  • Hydraulic equipment have been traditionally used for constructing machines with high power density and durability. In particular, pumps and motors are considered essential equipment, and are consistently investigated to find suitable methods for optimal utilization of their characteristics. A kinematic analysis of a swash-plate-type piston motor model using the hydraulic analysis program SimulationX$^{(R)}$ to model a nine-piston motor and simulate a swash-plate angle with a low-pulsation and high-efficiency performance of the motor has been provided in this paper. Finally, along with the theoretical consideration of the stroke, the effect of changing strokes and notch shape (V, U, non-type) on the pulsation is simulated to analyze and determine the effects of reduction in pulsation. The optimal swash-plate angle and stroke thus obtained will reduce the trial and error in future design.

  • A new instantaneous torque control technique is presented for a high performance control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor. Using the model reference adaptive system technique, the linkage flux of the motor is estimated and the torque is instantaneously controlled by the proposed torque controller combining with a variable structure control and space vector PWM. The proposed torque control provides the advantage of reducing the torque pulsation caused by the flux harmonics. This control strategy is applied to the high torque PM synchronous motor drives for direct drive systems and is implemented by using a software of the DSP TMS320C30. The experiments are carried out for this system and the results well demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control.

  • Torque pulsation mechanism and highly nonlinear magnetic characterization of switched reluctance motors(SRM) lead to unfavorable torque ripple and limit the variety of applications in industry. In this paper, a modification method proposed for torque ripple minimization of SRM based on conventional torque sharing functions(TSF) to improve maximum speed of torque ripple-free operation considering converter limitations. Due to increasing phase inductance in outgoing phase during the commutation region, reference current tracking can be deteriorated especially when the speed increased. Moreover, phase torque production in incoming phase may not be reached to the reference value near the turn-on angle in which the incremental inductance would be dramatically decreased. Torque error for outgoing phase can cause increasing the resultant motor torque while it would be negative for incoming phase and yields reducing the motor torque. In this paper, a modification method is proposed in which phase torque tracking error for each phase under the commutation added to the other phase so that the resultant torque remained in constant level. This yields to extend constant torque region and reduce peak phase current when the speed increased. Simulation and experimental results for four phase 4 KW, 8/6 SRM validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • A study on the multi-objective optimization of Interior Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Motors (IPMSMs) with 2, 3, 4 and 5 flux barriers per magnetic pole, based on Genetic Algorithm (GA) is presented by considering the aspect of irreversible demagnetization. Applying the 2004 Toyota Prius single-layer IPMSM as the reference machine, the asymmetrical two-, three-, four- and five-layer rotor models with the same amount of Permanent-Magnets (PMs) is presented to improve the torque characteristics, i.e., reducing the torque pulsation and increasing the average torque. A reduction of the torque pulsations is achieved by adopting different and asymmetrical flux barrier geometries in each magnetic pole of the rotor topology. The demagnetization performance in the PMs is considered as well as the motor performance; and analyzed by using finite element method (FEM) for verification of the optimal solutions.

  • This paper studies the torque characteristics of CDTP controlled BLDCM with various back-EMF waveforms. We propose a CDTP method to suppress torque pulsation due to commutation time and point. It is adopted to control the BLDCM with real back-EMF waveforms through the Hague's method for minimizing torque ripple. Real back-EMF waveforms are produced with a magnetic fringing factor and crest width of back-EMF. The performance and characteristics of the proposed control method are analyzed by simulation and verified through experimental results.

  • This paper presents the rotor study on the deal with the shape design with a flux barrier to minimize the cogging torque of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(IPMSM). In order to consider the notch effect, the torque characteristics according to the shape of notch is performed and analyzed. From the this results, we found that an optimal location and radius of the notch effectively suppresses the torque pulsation of the IPM drive. The rotor shape design also shows improvement in the average torque

  • Voltage unbalance will be generated by the load unbalance operation such as combination operation of single & three phase load and current unbalance will be more severe by the deteriorated voltage quality. Under the these unbalance conditions, all power electronic converters used in different types of electronic systems can increase harmonic disturbances by injecting harmonic currents directly into the feeder grid of three phase 4-wire. Harmonic current may cause torque to decrease. it may also overheat or become noisy and torque oscillation in the rotor can lead to mechanical resonance and vibration. This paper presents a scheme on the characteristics of induction motor under the combination of linear & non-linear loads at the three phase 4-wire power distribution system by the unbalance and harmonic components. It was able to confirm that the number of torque pulsation decreased and torque ripple values increased by the harmonics that reduction was difficult by five harmonics filters at additional driving time of single-phase non-linear load.

  • In this paper, improved direct torque control(DTC) of five-phase induction motor(IM) is proposed. Due to the additional degrees of freedom, five-phase IM drives present unique characteristics. One of them is the ability of enhancing the torque producing capability of the motor. Also five-phase motor drives possess many others advantage compared with the traditional three-phase motor drives. Such as, reducing the amplitude and increasing of frequency of torque pulsation, reducing amplitude of current per phase without increasing the voltage per phase and increasing the reliability. The direct torque control method is advantageous when it is applied to the five-phase IM. Because the five-phase inverter provides 32 space vectors in comparison to 8 space voltage vectors by the three-phase inverter. The 32 space voltage vectors are divided into three groups according to their magnitudes. The characteristics and dynamic performance of traditional five-phase DTC are analyzed and new DTC for five-phase IM is proposed. Therefore, a more precise flux and torque control algorithm for the five-phase IM drives can be suggested and explained. For presenting the superior performance of the pro-posed direct torque control, experimental results is presented using a 32 bit fixed point TMS320F2812 digital signal processor

  • This paper deals with the effects of pulsating flow on volumetric efficiency, which may be generated during the gas exchange procedure, due to piston motion, valve event on intake and exhaust stroke and unsteady flow of turbocharger of a three-cylinder four stroke turbo-charged diesel engine. Consequently, volumetric efficiency affects significantly the engine performance; torque characteristics, fuel economy and further to emission and noise level. As the expansion ratio became larger the engine speed varies and torque increases, the pressure pulsation in an exhaust gas pipe acts as an increasing factor of intake air charging capacity totally. The phase and amplitude of pressure pulsation in the intake system only affects volumetric efficiency favorably, if it is well matched and tuned effectively to the engine. Thus, to verify the exact phase and amplitude of the pressure variation is the ultimate solution for the air-flow ratio assessment in the intake stroke. Some experimental results of pressure diagrams in the intake pipe and gas-flow of turbine in-outlet are presented, under various kinds of operating condition.

  • For reduction of the amount of CO2 emitted from ships, power generation characteristics of two power generation systems consisting of a high-efficiency permanent magnet synchronous generator and diode bridge rictifiers are discussed in this paper. One of the discussed systems has three-phase stator windings, and the other has two sets of three-phase (six-phase) stator windings to reduce pulsation in the electromagnetic torque and DC current. Experimental results reveal that the power generation efficiency of the system having six-phase stator windings is higher than that of the system having three-phase stator windings for a light load. The maximum power generation efficiency of the system having six-phase stator windings is almost the same as that of the system having three-phase stator windings. For the electromagnetic torque of the system having six-phase stator windings, the width of pulsation is about one-fifth compared to the system having three-phase stator windings.
