  • Today, if you don't reflect trends in developing new content crafts, you can't succeed in marketing. This is because the trend is the driving force that leads to the needs of consumers that come and go temporarily. The current market is changing and wants new lifestyle trends. As a trend of such latent desire, the purpose is to develop high-value-added interior vases using rice cake patterns and ceramic complexes. In the manufacturing method, the first rice cake patterns writing tool is stamped at a different angle from the top of the toremi board (a new term created above) written in the process of the pot work. A cylinder is made of a second potter's wheel, and after the outer wall is double-flavored, the cylinder is quickly rotated to be extended by pushing it from inside to outside by hand. The purpose of this vase is to develop a decorative vase with high added value by experimenting with various geometric patterns that are dismantled vertically and horizontally at a high speed with the static rice cake pattern stamped on the third, and then utilizing the various rice cake patterns developed in this way as the shape of a jar.

  • To investigate the relationship between the effect of potassium basal and top dressing amount on rice plant under the limed condition, a pot experiment was conducted with Milyang 21, rice variety. Growing status, yield components and chemical component of rice, plant were determined and soils were analyzed along with the growing stages and obtained results are as follows. 1. Control treatment, without lime application shows a good vegetative growth as compared with lime treated one. However grain yield was higher in lime treated pot when potassium was applied as basal and top dressing. 2. There was no big difference between potassium applied and control treatment on growing status of nice plant until 20 days after transplanting. However in case of lime treated pot big difference were observed 20 days after transplanting resulting lower grain yield as compared with control treatment. This trend were severe in a lime treated treatment. 3. In control treatment, potassium basal dressing shows higher grain yield as increase the amount of basal dressing and the highest yield obtained in all basal potassium application treatment. However in case of lime treated pot when two-third of potassium were applied as basal dressing, potassium content of rice became lower at reproductive stage and resulted lower yield. When we applied all the potassium as a basal dressing, there were no differences as compared with control treatment in terms of grain yield. 4. The soil condition that affects potassium absorption disorder in rice plant such as unlimed condition, potassium application should be done as a basal dressing. However in limed condition that potassium absorption disorder occurs scarcely, and potassium content exists unsufficient amount in soil, large amount of potassium as basal dressing and the rest as top dressing are recommended. 5. The higher content of potassium in rice plant at the reproductive growing stage results heavier tillers as compared with lower one so that heavier tillers produce more grain yield. 6. At vigorous growing stage there was a positive correlation between electric conductivity of soil and amount of potasium absorbed by rice plant. This fact suggests that to obtain higher yield large amount of potassium top dressing at late of vegetative growing stage are necessary so that the content of potassium in rice plant will increase and results higher yield.

  • Rice yield and protein content have been shown to be highly variable across paddy fields. In order to characterize this spatial variability of rice within a field, the two-year experiments were conducted in 2002 and 2003 in a large-scale rice field of $6,600m^2$ In year 2004, an experiment was conducted to know if prescribed N for site-specific fertilizer management at panicle initiation stage (VRT) could reduce spatial variation in yield and protein content of rice while increasing yield compared to conventional uniform N topdressing (UN, ,33 kg N/ha at PIS) method. The trial field was subdivided into two parts and each part was subjected to UN and VRT treatment. Each part was schematically divided in $10\times10m$ grids for growth and yield measurement or VRT treatment. VRT nitrogen prescription for each grid was calculated based on the nitrogen (N) uptake (from panicle initiation to harvest) required for target rice protein content of $6.8\%$, natural soil N supply, and recovery of top-dressed N fertilizer. The required N uptake for target rice protein content was calculated from the equations to predict rice yield and protein content from plant growth parameters at panicle initiation stage (PIS) and N uptake from PIS to harvest. This model equations were developed from the data obtained from the previous two-year experiments. The plant growth parameters for this calculation were predicted non-destructively by canopy reflectance measurement. Soil N supply for each grid was obtained from the experiment of year 2003, and N recovery was assumed to be $60\%$ according to the previous reports. The prescribed VRT N ranged from 0 to 110kg N/ha with average of 57kg/ha that was higher than 33kg/ha of UN. The results showed that VRT application successfully worked not only to reduce spatial variability of rice yield and protein content but also to increase rough rice yield by 960kg/ha. The coefficient of variation (CV) for rice yield and protein content was reduced significantly to $8.1\%\;and\;7.1\%$ in VRT from $14.6\%\;and\;13.0\%$ in UN, respectively. And also the average protein content of milled rice in VRT showed very similar value of target protein content of $6.8\%$. Although N use efficiency of VRT compared to UN was not quantified due to lack of no N control treatment, the procedure used in this paper for VRT estimation was believed to be reliable and promising method for managing within-field spatial variability of yield and protein content. The method should be received further study before it could be practically used for site-specific crop management in large-scale rice field.

  • A survey was conducted to study the ingredient and the nutrition of Yukwa consumed in Jeonbuk region. Additional survey was performed to the adult population in Jeobook region to identify the recognition and improvement of Yukwa. The ingredient and baking process varies from each region. The modernization of Yukwa baking process requires introduction of new flavour using new ingredient and simplification of the baking process as these two factors are holding back the modernization of the Yukwa. Top quality Yukwa can be produced by standardized baking process, using top quality agricultural goods, cultivated in Korea. The key to making Yukwa more accessible to the public is by simplifying the current baking process, including the drying process Bandegi, which is the most complicated process of all.

  • In this study we examined the changes in expression of pigments in black rice during kernel development, which were sampled at 2~3-day intervals to the 40th day after flowering. The first expression of pigment on kernels was observed on the seed coat about 5 days after flowering. At that times, the ratio of pigment expression was 0.08% of total area. The order in expression of pigments in black rice during kernel development was top first, followed by bottom, dorsal side, then ventral side. Maximum percentage of the total colored area in kernel was about 25 days after flowering. After that, the color has changed to dark purple from pale purple during kernel development after flowering. After harvesting, the non-uniform color kernels were observed. As a result, the ventral side in a kernel was a position of the non-uniform color such as a mixture of pale purple and dark purple. Also, we could be concluded that patten of pigment expression was similar in kernel development.

  • There are several certification systems in agricultural products in Korea. Some examples are organic certificate, GAP certificate, KPGI certificate, Top Fruits/ Rice certificate and so on. The certification systems have been launched to guarantee the quality and safety of agricultural products to consumer. Despite the definite objectives of each certification system, it is said that the certification systems have not been successful to convey the related information to consumers. One of the reasons is that there exist several certificates so make consumers confused. It is also quite true that maintaining and promoting an individual certification system are highly costly from a point of institute's view. This paper proposes a plausible solution to these problems by combining several certificates.

  • Varietal differences of grain filling duration and rate are generally recognized in rice (Oryza sativa L.). But the differences of grain filling characteristics between the parts within a panicle might be present since it takes 6-8 days to finish anthesis in a panicle. To elucidate this, 6 Japonica and 6 Japonica/Indica varieties were grown under three nitrogen levels at the Experimental Farm of Chungbuk National University in 1986, and grain filling characteristics of top, middle and bottom parts of a panicle were analyzed. Rice grain filling duration could be divided into 3 phases, i.e., Lag phase(LP) of 5 days after heading. Linear increasing period (LIP) of 5-20 days after heading and Late filling period (LFP) thereafter. Grain weight difference between the panicle parts was greater during LIP in all the varieties and was decreased during LFP. The difference was greater in Japonica/Indica varieties. Samgangbyeo and Seomjinbyeo had the shortest and the longest grain filling durations with 22.6 and 37.1 days, respectively. In average, grain filling duration of the bottom part of a panicle was 1-2 days shorter than that of top or middle part. The differences were negligible in Daecheongbyeo, Taebaegbyeo and Milyang 23, while it was greater in Tongil with 4.9 days. Grain filling rates were ranged from 0.612 to 1.097 mgㆍgrain$^{-1}$ㆍday$^{-1}$ㆍMilyang 23 showed the lowest rate with 0.612-0.682 mgㆍgrain$^{-1}$ㆍday$^{-1}$, while the rates of Baegyangbyeo, Yongmoonbyeo, Samgangbyeo, Nongbaeg and Daeseongbyeo were about 1 mgㆍgrain$^{-1}$ㆍday$^{-1}$ㆍGrain filling rate of bottom part of a panicle was lower than that of top or middle part. The difference was samll in Nongbaeg and Daeseongbyeo, while it was the greatest in Tongil with 0.222 mgㆍgrain$^{-1}$ㆍday$^{-1}$. Grain filling duration and rate were not afftected by nitrogen level, but varietal and spatial differences of grain filling characteristics were highly significant. However, the spatial difference of grain filling rates within a variety was not significant. Grain filling characteristics of each part of a panicle were significantly correlated (r=0.7207-0.9879) with those of a whole panicle.

  • A. The increases moisture contents of grain at R.H $75\%,\; and\; 28^{\circ}C$ 1) The moisture contents of polished rice were $0.4\%,\; 1 \%,\; 3.3\%$ higher than control after 4weeks in which had been infested with 100, 200, 500 individuals of weevil at the beginning. respectively. 2) The greatest moisture contents of polished rice was $16.26\%$ for 500 individual infested grain and the lowest one was $14.86\%$ for the 100 individual weevil infested grain after 4 weeks. 3) The increases in moisture contents of grain were proportionally greater with the size of the weevil population. B. Changes in moisture contents of polished rice at the three levels of cylinder which contain 3kgs of grain and 1000 weevils were infested at the beginning of the experiment. 1) The moisture contents of the grain at all the levels of the cylinder which was not infested with weevil, were consistantly decreased in 12 weeks. 2) The moisture contents of the grain at all the levels of the cylenders which had been infested with 1000 weevils at the beginning of the experiment, were increased except top lovel, that were $15.6\%$ for middle, $41.55\%$ for the bottom levels after 12 weeks. 3) The moisture contents of the grain were greater toward bottom in both weevil infested grain and in control. 4) The moisture content increase might be caused by the respiration of the weevils and deterioration of the grain by microorganisms. 5) There were no tendency to confine the weevils at any definite levels, but as the deterioration of the grain goes on, the weevil moved to top levels of cylinders. 5) The decreases in moisture contents of the grain at the top levels of the cylinders might be caused by diffusion of water to the environment. 7) The differences in temperature at three levels of the cylinder from enviroment were little or negative in control but were greater and positive. and the bottom were higher than top in experimental cylinders. 8) The increases of temperature might be caused by the respiration of the weevil and microorganisms.

  • Use efficiency of top-dressed labelled nitrogen(30% at ear formation stage) ranged 23 to 61%(five fields) with no clear difference between varieties. In high yield soil the use efficiency of top-dressed nitrogen was higher and more than 50% of fertilizer nitrogen in plant seemed to be taken up after ear formation, $^{15}N$ excess was greatest in grain indicating that top-dressed nitrogen translocates easily to grain. The difference of $^{15}N$ excess between grain and straw was greater in Tonsil line than in the local indicating faster nitrogen translocation in Tangil. Percent nitrogen derived from top-dressed nitrogen ranged 14 to 27% in aerial part. Two 3-hill plots per treatment could be enough for $^{15}N$ experiment under field condition if there is specific care.
