurant-related information were more frequently used by singles, highly educated, and those with high income and eating-out expenses (p<0.05). Satisfaction of food-related applications was normal (3.06), showing that the satisfactory level is not yet high. Satisfaction regarding purchase attributes showed that the health vitality-oriented group (3.19) was more satisfied compared to other groups (p<0.05), and women (3.16) were more satisfied that men (2.89) were (p<0.05). Inconveniences of food-related applications were highest in usage fee (3.29), simplicity of information (3.28), lack of reliability of information and need for update (3.10). The results of this study implies that various subdivisions of food-related applications users should be implemented; at the same time, food-related applications covering diverse subjects that regard each group's characteristics should be developed in order to utilize food-related knowledge and information as a marketing tool in the food industry; this can efficiently be done by paying attention to the quality of information and updates within applications.

Using Choice-Based Conjoint Analysis to Determine Smartphone Choice - a Student's Perspective

  • The ability of smartphones to facilitate various services like mobile banking, e-commerce and mobile payments has made them part of consumers' lives. Conjoint analysis (CA) is a marketing research approach used to assess how consumers' preferences for products or services develop. The potential applications of CA are numerous in consumer electronics, banking and insurance services, job selection and workplace loyalty, consumer packaged goods, and travel and tourism. Choice-Based Conjoint (CBC) analysis is the most commonly used CA approach in marketing research. The purpose of this study is to utilise CBC analysis to investigate the relative importance of smartphone attributes that influence consumer smartphone preference. An experiment was designed using Sawtooth CBC Software. 326 students attempted the online survey. Utility values were derived by Hierarchical Bayes (HB) estimation and used to explain consumers' smartphone preferences. All the six attributes used for the study were found to significantly influence smartphone preference. Smartphone brand was the most important, followed by the price, camera, RAM, battery life, and storage. This study is one of the first to use Sawtooth CBC analysis to assess consumer smartphone preference based on the six attributes. We provide implications for the development of new smartphones based on attributes.

Information Technology Needs and Benefits in Multi-Unit Restaurants

  • This study attempted to investigate and compare the level of needs and expected benefits of information technology(IT) applications in restaurant operation from managerial and employee levels. Self-competence levels, education and training needs, and the company IT application levels were evaluated. The respondents for the study were the staff of full-service, mid-scale restaurants owned by a firm. Among the respondents, 17.6% were in managerial level(managers) and 82.4% were in employee level(employees). The results of this study indicated that compared to employees, managers perceived more in-depth that IT is beneficial and is needed in restaurant operation. Both groups rated IT as very much needed and beneficial to restaurant operation. However, managers rated their own technological competence significantly higher than the employees did. Both groups expressed the desire for IT training and education although the managers' needs were stronger than the other group. The company's IT application level was assessed by the managers and employees at a slightly higher than average score on a 5-point scale, showing no difference between the groups. The study findings show that the respondents perceived the IT needs and benefits than the present IT application level of restaurants, which suggests more IT applications be adopted to the restaurant operations.

  • Purpose: Online-To-Offline Food Delivery Services (O2O-FDS) is a new element in hotel supply chain that digitalizes traditional food delivery practices using new technologies. Targeting hotel guests, the present research is to explore the role of trust in the relationship between food delivery app on loyalty, price efficiency, and convenience. This new perspective is an essential value addition in the field of hotel marketing in relation to O2O-FDS. Research design, data and methodology: The present research conducted the mediator variable regression analysis as a main statistical methodology to identify the connections between three main constructs using total 244 South Korean participants that were recruited from the professional research company in Korea. Results: The statistical findings based on three steps of mediator regression approach strongly indicate that the trust of food delivery app in the hotel sector plays a moderating role in the relationship between price efficiency and convenience of food delivery app and customer loyalty of food delivery app in the hotel business. Conclusions: This research concludes that hotel practitioners must strive to provide adequate information on food delivery applications in order to increase price efficiency and convenience relative to traditional food and beverage services, influencing consumer trust in food delivery technology.

Pedestrian Network Models for Mobile Smart Tour Guide Services

  • The global positioning system (GPS)-enabled mobile phones provide location-based applications such as car and pedestrian navigation services. The pedestrian navigation services provide safe and comfortable route and path guidance for pedestrians and handicapped or elderly people. One of the essential components for a navigation system is a spatial database used to perform navigation and routing functions. In this paper, we develop modeling and categorization of pedestrian path components for smart tour guide services using the mobile pedestrian navigation application. We create pedestrian networks using 2D base map and sky view map in urban area. We also construct pedestrian networks and attributes of node, link, and POI using on-site GPS data and photos for smart pedestrian tour guide in the major walking tourist spots in Jeju.

  • Approximations for the null distribution of a test statistic arising in multivariate analysis to test homogeneity of variances and a mixture of two beta distributions by making use of a product of beta baseline density function and a polynomial adjustment, so called beta-polynomial density approximant, are discussed. Explicit representations of density and distribution approximants of interest in each case can easily be obtained. Beta-polynomial density approximants produce good approximation over the entire range of the test statistic and also accommodate even the bimodal distribution using an artificial example of a mixture of two beta distributions.

Performance Embodiment of Acrylic Material in Art Painting Creation

  • In art painting creation, painting material is an important carrier. Acrylic as a young material has very wide applications in modern art. This study mainly analyzed the properties of acrylic material. Firstly, the emergence and development of acrylic were introduced, and then its material characteristics were analyzed. Finally, the performance embodiment of acrylic paintings was compared with oil paintings and watercolor paintings. It was found that acrylic paintings not only had some advantages of oil and watercolor paintings but also had own style characteristics; acrylic paintings also have advantages in durability and flexibility; acrylic paintings could present the characteristics that oil and watercolor paintings did not have while realizing the techniques of them. Acrylic paintings have a broad development space in art creation, which is worth further attention and promotion.

  • ChatGPT has had a significant impact on society, business, and academia by influencing individuals and organizations through knowledge generation and supporting users in locating conversational inquiries and answers. It can transform how people seek answers by combining human-like conversational skills with AI. By eradicating the cumbersome process of selecting from multiple options, users can conduct preliminary research or create optimized solutions. The purpose of this research is to investigate how consumers use ChatGPT and digital transformation, specifically in terms of knowledge development, searching and recommending, and optimizing accessible possibilities. Using many linked theories, we address the potential implications and insights that can be gained from ChatGPT's early stages and its integration with other applications such as robotics, service automation, and the metaverse. Finally, the application of ChatGPT has practical, theoretical, and phenomenological impacts, in addition to improving users' experiences.

  • This editorial on 'Smart Services and Internet of Things (IoT)' focuses on the topics related to the applications of IoT to consumer products and services, which have become 'smarter' thanks to IoT. This special issue explores, in different ways, the phenomena of smart services and the role of IoT in business innovation across different contexts such as product-service system, car auction, tourism industry, communicating platform, online travel agency, self-service retail, and bike sharing. We hope that this special issue will provide a significant step forward in enabling researchers and practitioners to understand smart services and IoT.
