TiAIN was deposited onto ISO P2O Cutting Insert Tip substrate by FVAS at the substrate temperature of 80$^{\circ}C$. Cutting and wear test have been performed with TiAIN coated and uncoated WC cutting tools, respectively. Uncoated WC cutting tool has been tested under similar cutting condition for comparison. Cutting force and tool wear of coated and uncoated carbide cutting tools were investigated by cutting length. In cutting test, cutting force of the coated insert tip was larger than the uncoated insert tip by tool wear. Configuration and wear of the coated tool were more stable and resistant than the uncoated. In tool life by the tool wear, the coated cutting tool life was rather longer than the uncoated when tested at high speed (V=250 m/min) than low speed (V=200 m/min), Cutting force, tool wear and life were analysised by tool dynamometer amp(3ch) and oscilloscope.
This study is on the estimation of the tool temperature for different tool nose radius and cutting conditions in turning. The experiment has been performed in different cutting conditions such as cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut for the tool nose radius, 0.4R, 0.8R using SMC workpiece materials. Tool temperature is measured using thermo-couple which is embedded in the insert tip. Using a multiple linear regression method, the tool temperature can be determined as an exponential equation with cutting variables and tool nose diameters for different tool materials. The equations determined in this study show a good correlation for the cutting conditions and can be used for the tool temperature estimation. The result indicates that the tool temperature decreases for ~ncreasing the tool nose radius in general. Also, nose radius hardly influences on the tool temperature compared with cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut.
This is an experimental investigation of the temperature generated in a cutting tool during the machining of stainless steel. The temperature results from the wear of the cutting tool are considered in order to investigate the relation between cause and effect of these factors. This possibility has been tested using a thermocouple technique to record temperature vs. time curves for a variety of cutting conditions. This is done by employing a thermocouple inserted on the tool tip near the major cutting edge. Temperature distributions are calculated using finite element method and compared to the contour maps measured by an optical system. It suggests that the temperature gradients and the tool performance will be dependent on certain facotrs in tool geometry when cutting this material.
This study is on the estimation method of toot temperature for different tool nose radius and cutting conditions in turning. Experimental analysis has been performed in different cutting conditions such as cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut for the tool nose radius, 0.4R, 0.8R using SMC workpiece materials. Tool temperature is measured using a thermo-couple which is embedded in the insert tip. Using multiple linear regression method, the tool temperature can be determined as an exponential equation with cutting variables and tool nose diameters for the different tool materials. The equations determined in this study show a good correlation for the cutting conditions and can be used for a tool temperature estimation technique. The result indicates that the tool temperature decreases for increasing the tool nose radius in general. Also, nose radius hardly influences on the tool temperature compared with cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut. This method will be useful for the estimation of tool life and temperature using limited experimental data for given cutting conditions.

This investigation deals with machining AISI 52100 steel using a carbide-coated tool. The machining cutting force and tool tip temperature are measured online while turning using different cutting parameters. The surface roughness is also measured, but off-line after each cut. The obtained data are analyzed and the influence of the cutting parameters on the machining variables is determined in the form of plots. Regression models obtained from the results are tested using additional experimental data.
While dental clinics still use the ultrasonic scaling/surgery tool for teeth scaling and cleaning the tool's use is expanding steadily to include treatment of damaged teeth and bone tissue. In this study, a handpiece moving system (HMS) was developed to evaluate bone scaling and cutting in the field of dentistry. The HMS, through a scaling test of bone using a scaler tip, it was able to identify surface damage. Additionally, a thermos-graphic camera was used to observe the temperature distribution that occurred during the bone scaling and cutting process. Consequently, we found that increasing the working load increased the amount of surface damage. Changes in temperature distribution occurred slowly and were maintained within safety bounds for 10 minutes. Going forward, we will compare the HMS performance on scaling and cutting with other devices.
The Advantages of hot machining are the reduction of cutting forces, tool wear, and the increase of material removal rates. In this study, a hot-machining characteristics of milling by CBN tip was exprimentely analyzed, and the influence of the surface temperature and the depth of cut on the tool life were investigated. The selection of a heating method for obtaining ideal temperature of metals in machining is important. Faulty heating methods could induce unwanted structural changes in the workpiece and increase the cost. This study uses gas flame heating. It is obtained that tungsten carbide-alloyed has a recrystallisation temperature range of $800-1000^{\circ}C$ which is the high heating temperature that might induce unwanted structural changes. If it is performed at temperatures higher than $800^{\circ}C$ in machining, the possibility of unwanted structural changes and the increased wear of tool can be shown. Consequently, in hot machining of tungsten carbide-alloy, this study has chosen $400^{\circ}C-600^{\circ}C$ because the heating temperature might be appropriate in view of the cost and workpiece considerations. The results of this study experimentally shows a new machining method for tungsten carbide-alloyed that decreases the wear rate of machining tools
The hard turning is a turning operation performed in high strength alloy steels (HRC>30) in order to reach surface roughness close to those obtained in grinding. This is possible because of availability of improved tool materials (polycrystalline cubic boron nitride. PCBN), ad more rigid machine tools. According to many previous work of hard turning mechanism, the maximum temperature of cutting can be raised up to 100$0^{\circ}C$. As the heat generation rate is very high, the thermal displacement of tool holder cannot be negligible. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to analyze effects of high heat generation at CBN tool tip to the thermal displacement of a tool holder in hard turning and finally geometric accuracy. The thermal behavior of a CBN tool holder is investigated by numerical simulation and experiment, and the result shows thermal elongation of microns order is possible during hard turning process.
In VLM-ST process, the fine detailed shape processing process is needed due to the use of thick sheets for layers. The developed process perform the fine detailed shape processing in VLM-ST parts using non-contact hot tool. To predict the heat-affected zone and temperature distribution of VLM-ST parts in detailed shaping, the heat flux from the tool to the surface was calculated for the finite element analysis by modeling the tool as a heat source of radiation. The dominant process parameters such as the radiated heat input, the tool speed, and the gap between the tool tip and the foam sheet (tool height) were considered in the analysis. The results showed a good agreement with the experiments.
The Advantages of hot machining are the reduction of cutting forces, tool wear, and the increase of material removal rates. In this study, a hot-machining using gas flame heating characteristics of milling by CBN tip was analyzed, and the influence of the surface temperature and the depth of cut on the tool life were investigated. The results show that hot machining of tungsten carbide-alloyed is more effective than conventional machining. In addition, some advantages obtained from hot machining, such as decrease of tool wear and cutting force, high surface quality.
